  1. Yeah in that grade I would never take a marker to a book. I was saying in his situation it makes even less sense to not get verification with the intent to sell for eBay fantasy prices.
  2. Punisher was popular from the very start. Fans wanted him back asap. But I agree 100% the writing and evolution is what takes these characters to the next level.
  3. Assuming that book is around 9.4-9.8 range, why on Earth would you get the book signed without getting it Witnessed.
  4. I will never understand varients. If the cover is so beautiful why not get a print out and frame it? I know the whole rarity thing but it still confuses me.
  5. What is that variation of asm 300? Never heard of it before.
  6. origins are a tricky topic though, At one time from my understanding they where almost as valuable as the first appearance. (eta nick talks about it in one of his videos) This has changed significantly in todays market.
  7. where in the link does it explain an example of something related to something else that holds less significance but at the same time holds more value?
  8. I would assume if something has more value then its more important. Isn't that logical? Can you provide an example of something related to something else that holds less significance but at the same time holds more value?
  9. I think this is a huge problem in the current collector market. I was at a show recently and over heard a collector arguing that the 9.8 he wanted to buy was not a true 9.8 because there where some small flaws. Not sure if everyone understands that 9.8 is not 10, maybe because so few people see 10s, even 9.9s and assume that 9.8 is perfect.
  10. That is true. In one of this videos he cracks a gen 1 holder with cream pages that looks better then a gen 2 ow-wps.
  11. Why are some cameos worth more then full appearances and vise versa? The one example I can come up with is Darkseid and Wolverine. Why is Jimmy Olsen 134 more important/valuable then forever people 1 when hulk 180 is worth less then 181? I know Darkseid had more cameos leading up to FP #1 but why is JO #134 considered more important and valuable? especially when his cameo is literally him on a small computer screen. If there is any other examples of stuff like JO #134 I would be interested to see but as of now its the only example of this I can find. Jimmy Olsen #134 Incredible Hulk #180
  12. Thats an excellent observation. I have come across this by watching cougar comics on youtube. He unslabs a lot of books and some that are marked cream look better then off white etc. If the cover is not noticeably tanned and the edges of the pages look decent its more of a personal preference wether you want the label to say white pages or not.
  13. The biggest thing is probably if they Look cool. If the first appearance cover looks good thats also a plus. Books like Hulk 181, ASM 129, WWBN 32 etc. Also the potential of amazing action scenes, that gets the specs blood pumping. long term potential to remain relevant. If the book is scarce in high grade then the prices will sky rocket. I have mostly gone over monetary value but that typically reflects a characters level of hotness these days. But potential movies and tv show speculation is probably the biggest factor on characters becoming hot. Squirrel Girl for the win
  14. Sometimes its just comical. Post your hilarious finds. If you go to his store and look at some of the books and what he grades them at you will be Here are some hilarious examples. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Lantern-76-DC-Comics-1970-Title-Removed-Otherwise-VF-/292103316341?hash=item4402b6e375:g:aoEAAOSwX61ZB81S http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Lantern-Arrow-76-DC-Comics-1970-Neal-Adams-FN-VF-/292086391473?hash=item4401b4a2b1:g:r6wAAOSwtZJY8wZq http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Lantern-76-DC-Comics-1970-Neal-Adams-Green-Arrow-VG-/292080664670?hash=item44015d405e:g:rAUAAOSwnbZYIQto
  15. What if the cover had been white and looked like the back cover?
  16. With that amount of tape I would just leave it. The books still looks great and when you factor in the cost to remove it, grade it and ship it back its best to just leave it as is. With the tape that books 4.0 maybe 4.5
  17. Could be a light crease or multiple small dents that add up. Is the cover black or a color that would make it hard to see small dents and creases? Is it a modern book or a pulpy book?
  18. Not sure if you have read this article but its very interesting. http://www.comicbookdaily.com/collecting-community/by-the-numbers/does-page-color-matter/ For myself personally if the 8.0 looks better then the 7.5 and has bright vivid colors, I would go for the 8.0 all day. If it had been Cream to off-white it would be a harder choice, especially on a bronze book.
  19. Just curious How much surface dirt effects the grade of a book. I am assuming that back cover dirt is not as impactful as front cover dirt. The focus of my question is not small dirt stains and areas but total light surface dirt or ink left from books being stacked on top of each other. Here is an example of the kind of dirt I am talking about. The images can be found on MCS
  20. This seller knew he had made a mistake because he told me, yeah my secretary made the error. After that I just told him thanks for the reply and let it go. I can understand that people would jump the gun and assume I am trying to snatch the book from the buyer. It's more out of curiosity then to screw the buyer. I should of explained the situation better. Also not that it's important but I already have 5 copies of this book from VG to NM so I'm not thirsty for the book either.
  21. I did not know there where so many saints on the boards. This listing hit a total of 2 views when I got to it, I checked on watch count. I'm sure anyone here who would see a listing like this would instant buy and not send messages. There are also times that sellers have other books that they will put up and instead of them going to auction I am able to buy them for the sellers insane prices. I just want to make clear that all I asked the seller was if the sale was real. I'm sure we have all seen sales like this and shortly after see the same book re listed by the same seller. Let's all be realistic here instead of pulling out the pitch forks.
  22. Just wanted to know if the sale was real and not some mistake made by the seller, I have seen things like that before and sometimes the seller re list the book. This seller decided to let it go but sometimes thats not the case. I have been able to get deals from seller that have done things like this before, This is the reason why I contacted him. When books sell for 25 even up to 40% off FMV I will not contact the seller because its probably a real sale.
  23. Giant size book grading I recently purchased a Silver Surfer #1 on eBay in a CGC 6.0 I have a few annuals and giant size books but all of them are in low grade and not key issues so I payed little attention to grading them. I have many silver age books in the 4.0-6.0 range and after receiving my SS 1 I am not quite sure about the grade It's in. I searched around and the only thing I can find is that Giant size books or square cut books seem to be graded differently then a regular stapled comic, due to the way they are produced. If any one on the boards could clear this up and explain how Giant Size books are graded I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if some one could look at my book and let me know if it looks over graded or it's just me. Here is the front and back, I tried to get good pictures of it but it's hard due to the size of the slab.
