  1. Sometimes the image thumbnail doesn't show up but the image is there if you click the listing. Sometimes titles will have keywords entered but the search bar doesn't grab the item for some reason. It is visible only if you go to the forthcoming auction page. I kind of get a kick out of the anticipation.
  2. shill bidding is the cost of doing business for having a working search button I suppose.
  3. What do you reckon that Larkin cover would be worth in 2020 (not a typo).
  4. I think so too. They are "one and done" pieces for me and I am sure many others, so stretching would be worth it. All academic at this point.
  5. Ha, this is most certainly a fishing expedition ;) Lack of replies is telling, not much floating in the marketplace and those holding are clearly smart in not posting lest they want an inbox of inquiries. I remember a few years back someone posted a load of Elmore interiors to the Dragonlance modules on CAF. They were pretty quickly removed (and sold I am told to The Whale). I think for many who grew up in the 70s and 80s these early, simpler module and rulebook pieces have tremendous nostalgia. Awesome as they are, peak awesome, for me, is the Dragonlance work by Elmore. Willingham's particular black and white interiors were also quite amazing.
  6. Yeah I am considering my first HA consignment which will definitely bring on the price correction.
  7. I always valued these Famous Funnies less than the Warren mags, but apparently not. Reading this Magazine thread may have biased me here ;) I sold mine last year and barely recovered my costs.
  8. Thought I would bump this for the 20k sale of the FF 211 on heritage yesterday. I think this piece was on eBay for less than this for some time, perhaps by a boardie. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/science-fiction/famous-funnies-211-signature-series-frank-frazetta-eastern-color-1954-cgc-vf-nm-90-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7266-95049.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyTrackedLots-101116
  9. And this is why people use auction houses....holy cow it keeps going and going
  10. DHL from China in 2-3 days. I just paid 1300 in shipping for a Peter Lyon sword from Weta in New Zealand. I was 10k in already so what can you do (besides not pre-order anything).
  11. I wonder if the circle won't come full circle and people will get back to t1:6 statues again. I mean, who needs a 1:3 or 1:2 scale bust of Sauron in their house??
  12. Reformed toy collector here as well. Condition driven hobbies are a recipe for disaster for my personality. New in Box toys have worries about tape yellowing and drying and carded figs have bubble issues. Vintage Joes have internal issues with bands failing and the arms and legs falling off. Sold my sealed Kenner Alien for the same reason. The peculiarities of OA condition are a dream in comparison. But statue collectors are among the worst. There is no third party grading (yet and thankfully) but those people will microscope every statue for some visible flaw to complain about. Compare that to the miniature gaming hobbyist where a shoddy product is expected (cough, Forge World, cough) where spending 4 figures on a piece with air bubbles, warping, and general poor QC is shrugged off as part of the fun. .
  13. I cashed out of most statues several years ago. I hop onto the old boards occasionally just to see what is up. The hobby seems sort of dead to me. How many of the same characters can these places possibly make? The entire hobby seems to have gone more high end as you note. Sideshow ruled the day, then these new start-ups studios started appearing where bigger is always better. My last purchase was the Uman Witchking, for which they delivered a 900 dollar shipping fee on a 1290 dollar statue. Its just too big. The boxes (yes multiple) take up so much room I cannot imagine how anyone with a large collection stands the clutter.
  14. Glad I am not the only one. The more I read, the angrier I get here. The other unknown is if Item A sold at a 3k loss can offset Item B sold at a 3k profit in the same tax year. I assume so, but the law changes seem brutally punitive in other respects so who knows. I do know that I need an new accountant.
  15. I have to say that the online articles on this are rather short on details. I know, I know - consult your tax accountant. But everything I am reading makes it seem like there is no way to deduct your cost basis for any hobby income post 2018. I assume these articles are thinking of hobbies in a very general way, and expenses are things like gas/mileage, electricity to rung your pottery wheel, etc. I am just not seeing how you justify your cost to acquire the items you have sold. I suppose if you don't get the 1099-K you can do the math in your head and report whatever is left on your Other Income line. But if you get a 1099-K, that is the questions, how to report the cost basis of the items you sold.
  16. Payment must be split evenly across (how many payment platforms are there now?) at the rate of 599 dollars.
  17. So I just hopped onto Ebay to find my current sales tally for the year and... I cannot find it. 90 days is what they want to service. Surely they have the data for the 1099. Why is it so hard eBay?
  18. Don't worry, even if you saved the receipts they are made from that heat sensitive paper/ink that fades over time anyway...
  19. thank you for clarifying, this was my understanding.
  20. I do wonder what percent of art framed by Michaels is worth less than the frame cost. I suspect the number is higher than you'd think (as someone who has a lot I frame there, I see what others bring in).
  21. I thought it was 20k AND 200 transactions not OR
  22. "However, if the frame is not of a value considered normal for the work of art, it will have to be classified separately under its applicable provision and may be dutiable. These original works of art, whether ancient or modern, must be executed entirely by hand." Interesting aside here. So your Mona Lisa in a Michaels frame may be subject to duty as is your gold gilded frame on your 10 dollar lithograph.
  23. I heard the D&D guy is into GI Joe now too... kidding. The psychology of this is fun to think about - hey gents, how badly do we want to punish each other here.
  24. That's actually quite a clear explanation on Dauterman's website. My 2 cents is that APs are one of the biggest scams running that collectors turn a blind eye to when it comes to collectibles that are not one of a kind. It seem most are simply overstock prints that are "released" after the numbered run sells through and all returns and exchanges have been dealt with. This is fine, but the term proof here is unfortunate.
