Mayhew seems to go way out on "remarks" lol does he charge the same a or a decent price compared to a "sketch on a blank?"

Having not got too many of either, it makes me wonder!! Sometimes you see remarks and while they're COOL, they don't always seem to have the same "effort" that Mayhew puts in .......

I mean looks like Mayhew even uses copic markers and they look like quality :)

    Anyway, Congrats @Ron C.!!!

I love what Mike does with remarks. He has three "levels" of remarks (Prime, Legendary and Epic)... these are the middle one. I believe his prices are still discounted on his website from his last virtual appearance. At that time, he mentioned that he is less willing to do sketch covers in the near future due to the time and effort involved, but loves doing these remarks. He did a Silver Surfer sketch cover not too long ago that was stunning.... I believe that CGC had it on their website or IG page while commenting that at first it looked as though it was an actual cover.

  2. Incredible Hulk #1 has always been a challenging book to find in high grade (at any price). The CGC Census has one 9.4 and 6 9.2s that have been graded. Since another company has just started a Population Report, I was curious to see what numbers were reported for a few of my CGC books as well as some more impressive ones that I will likely never own again.

The Population report for IH #1 lists 5  :whatthe: 9.8s, 4 9.6s and 2 9.4s.  Why have I not seen ANY of these books listed for sale on secondary auction sites?  I was going to be snarky and end with "asking for a friend"...... but would actually appreciate more insightful responses. I am fully aware of the existing CGC/Voldy/PG# dynamics. Thanks.

    Hello @Ron C.,

Grade, Rarity, and reputable sale prices (ideally we need multiple sales in multiple grades) are taken into consideration when creating scores. Depending on when the set was created, the score may have been lower as the books may be too new to have a secondary market value or are simply lacking in sales. Please note that CGC does not appraise the value of books so we are not able to update scores off just rarity and grade.

    Thank you Matt.

  4. Here is one example (not a sketch cover, but a remark).  When Jim Starlin signed this Epic Illustrated #3, he inadvertently smudged the cover below the signature.  He added a remark to partially cover the smudge, but the grade was still affected..... I believe this is what was mentioned in the notes (I will check).

  5. I don't usually post works in progress, but this is a piece that I am excited to watch as it develops. I had asked Marvel artist Khoi Pham if he was willing to accept a commission of an 11 x 17 colored Watchmen piece and he agreed.

I have been getting occasional updates since January.  Here are the past images:  Concept design, Pencils, Inks and Blacks and Grays.... Color is next.

If you are a Watchmen fan and want to peek in... please feel free.  Thanks and stay safe!

  6. Many artists color over the title when it gets in the way of their sketch covers. Other artists (such as Natali Sanders) somehow sand/scuff off the ink and then paint over the empty space. Grade should not be dropped unless the book is damaged elsewhere in the process (spine, staples, corners, etc.).

Well these were an odyssey consisting of multiple months of ghosting and unreturned Instagram, Twitter and email messages. It was not until both myself and @Adonis got a phone number via the artist creator form and contacted him directly that head way was made.  Adonis was refunded and I kept on him about the books.
    Here they are.....

Great covers! I had temporary custodianship of that Superman cover for a few weeks, but was able to trade that back as partial payment on Felipe's Sinister Six cover. I am just happy that @A-DONIS was made whole on the deal!
