  1. Read, the thread alone (geddit Jim?)
  2. Ryan, you are a genius. It seems logical that the presence of the tiny uncovered bits of the 12c price can only mean that the cents copy was printed first. At least for this issue. And that supports what Chuck said - Cents run first, then pence. I'll check for similar evidence tomorrow. You may have settled that outstanding question. Well done! Now, about the chicken......
  3. These books are just lovely. The pence copies are great and I love all the as yet unexplained price font variations: They're of their time, and I sometimes wish I was back there
  4. One! One pence thread reader, ah-ha-ha-ha-hah
  5. I remember when you bombed the Morlar thread with it liz I have bofum, pence and cents. And the cents is a misprint! You can read about them here: Read the pence threads liz!
  6. Turn them back on liz. Then read the pence threads
  7. Yes, 3,007. With a few more to come, once they stop being so stubborn and reveal themselves to me. Read the pence thread for more info on it - you'll like it (and the DC one I did). Don't read the Miller one though, as that will send you to sleep. I used to have tons of them. Now, just my ASM 1-17 and the odd book I bought in support of the pence research (read the pence threads - you'll like them )
  8. You're welcome. If you check my pence threads, the answers are there. Links below if you have signatures switched on, or you can access them from the 'about me' link on my profile page. Good luck

  10. Hello. Oh, I could waffle on for ages about this. And have done recently, haven't I? A few thoughts. When I sold my ASM sets on ebay a few years back, pence always went for less than cents (I had full runs of each so could compare). Many collectors only wanted cents still, probably as a sign of purity. Over here, most dealers oddly make no distinction pricewise despite the clear preference for cents copies. SilverAcre for example don't even specify pence or cents when you order blind online. Order an ASM #1 without checking, and you may get a pence copy. At the fairs, everything 'decent' is priced the same. A couple of times I've chanced my arm saying 'it's a pence copy'. That doesn't work in my experience. From what I've seen in the US, pence books seem to get listed for less than equivalent cents copies. This reflects the continuing lack of respect for / interest in pence copies as I see it. I have done a lot of research on pence books and if you type pence price variants into Google my threads here crop up. So I may have played a tiny part in raising the profile. Who knows. This is easily the best comic forum, and I do seem to talk pence books up on it louder than anyone else. Those that love them, love dearly. Those that don't - the majority - don't with added disdain. There are thousands of members on here, and I get comparatively little interest in the pence threads. So that tells you something. Some even take the trouble to criticise you for calling them price variants like it's some crime. That's not me moaning - it's just a reflection on how few people care. Indeed, most of the UK members on here can't even raise a like / comment most days! The tide is turning slowly though, especially for keys, but pence books remain relatively unloved cousins by the majority on both sides of the pond. People like me are the exception. That's how I see it - I'd like to hear other Englanders views, as I concentrate more on what exists, rather than what they go for. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. Keep your eyes peeled for my Charlton pence thread by the way, coming soon. It's going to rock the house down. Well, for 3 men and a dog, anyway. Yes, him. Flipping Sparky
  11. You've put a lot of thought into this Frank and the spirit of it is sound. But I agree with artboy that it would be difficult to control and, if it had traffic, would need somone to own it and keep it in check. The boards are fairly quiet at the moment so you may have picked a bad time to ask the question. Maybe adding a poll would help get you more feedback? My instinct tells me take up would be low. If the books are low value its hard to imagine why people wouldn't just buy them online if they wanted them. There are a few NT's 18's on ebay now for example. Apart from the warm glow of helping people out, who would really scan down a thread looking to see who wanted one of their spare Power Pack number 5's? How are you defining low value? There could be arguments on that if someone pushes their want list luck. Anyway, I applaud your kind spirit, but I don't think it will fly, alas.
  12. Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye, Four and twenty Porcupines baked in a pie. When the pie was opened the Porcs began to sing, "Boobs and bums and fannies", and all that kind of thing.
  13. I've never heard it called that before
  14. Foley! Where ya been? According to Mr Spooner, he's been 'whizzy banking' liz
  15. I bet they don't eat porcupines. They don't go down easy. Maybe @porcupine48 would know?
  16. You must be getting close to a full set @nesqrick2 You do realise if you do, you're duty bound to produce a chart listing them all don't you
  17. Tis a fair monetary point divad. Me, I revel in the fact that there are a handful of glorious lunatics who catalogue that which the majority shun. Just wait until you see my next thread.....
