  1. Because they are virtually impossible to find in any condition?
  2. Exactly. CGC gives a Blue 9.8 grade to some freakshow book with printer's creases all over it (defending it with the old "Manufacturing Defect" excuse), then screams bloody murder when a color is printed differently. Does that make sense to anyone?
  3. Definitely don't send those back, or they'll be transformed into Qualified in the blink of an eye.
  4. I agree, and think this is one of the dumbest and most short-sighted decisions by CGC, especially as it's one of those grandfather'd rules, whereby dealers protect older "blue label" variants, while not having to watch the "general public" sell off newer ones for big bucks. It's also not a coincidence that right after those USM cover variations sold for HUGE $$$, that suddenly CGC changed gears and started giving them green labels. Nah.. dealers don't run CGC.
  5. I know, I know, but when it comes to comics, I can be such a lazy bum.
  6. To keep the fires burning, here are a few more I recently got in:
  7. Kudos to greggy for a nice stack of esoteric Marvel Picture Frame books.
  8. Kudos to Nikos, one of the best guys on the board, for personally handling a no-Paypal, US-only transaction, just so I could snag some more great books cheap!!! Take a bow sir.
  9. Does anyone else get a little sick looking at this guy's auctions?
  10. Uh oh, Scottish is buying comics again - can the end be far?
  11. In my experience, ASM 171 is by far the most common of the ASM 35-centers, and would definitely be the one to show up in HG. I think it was the first 35-cent variant I ever found, and I keep seeing them with regularity. ASM 169 and 173 are the hardest to locate, in my opinion.
  12. Nevermind, I found his Registry Set: Amazing Spider-Man 169 35 Cent Price Variant 8.5 Amazing Spider-Man 170 35 Cent Price Variant 9.0 Amazing Spider-Man 171 35 Cent Price Variant 6.5 Amazing Spider-Man 172 35 Cent Price Variant 6.0 Amazing Spider-Man 173 35 Cent Price Variant 8.0 So he has 2 of 5 highest graded, and extremely close on a 3rd.
  13. Well stated, but there are actually five 35-centers, with the 173 in CGC 8.5 highest grade as well. I also believe that most (all?) of these "highest graded" copies came from that Original Owner set 4gemworks paid through the nose for, so if you take those out of the equation... P.S. Does anyone have a link to the post of the CGC grades he got back?
  14. I think it's just plain volume - I can't imagine all the crepe flowing through their greedy little hands.
  15. I think you can be sure they're 30-cent copies, and if true NM/CGC NM copies of some of the ASM 35-centers come up for sale, I'd call VISA and extend your credit limit.
  16. Well, maybe he's open to trading me some ASM 169's for some 171's, then.
  17. I have a few 170's, and I may just be selling a few 35-centers on the forums/EBay real soon.
  18. I don't think any of my dupes would qualify at this level. 35-centers are tough, let alone high-grade.
