  1. It was 1985. I can't remember yesterday. Had gone up to Radio City Music Hall to see Disney's Return To Oz and stopped by his shop. Along with a Carnival of Souls Mexican One-sheet and some US lobby cards also got some cool Phantasm stuff, too. Two years later moved to Los Angels and worked on Phantasm 2 and promptly got rid of all my Phantasm memorabilia ASAP because the experience of working on P2, was, I dunno how to describe it.... Heck did Shout Factory find the gnarliest, dirtiest print to strike a transfer from? LOL
  2. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/16/obituaries/jerry-ohlinger-dead.html I remember making the drive from Virginia in 1985 because he found some rare Carnival of Souls lobby cards for me. What a store. Not sure they have shops like this anymore in bigger cities cause of the rent. Same with Eric Cadien of HollyWood Book and Poster in Los Angeles.
  3. And the OP didn't even bother to thank those who took the time and trouble to respond to the thread. It all some think about. Money. But of course has no problem hitting up the very experienced folks here for their knowledge at no cost to him/her. Anyways, like others have said here, no money to be made in Stan Lee signatures at this time. I recommend you buy up all the Steve Ditko signatures as they're flying under the radar now and there's serious money to be made.
  4. everybodie's gettin' in on the bandwagon: Looks like Gwyneth Paltrow had a link to a $600 dress her company makes in her instagram "tribute" to Lee
  5. I met Stan Lee at Hardees once in Coulpepper, Virginia and he had to borrow $9.00 from me so he could get a burger and fries. Since 9$ was all I had he could only get water and not a Pepsi. He got very angry and stormed out. He peeled out in his car out of the parking lot and hit a city bus that was full of elderly people going to play bingo at the local indian casino. I ran out to see if he and the bus full or older people were ok. Everybody was so we smoked a fatty and chilled.
  6. and thoughts on the 7.0 that went for 114K? For a while it was ahead of the 7.5 $-wise because (I believe) it had a nicer cover and that's what is important in today's entombed-comic-post-it-on-facebook/instagram days! https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/amazing-fantasy-15-marvel-1962-cgc-fn-vf-70-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7192-91049.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 There's an 8.0 coming up on CL or CC, also. Man are there a lot high grade of AF15s out there.
  7. I would've had SL signed the book, "Be Sure to Check GPA before selling!"
  8. I actually don't have a problem with this item because it's a great message for the kids.
  9. Honestly. I guess the daughter is trying to get Dirtman (nothing revealed about origin of Dirtman) into the MCU right now. Who was around here that said this is all just one big gross pile?
  10. Are people actually buying SL sig now, or is it just an influx of people asking a price for SL sig?
  11. well Hell then, I guess just look at the cover anymore
  12. let the flood gate opens. it's about to get really, really pathetic.
  13. There's 250,000 people here on the boards to interact with, could you interact with someone else please.
  14. I'd like to hear the opinion on a collector and/or investor that bought a SL signature yesterday or today.
  15. Maybe the majority of us were wrong and the zillions of SL signatures out there don’t matter and prices will phenomenally spike upwards forever. I didn’t think that would happen (prices shoot up forever) but there was always a small nagging thought that it was entirely possible they would
  16. I traveled to Transylvania a couple of months ago so I decided to read Dracula. I’ve made it about 60% through and I’m losing interest. Don’t think I’m gonna finish it. Anybody read it? Do they travel back to Transylvania once Dracula comes to London?
  17. I’m a little slow: did this J & J Collectables place halt SL signature sales out of respect or they realized that after his death they could charge more and had to halt sales to reprice everything higher?
  18. You’re assuming your heirs want it and care about what you cared about. If they do, great! Otherwise it’s boxes of junk they gotta lug around.
  19. I know that many people around here are of the school-of-thought, "After I die, I'll be dead why not do what I want while I'm alive and collect enough junk to fill twenty country barns?! Let someone else deal with it once I'm dead." I'm kinda the opposite and don't want someone burdened with having to dispose of my collection once I've left the CGC boards for good. Keep it to a minimum. Short and sweet. Quality over quantity. You ever had to deal with someone's estate? How about a hoarder's estate? Sure everyone knows X-Men #1 is money but now how about the other 400 long boxes worth of stuff?
  20. that's it? damn. didn't say I was an accomplished grader, just saying it's good to get as much info as possible. There's gotta be more grader's notes than that!
  21. gotta get grader's notes to answer that question. it's not intelligent to look at front cover only to gauge a proper grade. but heck, it seems like that's what collecting is coming to these days anyways: 1. look at front cover entombed in plastic. 2. Grade comic.
  22. i got rid of ST110 cause of the PPP cover. Boo!
  23. I didn't make a buck out of calling some fat woman "Donut Girl," Stan Lee did. Good/Bad is subjective hence the polite discussion wherein the first words of the thread refer to Lee as a master, meaning I think very highly of him. You let us know at what date it's ok to discuss Stan Lee's full breadth of a public work and we'll continue at that time.
