  1. I think that is the exact strategy. I am not opposed to buying pieced but at that price it would take 680,000 to assemble a .5 copy
  2. Hard to find, and if they are hard enough to find, I will take them without a cover. Gerber 7 and higher I will take coverless, probably partly because if they had a really nice cover on them I could not afford them.
  3. Just curious at to others opinions, would the book have gone even higher if it had not been missing the first wrap, or was that inconsequential? Were people only wanting the Wonder Woman Story?
  4. Sorry the sale didn't work out, but that is a pretty, pretty book!
  5. I loved his Buffy covers. They didn't have to look like the actors, I thought they sort of captured the attitudes of the characters. Talked to him a few times while buying art, genuinely nice guy too.
  6. Thanks for all the feedback. I thought I was being optimistic at a 5.0 but it seems as if there might be a chance.
  7. Posted this over in the Hey Buddy can you spare a grade, thread, but thought I would put it here too. Hesitant to get it slabbed as the interior cover is so much brighter than the exterior, but I do wish the water stain had not penetrated to the second cover. Good news was that the pages did not stick together. Any thoughts on to slab or not? Also if anyone wants to jump over to the other thread and give an opinion on a grade that would be appreciated as well.
  8. OK I was thinking about getting this graded but then you can't see the better cover. The water stain goes through the book but stays out of the panels and the pages are not stuck together at all. I wonder if it might get a qualified grade because without the water stain the inside cover is stunningly white. Just wanting to get some other folks opinions.Interior page color is white. Thanks
  9. Interesting that you bring up rarity as there is a More Fun 67 with slight restoration graded at a 1.0 on Ebay currently and I am not sure that it would have that much more value than an unrestored coverless, but otherwise complete copy. Would certainly be interested in other folks opinions.
  10. Thanks! So many threads here and so much history, hard for the folks who are new to this to know what has already been discussed.
  11. That is unreal. Guesses on the final price? 55,000?
  12. I once got a mylar sort of folder thing. Imagine a Manila folder but comic sized and clear. You put the comic in it for rigidity and then put that in the old Mylar 4s. Rigid and you could see the front and back, the crease of the folder protected the spine of the book, but I have not seen another of that product in a decade or more. Anyone got a name for it?
  13. That's pretty awesome! Would have scared the bejezus out of me as a kid!
  14. Dang, and I thought Batman was the world's greatest detective! Here is the 18 but I do realize that it does not specifically belong in this thread but since you asked about it hope it won't offend anyone if I put it in here.
  15. It would get my vote as the most interesting cover for sure? Is the scientist a vampire? Just what is in that syringe? Extra nice book!
  16. I got this late last year and just got it back from grading recently. Really happy to have it. Bought the collection (through a comic shop owner) from a man whose father had bought all the comics as a child in the Kansas City area. I did read it before sending it off and the story is pretty charming, but Batman being lost on a country road and asking for directions in full uniform? Pretty sure I would not have answered the door!
  17. Thanks, I never really understood the disdain toward conservation as they are not making more of them, and they certainly weren't made to last 80 years, so I don't get why folks get so upset and preserving them, With Conservation it isn't like you are trying to mislead folks about the condition to make more money, just trying to keep them from getting worse.
  18. I am looking for some advice from more seasoned golden age collectors. Is there a percentage that you would typically pay for a book that is conserved? If it is cgc 4.0 and medium level of conservation would that be 50% of a blue label 4.0? Less? More? Is there any differing opinions between silver age conservation being more or less accepted than golden age. Any advice and sharing of knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks
  19. This is kind of in the same vein and looking for some advice from more seasoned golden age collectors. Is there a percentage that you would typically pay for a book that is conserved? If it is cgc 4.0 and medium level of conservation would that be 50% of a blue label 4.0? Less? More? Any advice and sharing of knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks
