  1. I don't know if comics get damaged much being in non-archival bags/boards. I have books that are in the same bag/board for over 30 years. I finally got to my collection recently and will eventually change them out, but they look fine from the outside. There will be some yellowing on the board, possibly some image transfer, but I've seen comics that had that and they look exactly the same anyway.

  2. I was thinking about putting together a list of reprint comics from the 1980s Marvel. This list would explain whether the "second print", "third print" is listed in the indicia and also the ads on the back cover and interior covers to identify them without even opening them up. This would also include when the books were released (month/yr) as per Marvel checklist like I did with the Smurfs. I think we would have to establish which titles would have had reprints. We know Thundercats and GI Joe besides the Smurfs. Also, the earliest issues of Secret Wars, maybe 1-3? definitely had reprints. I think a list like this would be extremely helpful as to identify how rare some of these are. If people would like things like the gold covers to be included around 1990 era, I could throw those in too. Most people know about the Hulk 377 and New Mutants 100, Silver Surfer 50 has 3 printings as I own those too. So if anyone would like to help out, just pm me. I'll be in C2E2 this weekend, so I wouldn't start this project until next week. Thanks.

  3. Going through my Smurfs set with the Spidey heads, which I have #1 and 3. I have the 2nd print. These were printed in May, 1983 as per the list of other comics available that month on one of the interior pages.

My guess on any other comics that anyone has questions with. I would compare copies you own with others being sold. Look at the interior for a list of comics released that month along with the ads printed, especially back cover ads. Maybe someone would like to start a thread, or make a list in this one of all Marvel 2nd, 3rd, 4th? printings of 1980s Marvels and how to identify them.

  4. I would go with your favorite character/title. Grade to me on vintage doesn't matter too much and shouldn't for you unless you're looking for investment. Then it'll cost you a pretty penny in the long run. I like books to be at least in VG, but am particular about staples being attached and staining. I can live with creases and minor tears/spine splits, especially if they are mainly on the back.

  5. You can ship 1 1st class comic, even in a flat box for $2.77 up to 8oz if using the paypal/ebay shipping. You can probably put 5-10 comics in a flat rate priority padded envelope which goes for $6 or so.

My suggestion is probably to sell in lots and charge flat rate. Even the large flat rate box will probably fit 15-20 books for like $15-18. Maybe medium flat rate box.

  6. I had two copies of Batman Black & White preview only copies graded and highest. Sold one a few years ago. Still have the other. (just checked the census, there are 2 others now graded, another 9.8 and a sig 8.5). I also had the only Wild Kingdom graded 9.6, but also sold that a while ago. That one still is the only graded.

There are tons of non-Marvel non-DC books like Harveys and Archies and probably Charltons that have never been graded. Any copy would be the highest graded. :)
