CLOSED at 30% Off: Eight Barks Four Colors

Four Color #147 Donald Duck in Volcano Valley. Presents as nicely or better than many FN to FN- solds on HA but has a loose cf so we need to cap it a bit short of its overall appearance otherwise. Interestingly, HA has two raw sales in FN- in May 2022, at $186 and $222 (from the pix, the $186 copy was nicer). $175 here -

Four Color #199 Donald Duck in Sheriff of Bullet Valley. Barks draws himself on a wanted poster in this classic tale. Solid VG. Best comp I have on HA after looking at pix of many solds there and in eBay is a July 2021 raw VG- at $120. $150 here -

Four Color #275 Donald Duck in Ancient Persia. Again, my VG+ to VGFN. Closest comp copy is HA in Oct 2021 with a raw graded FN- by them going for $114. Not sure it’s any nicer, just different flaws, as it’s spine was a little cleaner as color breaks go but it had a lower right front cover stain and small chip off back cover. This one’s got a little more overall wear but not the glaring flaws. Kenneth Glastetter wrote his name atop this one once upon a time. $100 -

Four Color #291 Donald Duck in The Magic Hourglass. My buddy John, whom I traded with to acquire these books, had this at VG/FN. While I can see how he got there, and he’s generally a tight grader, I still lean VG+ here. A cgc 4.0 listed on eBay via MCS at $145 just went best offer accepted. Raw but clearly nicer copy here. Let’s go $125 -

Four Color #318 Donald Duck in No Such Varmint, in VG, maybe VG+ A cgc 5.5 went $149 on Heritage in June 2022. $100 here -

Four Color #367 Donald Duck in A Christmas for Shacktown. Solid VG, albeit with pencil in the “Donald Duck” part of the logo. A lesser copy (stained cover) listed at $69.99 on eBay went best offer accepted, so who knows? A cgc 5.5 also went on the bay, for $189.99. Let’s do $75 here. -

Four Color #408 Donald Duck and the Golden Helmet. FN/FN- probably closer to the minus due to the vertical color-breaking scratch bottom center of the cover. In Oct 2021, a raw FN+ went $180 on Heritage. Let’s do $125 here. -

The opportunity: Over the next couple nights, I’ll post nine classic Barks ducks books from the Four Color run. These are in the sweet spot — nice-presenting but not super high grade, yet far from well-worn run of the mill copies. (Well, that’s true of eight of the nine of them, but the last one is an entry-level copy of a book that gets pricey otherwise.) I probably won’t get all nine listed tonight as I’m starting out late here on the east coast. We’re gonna make like Phish and go backward down the number line. Ready? -

5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: Via USPS Priority is $10; one book or the whole thread. Priority Flat Rate Legal envelopes are running $10.20 to ship now. (Canada ships at actual cost.) Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get it back to me in the same shape on your dime, except no returns on graded books. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.) -
Barks ducks tonight!

At the risk of taking us off-topic briefly, this really struck -- the granddaddy of Golden Age heroes really has the majority of his best rogues coming from Atomic/Silver forward. Other than Luthor, the only GA Supes villains of note I can think of are Mxyzptlk and Toyman. Atomic/Silver and forward gives us Brainiac, Bizzaro, Zod and co., Terraman, Mongul, Doomsday, Parasite... @SkOw could tell me if I've missed any obvious ones. Anyway, just wanted to put that notion out there.
