  1. i can barley read that story it's so heart breaking, especially if you've ever cared for a parent that's de-compensating right before your very eyes . Maybe Steve Ditko had it right. Don't talk to anyone, ever. There is simply no way to tell what is/has gone on. He said, she said, all with Lee's mental faculties, for the most part, having left him. What a sad ending.
  2. I can say this to that: I bought a Time Traveler Micronaut in some kinda CGC-kinda company graded case still in the package. I cracked it out of it's grading company case and tore it out of the package and started to play with it. It immediately snapped at the hip. For a second a felt kinda stupid then just posted the packaging in my closet so I see it everyday and I love it.
  3. I"m sorry, what does "I won't touch vintage Joes on the card" mean? Card is slang for packaging, right? I will say this: at conventions just looking at the loose toys in the big clear plastic box divided in little compartments for the loose toys IS IN NO WAY AS EXCITING as looking at the boxes. Which I guess is just a lesson in life itself.
  4. i 'm not a toy guy however i find this thread fascinating. serious question: what's more important the box or the toy? Please don't say "both" so to insure that let me restate the question. You can have only one, which do you take: Mint condition G.I. Joe box or Mint condition G.I. Joe that came in box listed above?
  5. My wife is a social worker. She deals with women forced from their homes for hellish reasons with nothing. One shoplifted food for one of her children. because they were literally starving to death. I just see Mr. A. throwing an all black playing card at this poor woman screaming "GUILTY" at her as he shoves her to her death off a high rise building. Let's leave it. It sounds as if you pick and choose what you like from Objectivism, not accepting things you disagree with. I would't think that would make you an Objectivist just a free thinking person who does indeed think for themselves just as I like things from the right but am not GOP and like things from the left and sure as mess aint a (the other party) I've demolished this thread enough. So if you would like to continue in PM that would be fine or you should have the last word here since I had the first words.
  6. that certainly puts some context into things. thanks
  7. fair enough. Why did Ayn except Social Security in her later years? Is that not a hand out? Aren't there members in american politics today that idolize Rand and her silly belief system who want to do away with SS because, (as they reason) it's a government hand out?? Steve's books should sell on their own merit enough for Snyder ( I really though he was a he, but if you say so) to not beg for money? Yes, it's begging. So obviously his books DON'T sell and he's not the creator he believes himself to be that can care for himself. What about the New York case worker that found him dead? So he had a case worker paid for by, yup, probably New York tax payers. Steve being cared for by others. I've met objectivists before. Never liked a one of em. Maybe you would be an exception. One was a grown adult man at the supermarket bagging groceries. He would never should the F up about objectivism so one day I told him "Shouldn't you be a Superman not a bag boy? He never spoke to me again. But if it works for you fine. And a friendly discussion is better. Watched your video. You're quoting Angelina Jolie? And that's a good thing? Do you know Angelina Jolie? I've worked 3 decades in Hollywood doing lighting for all manner of projects. I've worked with Jolie numerous times. From Herb Ritts photo shoots when she was no one (with her father, Jon Voit ,I beleive) to the megalomaniac she is today. But's that'a a good thing to be? Just taken' care of yourself! She really had to work hard to get where she is today! Nothing was given to her! It's just so laughable. Since I can't get political here, perhaps I can slip this by: People: If you're trying to get people behind your cause STOP quoting HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES. Ellen DeGeneres IS Donald Trump. They are the same! They're just selling you what you already want to buy. Like Objectivism. Or The right Or the Left. Sorry everyone. Mod delete if you feel the need.
  8. I guess not the stealing component of your question I thought of, just knocking stuff about as only a gigantic home made Optimus Prime could. If cosplays never venture into the comic selling area, than yeah it's a moot. Thanks for your answer. But now I've got another thought, the bathroom floors must be flooded with pee-pee as I'm guessing proper urinating execution is difficult if you're all dressed up in Legos X-Wing fighter. Don't even want to think about going a big number 2.
  9. Yes, it's my question. Even added an extra question mark at the end of the sentence for those with extra needs.
  10. In the year 2043 all will be revealed.
  11. nope. no displaying. straight to the bank vault. What's there to look at? It's entombed in plastic. I really only have about 7 or 8 pricey ones in CGC cases at the bank. The rest of my collecting is Raw in Mylites 4 or whatever in my closet. I got a nice xmen run 94 - 150 raw in the closet. Xmen 94, 95 and 101 or worth what in 9.2 or 9.6 couple hundred? Hell everyone knows xmen are valuable even dummy crooks so I guess that'll get taken.
  12. The pure cosplay photo thread of the NYCC got me thinking. DO you as a dealer worry as you see someone dressed as a giant unwieldy Transformer with his family of 4 dressed as baby transformers, one is covered in fake blood because he was ostensibly the "bloody birthed transformer" from Transformers Part 61 stumble to your booth and ask to see this and that and the father Transformer doesn't even have hands but some kind of Tranformer claws??
  13. but she took Social Security in her older years just fine as Steve Ditko's man Robin Snyder resorted to online begging to make and get SD stuff out there. Isn't Objectivism every person cares for themselves and hand outs are not needed as objectivists are "Supermen?" Always wondered about this. Should have asked Steve.
  14. I wonder where he is now? Asking Ayn Rand for her autograph? Getting is a fistfight with Jack Kirby or saying to himself, "well, mess I was wrong about everything."
  15. but some pull out of their head (based on no information what so ever ) that He was being "polite" in returning a letter sent to him as this was of his generation. Based on nothing.
  16. It very well could have been. I expressed concern for his health as he has missed my last two letter. Nobody knows Ditko. I really never brought up my corresponding with him as there is a deeply rooted camp here thinking "you're bothering him" (as if they know what his desires are/were) I told his niece point blank that i was writing him and asked her if he enjoyed corresponding with people. She said he loves getting and answering letters but he's a bit of a "difficult presonality" and if that's gonna bother you don't write. She said he would love to say "politically charged things around the dinner table then sit back and enjoy the sparks fly."
  17. this is where i sent mine: Steve Ditko 1650 Broadway Ste 715 New York, NY 10019-6833 the last letter I wrote him was on 6/22/2018. Perhaps the very day he died.
  18. That's impossible. Every single time I wrote him, he wrote back. We all know his disposition and that's just the way he is/was. I think I have about 2 letters out of about 20 where he seems like a super friendly guy other then that it was Super Angry Man. I'm curious as to what you wrote? And I wrote the full spectrum of letters: questions about Objectivism, dumb questions about a contractor I had working at the house, just really random, often surreal nonsensical, kinda stuff. Always got a letter back. I can say I never asked about SM or SL or Marvel or the Marvel Movies or asked for an autograph (which you would get anyway with his return letter. Duh!) it was more like, "This contractor working at my house today says he met God at the liquor store down the street and God told him to buy a lottery ticket. He's offered me the lottery ticket but the guy just isn't doing the work here I hired him to do. What should I do?" BAM 5 days letter I get a letter with him telling me what I should do and how idiotic I was. No actually I believe he was super friendly guy with this letter. have to check. Seriously. I got mess tons of letters like that if someone ever gets a hold of all the letters SD received and puts out a book called "From the desk of Steve: they're gonna have a field day with my letters.
  19. i told people repeatedly for about a year here that if you write Steve Ditko a letter you will 100% get a response. I bought an AF15 for a boat load of money and wrote SD asking him if it was a "wise investment." The return letter I got from him berating me putting me on full blast at what an insufficiently_thoughtful_person I am is classic and absolutely hilarious as only a grumpy angry SD can be. No I'm not gonna post it. Don't have a scanner and don't care if someone believes me or not. It's in the bank safe deposit box with the AF15. Both the letter and book will be for sale in about 25 years. You'll see it then. Unless I die and then the my heir will sell it quicker then a New York minute probably to the LCS down the street even though I'v left detailed instructions on it's sale and NOT TO SELL IT THE LOCAL COMIC SHOP. And that's where you'll probably find it.
  20. what does he charge? I don't feel like reading this whole thing. thanks.
  21. I'm bored so for my entertainment maybe we can switch this up. Anybody ever see an artist/writer be gracious as can be with a fan who's rude as a turd? Demanding, cutting inline, telling them how to write/draw. I gotta go to a dinner party with the wife tonight and I'm dreading it. Need some laughs.
  22. I'll be honest here. I don't know much about Neal Adams except for the work he has done and I'm no pro at that either.. Has he got the reputation as a donkey? The only interaction I ever had with him is the one I wrote of above. Very odd to yell at someone simply minding their own business who happens to be walking by.
  23. I mean if that's what you're into, I can go on. The burger was beyond greasy. What struck me was all the grease and condiments were dripping onto the piece of art he was working on. Like I said I just kept trucking. Didn't really want to engage but I wonder about that commission he was doing, how he got the mustard, ketchup and pickles off it.
  24. I’m gonna side with the OP on this one. It’s easy to say a newcomer here doesn’t know how to grade. However these books were in climate controlled storage in acid free bags and boards in a stress free environment. It all equals 9.8s for me whenever things get stressful at my house with the mother in law, I immediately move my comics and I believe it helps with getting 9.8s If a comic isn’t 9.8 it’s sh*t. Plain and simple. OP you were robbed. Have you tried PGX? Don’t settle for 8.0s for the simple fact that these comics WERE 9.8s! I believe CGC and the losers here are purposely devaluing your comics so you’ll sell em on the cheap. Don’t fall for this scam. This hobby is ruthless .
