  1. I may be seeing things, or it might be the low res pic, but what's the cover price on the IF 14?
  2. Btw...here's a peek at the animated John Carter stuff by Bob Clampett... Thanks, that was great. Never saw it before
  3. Back in the late 90's in Baltimore, the Spidey's were exceedingly common. You could find at least one in almost every store in the area. By 1999, I had to stop myself from buying them unless they were in high grade. Not as common as Eternals 1 or 2, mind you, but common.
  4. My experience was pretty different. I found my Kid Colt 205 among my first 80-90 variants for 2 dollars and if I remember correctly I found my WWT 15 at around the mid-point of my journey also for 2 bucks. The hunt is completely idiosyncratic when you get to the hardest 30 or so. I'm not sure, but I believe my last two were Sgt Fury 133 and MTA 29
  5. I knew about the SME 4. I assumed the ASM 104 was relatively easy just because of the print run. Good to know.
  6. I don't even know what's tough and what's not, any longer. The FF 124 was always a challenge for me.
  7. I'm not really sure what's going on, but I've been tripping over some pretty nice pf covers the last view weeks. From Chicago. In a 2 dollar box (and I don't care about the date, it's a Marvel, and it's a picture frame, even though it came out later): Courtesy of 143ksk ( I think he found this dirt cheap). And I traded for this (damn nut-sack crease really shows up in the scan-almost invisible in normal lighting)
  8. From the Boston show last weekend. Both were absolute bargains. [/img]
  9. Just curious - why did you haggle this down? And again - WHY did you haggle this down? Man, can you people not read? "the seller was content selling a volume of books at a discount of his asking price" Brad bought a lot of books for .25 each, instead of .50. This is just not a big freakin' deal except for the hypocrites here. If you were buying a short box, and the seller wanted .50 each and you wanted .25, are you going to tell me you would not haggle? Get over yourselves and stop whining. And yes, I do hope I come across a ragged copy of Action 1 at a garage sale for $5. I'd keep it, never sell it, and sleep peacefully at night, knowing I didn't flip it.
  10. That's a pretty cool find !! That is absolutely wild--have never seen that in 40 years of collection. My guess is this is missing the W because it's pre-direct version. Marvel may have sold them as direct copies at a reduced rate but I'm fairly certain they did not have specific versions for direct channels. Makes you wonder how many of the early treasuries were sold this way.
  11. The 1975 movie is a favorite of mine, and there's a shocking number of other movies from the mid-70s that have production values marginally better than a crappy network TV show. I just remember being thrilled as a 11 year old to see the character on film. That said, I've been keeping myself from watching the movie out of fear of destroying a childhood memory.
  12. I'll take that bet, scrub. Bring it. Oh, Chip, he's hustling you. Really. You'll lose. Somebody knows what I did in my third career after I sold Moondog's... Man, you shouldn't have fessed up, Gary. Hustle him.
  13. Something so nostalgic about Space Invaders though. Maybe its just being there at the dawn of Pong on my black & white to the little Mattel handheld football game to the spawning of these uprights pushing out pinball. My next fav would be Asteroids. METEOR! FTFY! There is a classic arcade place 45 minutes from me; I went twice and then they opened one much closer and near a decent LCS. I was going once a week for a while. the further one had Punch Out but the closer one did not. I would do some Asteroids, Pac-man, Space Invaders, Defender and maybe one or two others. And some pinball but I never found a great machine (I want Captain Fantastic Elton John pinball above all others, then Sinbad.) I would probably have kept going but the buttons on Defender wouldn't work very well and were repaired too infrequently for me. I would enjoy getting good at that game again but it is impossible if certain buttons don't fire immediately. I could still do some Crazy Climber, Tutkamen, etc. though at the drop of a hat. I could see my shop morphing into an arcade. Oh that would be so nuts. Be careful--a lot of municipalities still have VERY archaic laws about having video and pinball games, and having to purchase licenses if you are accepting payment. If you look around, you'll see stamps and stickers on many old machines. More than one idealistic pinball or video enthusiast has been nailed with fines.
  14. Ah, good times, courtesy of one of the biggest losers to cross the board's path. And remember, I believe this thread had dozens of posts removed, also. Some vintage anti-american BS from Mr. Levine, maybe some slandering of Al Stoltz, and more goodies (or maybe these were in another gem from Mr. Levine). Good times, indeed.
  15. This is one of the most embarassing things I've had to do in my life (which, I suppose, means I've had a pretty good life). After, reading joey's posts, I went back to double-check the SME to make sure it was not the same copy he looked at. Lo and behold, it had a fairly significant back cover flaw that I missed in my rush to get back to my booth. I checked it multiple times before buying it, but somehow missed this. So, for the sake of maintaining an accurate knowledge base, be assured that this copy is not as nice as it appears. Sorry for the excitement. That said, here are the rest of the pf's I picked up from the same dealer, all of which ARE as nice as they appear.
  16. Back cover is exceptional. The front has the tiniest of nicks along the right edge which my deteriorating eyes missed, but Greggy's caught. I'm happy to take sloppy seconds on this copy. Nicer than any I've come across
  17. Part of my late Emerald City pf pick-ups. Not perfect, but way better than I ever expected to find raw for this issue.
  18. My wife's still pissed at me for saving our 26" Phillips instead of dumping it. If you're into restoring dedicated video game cabinets, appropriate CRT and vector monitors are getting kinda tough to find.
  19. Thanks, Steve, Here are some more Lucey covers from the same collection.
  20. I've essentially taken a 1 year hiatus from the boards--it's amazing how much more productive my life became. For better or worse, I fell off the wagon after the Baltimore show, where I came across some Harry Lucey covers I had long given up on ever finding in even mid-grade. This run of Peps seems to be impossible to find without water stains, foxing, etc. Just impossible. Needless to say, I'm pretty thrilled. Here's the books that responsible for my return.
  21. Here's another unauthorized Star Wars Archie/Sabrina cover. Pretty amazing what publishers used to be able to get away with.
  22. That is just too cool. Never saw this before. Thanks for re-posting. Paul
