  1. Doesn't sound too bad to me Old Mil. I did a little spartan no work time a few years back myself.... and I loved it. More time to walk, ponder and potter with comics. Can't be bad....
  2. I think you're confusing a highlight on the lower lip to be teeth… as I did at first Yes, probably. And I think I also confused the eight foot gap between her eyes with an eight.... No. No, that doesn't work does it
  3. Hello Joseph! Nice of you to drop in and welcome to these here boards. You'll see I've responded to your duplicate post on Ben's wordpress site and Ben himself has fired a few questions at you. My interest has been in cataloguing what AUS copies exist - if you get time, perhaps you could cast you eye over my summary page here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/blogs/entry/4916-marvel-australian-price-variants/ Since I wrote it the numbers have increased to 1,051 confirmed copies across 93 titles Cheers, Steve
  4. Cheers Master Logan - I pulled 15 new cover scans from the site so we're up to 1,051 now
  5. "Says goodbyes my own true lovers As we sings, our lovers song Hows it breaks my hearts to leaves you Now ze carnival is gone High above ze dawn is waiting And ze tears are falling rain For zee carnival is over Ve may never meet again"
  6. "It started with ze Kiss! I'm never thinking it would come to zis"
  7. "Vot! Vot is zis lack of understanding of Ze Count and his postages from ze Shade Crimson! Must Ze Count suffer so at ze hands of ze baldie memberships unseeing? Are zere not postages of ze mirth comical upon which to feast ze eagle beady eyes? Does not Ze Phantom and Ze Duck Mandrake with his Man of ze Fez and Ze Popping of Ze Eye Sailor entertain? How can ze addition of Ze Popping of Ze Eye Sailor go unnoticed in ze thread of Ze Kings? I haff no understanding of zis (I am shaking of ze head at zis point with ze face of rueful sorrow). Zis is a sad day for Ze Count but ze sign off customary will follow none ze less. Ah, ha-ha-ha-hah!"
  8. Afternoon Here are the scores from the Confirmed UK Price Variant judging panel: Archie - 24 confirmed pence variants (of a potential 48 issues) - still static! The rest remain in hiding! Charlton - 461 confirmed pence variants (of a potential 833 issues) - up 10 since last report! Yay! DC - 840 confirmed pence variants - still static! Forever! Probably! Dell - 209 confirmed pence variants (of a potential 424 issues) - static! Gold Key - 109 confirmed pence variants (of a potential 171 issues) - up 2 since last report! King - 19 confirmed pence variants (of a potential 24 issues) - static! Marvel - 3,019 confirmed pence variants - static! Rub an inflated balloon on your jumper and you'll get - static! This makes 4,681 confirmed first printing UK priced variants across the seven confirmed publishers And still no one gives a monkeys about King Comics Postages or my pretty pence square above which took flippin ages to make
  9. I haven't added a pence Dell to the chart since the 14th of April despite checking eBay daily: It's been stuck on 209 (210 if you believe Darryl re Looney Tunes #223) out of a theoretically possible 424 for some time now. I've spent a bit of time this afternoon rechecking ebay / online by title and have found no more. And I found none at the last London Fair. I do think there are still a few to find, but I also feel the 'October 1960 cut off' will turn out to be a thing - 19 of the 40 titles either stop on, or have no pence issues after this date (eight of them shown below to illustrate the point): If I'm right, the overall number will drop significantly and there may actually be very few left to get.... Usually when I say these things, new ones turn dutifully up.
  10. SIX-GUN HEROES! Peown!, peown! "What?" "Peown" "Oh" "Draw or...crawl" "Hmm, well let's see. It's quite dirty down there and I don't want to get all dusty. I'll draw please" "OK. I was thinking maybe a house with some trees? Maybe with a sunset?" "I'll try. Art was never my strong point at school but I'll certainly give it a go" "Thanks" "Wyatt Earp" "Wild Bill Hickok" "Annie Oakley" "The Gunmaster" "Dave from Accounts" (not shown) "God Damn, I knew it Barney! The Gunmaster was Banksy all along" "Now, I'm going to unmask you, Gunmaster!" "Go on boss, take his fing mask off. Go on, take his fing mask off" "I will Barry just give me a - " "Take his fing mask off boss, go on. Go on. Take his fing mask off" The Gunmaster's Horse: "Neigh!" Translation: "Look out! The window - Gunmaster it's a fing window, watch outAAARRRGGGHHH! That really hurt" "Look - those trees are covered in bacon" "Get back inside President Grant - it's an ambush"* *The producers would like to apologise for the use of the 'ham bush' joke in this thread. A more witty caption will be provided in future. We further apologise for the lack of imagination shown regarding the choice of title for Annie's story. "Hey, Mandarin, seeing all these horses, I've got a joke for you" "Yoo say wha?" "Hoof Hearted?" "Wha?" "Hoof Hearted?" "Me no unnerstah" "Who farted you dumb arse!" "No need get batey with Mandarin. Last time Mandarin fight Indian and horse for yoo" "The commanacheros are attacking the town...if only Gunmaster were here!" "He's up there" "Oh, right. I see him" "Why...he... he's really GUNMASTER! I'd recognise those muscles anywhere. Come on now Gunmaster...take those pants off...come on..." An Apache uprising... Mexican bandit border raids. A gas bill twice the normal amount. Once again, mild mannered Clay Boone becomes.... Hang on, Clay Boone? Clay Boone! Are you taking the p? What is he, Pat's brother? Clay Boone...I ask you SIX-GUN HEROES!
  11. Further to the above, on the subject of cosmetic Fun Catalog cover differences: Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery #58 (this copy is missing the bottom right corner advert of the US version)
  12. Afternoon, followers of The Pence Keys of Gold! Two bright 6p friends arrived today, courtesy of Postman Pat and his black and white donkey (the donkey sat on the ferret): Nice aren't they I'm quite enjoying collecting these and have about half of the currently known (to me) 109 pence copies. The earliest pence copy I know of is dated March 1973 and, accordingly, the earliest Tom and Jerry is #270: One thing I've seen a lot of is copies of T&J #265 and 266 with the same 6p price stickers on them. Here's two examples: And here's another two: And here are a third set, together in one auction lot: The 6p stickers are very similar to the font used on the later printed copies: Given the similarity, and the multiple copies seen, it must have been an 'official' process wouldn't you say, that led on to the copies with printed prices? We'll probably never know...
  13. Still Morning Charlemagnes, but fast approaching lunch time Those in the know of the know all knowing knowledge will know that the title Teenage Hotrodders was on the Charleston Pence Missing List, presumed cents, for over 800 years. Many Jedi were trained during this period of unexplained absence. Or abspence, as we should call it. And then, those in the know of the know all knowing knowledge saw the arrival of Teenage Hotrodders # 2 in this Thread(dy the Hotrodder) and there was a rejoicing: But those in the full knowledge of the complete know all knowing knowledge knew that Teenage Hotrodders #4 had also turned up. Here she be: So, nothing for years and years and years and years, and now two of five: Maybe they only did even numbers? But that would be odd. Actually, it would be even - even only numbers. Odd that. But even, in reality. As for TH4, Rick Roberts is forced to say the following line inside: "Those extra horses are paying off!" Whatever could he mean? Has Black Fury fixed the race? "Neigh" Translation: "Fing cheek!" Anyroad (Fred Elliot) - any slip road (not Fred Elliot) - Rick has some bother but wins the race. Is anyone surprised? No, of course not. Even with equine meddling Rick wins the race. "Neigh. Neigh" Translation: "Look, I'm not going to fing tell you again pal" "Charlton Comics Give You Races Won Despite Horseplay!" "Neigh" Translation: "Right, that's it...."
  14. Morning Charlemagnes 15 of the probable 17 Unusual Tales now reside in the Charleston Pence Vaults courtesy of this mornings arrival of Number 41, the answer to the Universe and Everything for those that can't add up, or are a sandwich short of a picnic: Th eagle eyed among you will be wondering why you were born with the eyes of an eagle and likely planning hospital intervention whilst trying to resist the urge to swoop down on unsuspecting field mice. That's what Eagles do isn't it? Who knows, they're all stuck in Hotel Calista Flockhart and refusing to take calls. You (the eagle eyed among you) will also be able to distinguish the 'LM 9d' hiding behind the rather inconsiderate '3p' post production pricing addition. Here's a close up for those with Betty Davis standard human eyes: The 3p reminds me of the good old days when brother and I would make the weekly 2 mile pilgrimage to 'Rodneys' in Barking, where we lived, to seek out UK reprint titles with massive inconsiderate marker pen prices on them. It didn't matter to us then, and it doesn't matter to me now, here on this UT copy. The 3p is a sign that the comic has lived. Along with the store stamp, it shows that the book has travelled and passed between hands before finding it's way, 56 years later, into the Charleston Pence Vault. A rare honour for the book - to be forever presented as the 9d example to the Three Men and a Dog Like Sparkenwood who give a flying at a rolling doughnut about such matters (thank you, Morlar, for that line, itself stolen with thanks as you will discover should you happen across the GMAIL cretins resignation letter). Back to UT, here are the known 15 - I have them all (oh yes. I have them all): And here are the missing two - number 37 ad 39: Only time will tell if they exist. Time will have to learn to speak too of course, but I Di Gress ("Are you Di Gress?" "Yes, I am") Nice to see that UT #41 is the first appearance of Felicia Hardy, which few have cottoned on to: It's a much better story than The Primitive Parallel which, in keeping with Charlton, does not feature inside. Tell a lie, it does. I just missed it. Too busy with Up Yonder Glen to notice it. "Charlton Comics Give You More!" Correct
  15. Just to be clear, I think prime Kirby is brilliant. Of it's age, and brilliant. In the same way that old comics are brilliant. Charming and brilliant.
  16. That's my point Ken. He was very much of his time, defining it in many ways even. But that same art today? How many would dismiss it as puerile? Would it generate the same reverence?
  17. Meow Translation: "That's two more days holiday for you PooPiece"
