  1. To my knowledge, this is the first time this information has appeared in Overstreet Page 175/176 in the current Edition (#49)
  2. Yes, it was printed in the US and shipped over to be sold in the UK market. Some say they were printed first! Not that it matters really. Nice book Liza
  3. Inspire people? Yes, I think I do Pete. To go and do something else I hear Champion the Wonder Horse is in the running (heh, heh) to play Black Fury. Black Beauty is furious, saying the part should have gone to a black horse. Actors are touchy aren't they. Appearances can be reflective Mike About half the pence copies I've managed to find are the only copy I've seen so far Craig. There are a handful that appear regularly, even in the US, but I wonder whether some had a print run of 12 copies, and 11 of them are either gathering dust in attics across Blighty or have returned to dust.
  4. Treasury Editions were great weren't they, as a kid. Massive comics.... brilliant
  5. Ah, you're back to the Batavatar I see. RIP over? Accepted him have you?
  6. Or you could try this one Mike - given the anagram of your board name, I think you might like it
  7. Arrrgh! I feel such a fool this morning Sorry guys, I was in a pit of self pity yesterday, smashing around like a tart in a strop, following a run of slings and arrows. I should know better to post when the mood is 'in the khazi' - sorry. Brent will return, Julie refreshed soon. Nice girl, Julie. Thank you all, for being kind @Glassman10 @1950's war comics @porcupine48
  8. Yes, of course. Sorry, I was being an idiot yesterday Master Logan. Too much acid @redsox1946 - welcome! Pictures would indeed be lovely... 9. Anyway, I should've stuck with the three Patrick's but got pulled back in by an AUS expert's emergence! Always the way isn't it. I downloaded the 49th Overstreet this morning. Here I am on page 178 courtesy of Jon McClure's market report: My 'stuff' (pence variants, font variants, L Miller variants and 1999/2000 newsstand variants) gets a mention throughout. Nice to see it in print like this in a book that has been there all my collecting life. The numbers in the article are out of date now of course - that's the nature of the beast - but maybe they will catch someone's eye, and they'll go a Googlin and find me......just as I leave! And I said the 'I' word this time, for those paying attention So, that's that. Good luck all - be good, and be seeing you...
  10. Afternoon I've been looking back over the last few pages of this thread and wondering why so few people like or comment on what I do. I put a lot of work into it, and get next to nothing back. Look at the last five or six proper posts - nothing. I don't get it. Glass - I love you man, you mad farmer, but I just can't be bothered to put all this effort in anymore. So - final update: I have 413 pence Charltons, of 465 confirmed, of 833 possible. I'll keep collecting, and more I'm sure will come in. Cheerio Steve "Neigh" (translation: "Stroppy f***er")
  11. Afternoon I happened across a website for a book shop in Manchester with pictures of eight new Gold Key pence copies - eight! I was ridiculously excited, which is unbecoming of a man my age, and rang to buy them. Well, what can I say. I have never met (on the phone) such an unhelpful group of people. They wouldn't tell me what they had left, denied the terms on their own website existed and refused to check or post anything found to me. I could go on, but all my enthusiasm and joy slowly turned to dusty exasperation and I gave up. I could risk the 4 hour drive there, but I decided that though the books were something I'd dearly love to have - if only to support the research here - that it would actually stick in my throat to give them my money. And the prices he threw into the air were ridiculous anyway. So there you go, some people just stamp on your throat don't they. Now, one of the books throws my 'gap analysis' into question, and therefore don't reply on that if you're reading. This is my last post in this thread (sorry Fog) Have fun Steve
  12. Afternoon Some great stuff coming from Joseph Italiano who appears to be as near as we'll ever get to a 'subject matter expert' on the history and production of AUS price variants. You can read about it all here, where the discussion is ongoing: https://rarecomics.wordpress.com/2017/05/17/aus-price-variants-australian-newsstand-editions/ If only a similar person could emerge to tell us about the early days of pence copies and font variants! Joseph has even provided an explanation for the handwritten 'N' numbers that often appear on AUS copies. Great stuff. As for my work here, we're up to 1,054 confirmed copies now. I'm sure more will come from Joseph as he updates his website and it will be interesting to see what surfaces. I'll be keeping an eye and continuing to monitor ebay until the spreadsheet is full. Here's a snapshot of my spreadsheet by the way which shows three titles all 'stopping' in June 93: The date coincides with the cover price rise, so you can see that it's likely that the titles do legitimately stop. Quite high profile characters too. So my projection of 1,677 maximum possible AUS copies - assuming the dates are right and all titles are captured - will drop accordingly over time if it becomes clear that gaps like these were by design and the missing copies will not therefore ever appear. I don't plan on any further posts here - the discussion is elsewhere, and no one here seems that interested. I hope my work has gone some way to identifying what exists. Cheers, Steve
  13. Optimism and pence copies. It's all I've got
  14. Thanks mate. I suspect that you're in a field of one
  15. If they weren't they are now Rake! Nice to see so many pence copies together like that isn't it. Not the best condition from the looks of it and a few appear to be suffering from some dodgy trimming with garden shears. A good set to snag low, but these pre- hero pence copies rarely go low anymore, alas.
