  1. I wonder how often this kind of thing happens.
  2. I get the shipping to them etc and trust the process. Just looking for an estimated time frame for people who have used this process before.
  3. DC aint any better. The big golden age keys are next to impossible. Forget Action 1 or Tec 27 those where always crazy both in scarcity and price, but even books like batman 1 or all star 8 in any grade are out of reach for most now. Even big silver keys like showcase 4 (my unobtainable grail ) have now reached a point where I have actually considered giving up the dream at this point as restored is not an option for me. I though I was nuts years ago paying multiples of guide for certain hard to find books but compared to today I was a cheapskate. It blows my mind what people are willing to pay for certain common books and ultra low grades these days. The real question for long time collectors right now is, will this continue for years to come? or is there a ceiling and if so where is it?
  4. I recently bought a book using Heritage Auctions Archive via there make an offer program. I received a response from heritage that the buyer accepted my offer and I payed the invoice. It has been 4 days since I paid and received a confirmation of payment email stating that it could take around 10 days. Has anyone used this service before? If so, how long does it usually takes to receive the book from time of payment?
  5. What happens if a 9.6 or even 9.8 Tec 27 shows up? It's a long shot but possible. If so and no higher Action 1 by that time surly it would surpass the value of the current 9.0 Action 1 copy that sold for 3.2 million. Then again there's always the mile high copy of action 1 out there that could be in the 9.6-9.8 range. Would be scary if that monster came out for sale
  6. I keep kicking myself in the head for being stingy back in 08 and passing on a 3.0 copy because it was 350$ more then I wanted to pay. R.I.P
  7. The one key I dream of in any grade congrats!
  8. Bought a Batman 251 from Anthony and could not be happier. The price was great and the book was shipped out lightning fast. Thanks again Anthony.
  9. These are the reasons why as a collector I stick with 9.6 on moderns. Yes 9.8 is the way to go for investment purposes but I rather get double the books for the money. Plus if you are picky and patient you will come across 9.6s that look identical to 9.8s
  10. If the book is not 10.0 I feel some sort of notes should be giving to determine why its not perfect. A quick example like "One nanometer tear on left edge" Would be nice to know.
  11. This is very weird, what holder is the book in? It looks like a cut inner well. Then the video goes on to say that the owner bought it 30 years ago
  12. Just came across this gem while browsing sold books. someone must be http://www.ebay.com/itm/Werewolf-by-Night-32-1ST-APP-OF-MOON-KNIGHT-Aug-1975-Marvel-/182742347617?epid=85397024&hash=item2a8c4aef61%3Ag%3AHB0AAOSwDQJZqIZf&nma=true&si=%2BaSUAUhIXLhemEuBcnxAMWxzz48%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  13. I know its been mentioned before in other threads, but the number of key books out there is way higher then some are lead to believe. One of the biggest problems many new collectors and speculators don't realize is that even the key books are not as rare as they think. Look at any key book besides mega key gold age and early silver age books. Anytime rumors of a movie or TV show comes up the census goes nuts with copies of what ever character is going to be hot. hulk 181, ASM 129 have more then doubled there total census counts in the last few years with no sign of stopping. Villain keys are even worse, they never maintain there momentum long term, unless of course they are staples of the hobby. Joker, dr doom, green goblin etc.. I have lost count how many villain character books have gone from fire to ice within weeks, sometimes days after the movie or show is over. I am still amazed that this trend continues with the thousands of people who have been burned by scenarios like this. Many novice and even some savvy collectors who don't check census data are going to slowly realize one day how many of these "rare" books are actually out there. Not to mention the thousands of raw copies out there that never get slabbed.
  14. Agree with both points here. Any true collector who has been collecting before the movie hype will agree that even the big keys are way up in the stratosphere these days. The hobby has become popular among investors and hype artists. Almost seems like a perfect storm is brewing. Boomers getting ready to unload, movie hype starts to calms down (after infinity war part 2 most likely), stock market begins to drop... ok Im reaching now but its possible. As the joker once said
  15. No matter the lighting a book in Mylar will always look better then it being in a slab. Less distance between the material and the book plus no multiple layers like you have with a slab. I still love slabs though
  16. 25 here, great poll descriptions. Next poll could be when did you start collecting. I bought my first book when I was 13.
  17. Auction wise not sure but BIN is a different story. Most of the BIN listings of any book on eBay are somewhat over FMV. Some are laughably over priced some slightly. If they weren't someone would buy it. All it takes to break that current over priced BIN barrier is some news relating to said book. With AF 15 at this point I don't know what else could raise the price further. He's part of the MCU now. I think the current comic market insanity is based on a lot of factors but if I had to narrow it down to 3 main reasons in order of importance it would be. 1.Economy is doing great, lots of money flying around. 2.Movie/TV Hype (leads my third point) 3. Many obscure characters that might get their big break.
  18. Not trying to justify deadbeat bidders but there are different reasons why this happens. Some people place max bids way higher then they are willing to pay, which is irresponsible and completely there fault but at the time it makes sense. This creates the situation "wow someone was willing to pay that much...I think I over paid now" Could be the last minute bidder in a rush who entered the wrong amount. 150 dollars instead of 15 and the item ends for 25. Now the buyer is stuck paying more then they wanted. (This actually happened to me, luckily the item sold for a relatively fair price.) Usually its the classic instant buyers remorse, which could be based on over max bidding or just last minute frustration from being outbid. The problem is that there's no way of knowing what the buyer did and if they made an error or just wasting your time. Its 100% the bidders responsibility and no matter the excuse they are at fault. It really sucks that eBay has become a buyers paradise and this example along with many other reasons is why I choose to sell my books elsewhere these days.
  19. I have been on the forums for awhile now and Im starting to think that Greggy has a printing press. All joking aside great books as usual
  20. I used photo bucket for years but in the last few it has been going downhill. Between the annoying downtimes and weird loading issues I completely abandoned it about a year ago. When sites like imgur are free and work most of the time there is no point in dealing with PB anymore.
  21. As the hobby grows this type of thing seems to be happening more frequently. Its a damn shame. Hope you can find the book.
  22. Yes, that has the new envelope design. You can see the faint white line around the sides of the book. If you see that your in the clear
