  1. If you are talking Heritage, I've noticed that too. In fact this last time it both cost me a book I wanted and, I think, it saved me money. On one book I put an early bid in and let it ride. When it came up for auction it quickly got to the bid level just below my max. The Cut Bid was off. As the timer counted down 3,2,1 I swear the bid jumped to my max and I won. The next book I used the Live Proxy bidding and put in a very large bid. The next day, remembering my previous experience, I cut my proxy bid in half. Then when the book came up for sale I live bid and won for a few hundred less than my max. I tried that on a third book, got distracted and lost during the live bid. If memory serves, Heritage has stated that nobody knows, at Heritage, your max bid. This can be technically true if they are using a program to automatically jump to your max, or just below. It can also be legal since the auction house bidding, so called shill bidding, is legal in Texas. I had sworn I was not going to bid on heritage anymore but then the Promise Collection pulled me back in.
  2. Those are really cool! I've seen the Golden Fleece and the Bean Stalk ones but I do not believe I've ever seen the others. Thansk for posting!
  3. Pretty sure I bought this in 1998 at Comics and Comixs in Berkley. The owner had a binder of pictures of comic books that had passed through his hands. Seems like many were the San Francisco pedigree, if memory serves. He had some Marvel Masterworks on sale so I loaded down my suitcase with those. It was a carry-on suitcase and I really did not appreciate how much weight the books added, I had made a couple of trips back to the store to buy more, until I tried to lift it.
  4. I have one somewhere and always wondered where they were sold origionally. Were the in five and dimes?
  5. Got this in last week. I will say that in-hand, I agree with the grade. I know it's tough through the slab to really tell but I'm very happy. The CGC slab is so clear, no Newton Rings, that you can really see the full cover gloss and the color dripping inks. The scanner greatly magnified the marks on the cover. I can barely see them in real life. The people who bought books in 9.4 and higher are hopefully blown away with their purchases. At the price point these are going for this will probably be my only purchase, I promise.
  6. Love the 3D effect on that cover. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Nice grab! I was dithering about taking it. Not in my normal collection wheelhouse but I love that cover and the fact it's a ped doesn't hurt.
  8. Does anyone know if these paintings still exist? I have never seen or heard of them ( or this book for that matter ).
  9. Interesting. Do any still exist with the original cover?
