  1. Great book at a great price from a great boardie! This shouldn't last long...
  2. Sweet! I remember that book! I cannot believe how much it goes for these days compared to then. Great example of the recent tide lifting PCH.
  3. It's a GREAT deal; the waviness from the water marks looks like heat waves from the flamethrower! I'm not even kidding! Such a great cover! Congrats to both!
  4. Owner says he wants it gone, so price is now $1,650! That's $316 under the current 9.4 white pending sale on c-link Now granted, that one is a pedigree (Bowling Green) but with all due respect to SA peds, we're not talking about a Church book; SA peds are not outliers to the same degree as GA ones typically can be. We are talking about a comparable book (less any cachet one assigns for the ped) at $316 less.
  5. I sold @Steelrain41 a Subby 1 on these boards and all I got back was a nice shout-out thank you when he posted in a "new in your collection" thread (silver? General?) I can't reconcile that with the idea that he scammed an eBay seller to snatch a trimmed Flash 123 cover. If I have to bet on someone pulling a fast one here, my money is on the lady carping of FB.
  6. Here's John's book -- Cap 100 CGC 9.4 white pages. Submitted as-is, unpressed. (Though I had the book in hand today and will add that I agree with its owner that it would not benefit from a press.) I took the pix; there are some Newton Rings; couldn't capture them too well but look above Cap's shield. Case is nice. Comps -- cheapest cgc 9.4 on ebay currently is asking $2250 ($1995 on MCS); the Bowling Green Pedigree copy (also CGC 9.4 white) is sale pending on C-Link at $1,966. Take this one at $1,600
  7. One book for a friend (to clarify, this is the guy who is the reason I got my Batman #'s 4,11,17 and 18 a couple months ago; he found the all-or-nothing deal and welcomed me to buy in). Tonight, I am offering for him his Captain America #100 cgc 9.4 white pages. Book has not been pressed. Rules will be most similar to my usual, except I will connect the winner and seller so they can transact directly. First wins; tie/indeterminate goes to the thread Payment: Teller's check or Money Order. Shipping: USPS Priority Shipping included. Return Policy: No returns on slabbed unless damaged in transit. No PL/HOS folks or other ne'er-do-wells.
  8. For some reason I thought you were missing one of the four, Dave. My bad. I'll tag an FYI to @wombat OP, your explanation of the wonderful context you give each book makes so much sense; when a thread is a true collection cull (versus a few things that came along with books you did want when one buys a batch) so much does go on in one's head before posting -- thank you for turning that process of release into a fun and educational read.
  9. @fifties I can't recall the reason but that may be it. I've got two in front of me (including a 21 HRN 30) now with no cover price, and I recall having others. My 16 HRN 28 has a blank spot where the indicia should be. I recall reading about this a couple years ago but I cannot locate yet what I read. I had bought a large Classics collection (16 long boxes, 90% Classics) from the son of a late collector who was trying to amass every HRN of every issue -- he was very close, with multiples of many. I have moved many since, keeping a dozen or so originals. I read a lot in a hurry about CC/CI at that time. There were also later printings (painted cover era) that had no cover price; "Twin Circle" editions (usually denoted with a small, rectangular sticker on the cover) that were printed and used as newspaper inserts, IIRC. I have been meaning to order Classics Illustrated: A Cultural History on the recommendation of a fellow collector; you have moved that up my to-do list! If I can locate the no-price explanation for the earlier reprints, I will report back!
  10. Bobby Benson 14 Tim Holt 30 Straight Arrow 3 & 22 The Frazetta Ghost Rider covers (help here) Gunfighter 14 Two-Run Kid 60 Rawhide Kid 17 Kid Colt 108 That's top of my head. Many, many boardies can do MUCH better! Yes, I realize some of it is silver...
  11. Yep, and pre-code romance and crime are a lot of the reason there the CCA was created (along with horror). A lot of that material wasn't really directed at kids. Crumb cherished his E.C.'s.
  12. Sorry, Mike … Actually, I only have a pic because a boardie in WTB was looking for one...so I pulled it out, shot it, and realized I wanted to keep it!
  13. I completely missed the is it for sale (it ain't!)
