What Period Does GA Begin and End For You For Collecting...
Krydel4 replied to Krydel4's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I agree with this, however, I think we've entered a period where we've stopped naming ages. The "Modern Age" has been around for about 35+ (longer than GA& SA combined, no matter what date you use to delineate) and still going (or 48 years if you use CGCs criteria). Are the comics produced during the late 80s that different from the ones today that the modern needs to be separated out into different ages than just "Modern"? -

What Period Does GA Begin and End For You For Collecting...

Overstreet, CGC, CBG, to name a few have used that time frame to mark when the Golden Age began and ended ie. AC1 to SC4. I personally think the GA was from AC1 to the end of the forties. But everyone has a different opinion when it comes to their own collecting tastes/preferences which is why I asked my original question. If you think it's to the end of 1945, great you have the same opinion as my friend I mentioned, you don't need to defend it. It's a preference. 👍 -
I know the "official" time period is 1938-1956. But for me personally, I don't consider anything past 1949 as being GA. The 1950 for me is the demarcation point. My buddy who also collects GA considers basically AC1 to the end of WW2 as the GA and doesn't collect outside that period. I can see his point as these 2 comics were only published 5 years apart but could be a million given how different just the cover art style. The AC is never going to be mistaken for a modern book but the SA wouldn't look out of place in the Bronze age. Just from the covers alone. Do any of you have personal starting/cutoff points for collecting GA that are different from the "official" time period?

Video game collector here. I have all my old carts from the 80s. Well- loved but complete with the boxes. I personally have a problem with an item not being used to its actual intrinsic potential and if you wish to turn your comics into giant baseball cards then all power to you as you can still enjoy the front cover and advertisement for GRIT/Hostess Twinkies/Art School on the back. However, with video games everything worthwhile comes from playing the game. The slabbing of those burns my cockles.

Low Grade Trimmed...Less Stigma on GA Books?
Krydel4 replied to Dr. Balls's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I was referencing more the angle of the top cut of the book as the bottom is at the same alignment when compared to the other copy I used for reference (even with the slightly less of the illustration that you pointed out) I think we'll agree to disagree on this one. Like I said I'm leaning, not 100% certain without the book in hand to ascertain for sure so lets say 51/49😁. As long as I've been in the hobby, I'm sure that Robot Man has decades more experience than me and probably knows for sure and is just being nice. Great book. Would love to own it in any condition. Cheers. -
Low Grade Trimmed...Less Stigma on GA Books?

@Robot Man For Comparison...I lean towards trimmed as the top is also missing some bits too. Tough to tell 100% from the pics. Need to have it in hand for a proper look. Feel free to send it to me. And if it is trimmed I'll make sure to dispose of it properly as you wouldn't want a trimmed book back right?🤔😁 -
Low Grade Trimmed...Less Stigma on GA Books?
Krydel4 replied to Dr. Balls's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Well, I'm not a professional grader and CGC standards are always changing (to quote Matt's book) but I would say 50/50. As it doesn't improve the books aesthtic at all but I've seen worse that get purple. -
I've heard good things about Vault of Midnight.

Low Grade Trimmed...Less Stigma on GA Books?

IMHO that has all the earmarks (fanned pages, jagged edge) of being cut with a rotary trimmer and not the guillotine cutter that would be used at a printers. -

For Comparison. It's not been trimmed too much at the top. It seems to be mostly the bottom and side. -

UPDATE to Shortboxed Shipping and Service issue
Krydel4 replied to Gambold Vintage's topic in Comics General
I think this may be a case of flipping. He bought the book in order to flip it and the timeline he needs to complete the sale to the other buyer is tight. Hence the shipping anxiety. -

I put this more down to his inking by Colletta. There are plenty of examples of Kirby with expressive faces in his pencils, only to be dumbed down and the detail taken out by Collettas inking.

The Archie Comics TMNT (and cartoon of the same vintage) contributed more to TMNT lore and how they are thought of by fans and the general public than the original Mirage series ever did.
