  1. This one might go on for a while… three collections here, not all of it worth bringing to you. If there’s some random copper thru modern filler you’re looking for, feel free to PM or call out the request in the thread and I’ll take a look-see. Plus there’s some goodies I have been saving for the right thread, and a couple re-runs at bargain “thank you boards” pricing. We’ll get started tonight; books from Golden to Modern will appear throughout.
  2. 5 Simple Rules (Please, please read) 1st wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread. Payment is Check or Money Order (yeah, yeah I know I'm a dinosaur, troglodyte, luddite, mennonite, hermaphrodite etc. - I just don't have or want e-payments.) Shipping: USPS Priority between $8 (flip n ship mailer in a Legal Flat Rate Envelope) to $15 (Medium Priority Box) for raws. Don't be listy including the little one in my head. Returns: Raws; sure, just notify me within three days of receipt and get in back to me in the same shape on your dime. No returns on slabs. (Kudos thread linked under my avatar.)
  3. My lack of comics-related willpower…coming soon to Mixed…you never know, “You Might Find It!”
  4. My lack of comics-related willpower…coming soon to Mixed…you never know, “You Might Find It!”
  5. This, because it will always have first-mover status, book that started it all position, within the hobby. (Not that G.A.tor needed the elaboration, but spelling it out for any newer casual, perusers)
  6. Whitmans were also sold individually in the book section of some department stores at that time. But I don’t know whether a third-party distributor got them there, or whether they were shipped direct from Western Publishing. I do know an old-timer who worked there; he may or may not know.

  8. Well, this is as much a case of “what the heck is this still doing here?!???” as we’ve seen around here… Awesome book, Jeff, and not one often parted with, to my knowledge. I was recently offered a copy and jumped at it. They don’t come up much. GLWTS!
  9. If I were going to spec on Dr Druid, besides the Amazing Adventures #1, (which is silver and predates FF 1 by six months, so probably an undervalued early Marvel in and of itself already), I think the cheap bronze play is Hulk 210, where he is first introduced into Marvel continuity as Dr Druid. And with Black Knight and Sersi and Hercules already coming to the MCU, a version of that late 80’s Avengers line-up is at least possible.
  10. Best morning coffee read in a long while! Very cool Wes; thank you for doing this and congrats on your registry set. And thanks to all entrants for so much fun, and congrats to those of you who won. What a great example of “this is why the boards are such a great place.”
  11. I’ve got a cover, but it’s attached to a whole book…less a centerfold
  12. I don’t have a CMA 140 anymore but I remember the story. That’s got to be it.
  13. Any chance you’ve got the centerfold to Cap 17 still laying around, Bob? That’s all I need to complete mine. And I may as well put it out there here too: I also need covers for All-Select 7, three center wraps for Planet 9, and a centerfold for Daredevil Comics 10. Anybody in boardieland able to help?
  14. Thank you; he was before my time but I dug into learning about him a bit after interviewing Sinnott and hearing him speak that way of his experience. I mean, if we did the same thing with inkers, Sinnott is pretty much a lock for that Washington bust, so it really struck me coming from him.
  15. @Funnybooks thanks for the info on Hogarth in response to OP; I was tied up. He also founded the School of Visual Arts; students included Al Williamson, Gil Kane and Joe Sinnott. I wish I could remember the other names Sinnott told me he attended with; the conversation was years ago but I recall he named an all-star team of comics artists. Frazetta and Wood also cited Hogarth’s influence. To hear Joe Sinnott speak reverently and enthusiastically of Hogarth and his experience learning under him was powerful. Here was a comics legend describing the inspiration he looked up to. The tone of voice and look on Joe’s face sticks with me.
  16. I’ll answer the same way I did last time we did this thread. (Based on importance to the medium): Kirby gets the Washington bust; the rest is just chit chat over beers. That said, we can have a lotta great chit chat, of course….Tough to narrow the rest to just three. Bodies of work and important fundamental contributions get a lot more comparable among the other greats as compared to Kirby’s influence. A couple odd ideas: Charles Biro may have pushed more envelopes than anyone else, and many an artist credited Burne Hogarth as as an influence. Just a couple different ideas for the mix.
  17. Avengers annual 10 was a fun read, especially if you’re an Iron Man fan.
  18. Forget Avengers #8…smart spec play is 1st ish of Krang’s favorite magazine
  19. You’re waaaay too kind, but thank you kind sir!
  20. Just added these; the splash is from Web of Spider-Man (2009) #1 by Val Semeiks and Dan Green. The rest are Green over Mark Buckingham; Spectacular Spider-Man #28, and assorted issues of Fables. The double-spread is from the final issue, #150. Happy to have them!
  21. I think both buyers got a steal. Not only is it the first Pussycats, but it is the first black character in the Archie universe (Valerie Smith). And these things never show up in high grade.
  22. I never knew they were available there because I did know there was a there! I thought AC was long gone! I think that’s about what I paid, but it took me forever to find one turn up on ebay, MCS etc. I wonder if it’s old stock, or if they keep them in print, or even print on demand?
  23. Congrats Diamonddave; your threads will be missed! Please stay otherwise active on the boards! Uh, surely one of those very occasional animal charity fundraiser sales threads would be acceptable…
  24. FYI, AC Comics’ 1990s reprint series “Best of the West” #28 reprints this, including the cover, albeit with a blue background. It’s a black and white interior and somewhere between the size of a digest and a regular comic. Unfortunately, it’s almost as tough as the original to find but a whole lot cheaper. It’s probably tough because no one thinks it’s worth putting up online, but it’s out there somewhere. Then again, they probably didn’t have massive print runs either — 1990s western reprints, after all.
