  1. This is something else that has confused me: CGC has published their grading standards. CGC has publicly stated that they follow Overstreet standards AND assisted in Overstreet publishing a Grading book or 4. Overstreet has publicly stated that their standards have changed from what they were before CGC to now. If you are grading comics using Overstreet grading from the 1990s you are going to have bad submissions. You are also going to have head scratching submissions as books come back much higher graded than you thought they would be. Overstreet Grading Guide 2021 One reason I rarely get surprised on CGC submissions is that I use these guides. They work.
  2. Yes, absolutely correct it is a horrible look. However, it appears to be a look that is only surface deep. In 21 years of operation there has never been a single ex-employee who has asserted any such bias in CGC's operations. That speaks volumes.
  3. I think its impossible to control rumors even inside CGC. So, a grader is looking at a few hundred high(est) grade comics and I'm sure there is awareness of what it is and where it came from. That is very different from being instructed to grade lightly. One is a natural outcome of an office environment and the other is felony fraud and racketeering. People are conflating actual criminal activity with grading fatigue and enthusiasm. It would be tough for anyone who loves comics to grade a high number of these comics in a row and not have their grades slip here and there. It would also be impossible to not have the memory of these books in your mind when some poor slob's submission come through next and gets hammered on the grade. The stock market is due for a correction and the inflation rate, reported tomorrow, may cause it to come to fruition. Still, there is literally an extra trillion dollars in our economy right now and that money has to go somewhere.
  4. Just curious, but when you say things like this do you envision Jim Halperin walking the halls of CGC and saying, "That's a mighty fine book you're grading there. Be a shame if it were to be less than, oh say, a 9.8." How, exactly, do you think CGC lets the graders know that they should be lenient on a certain number of books? Is the grading carde marked? Does an email go out? Team meeting? Do you envision a tell-all book detailing all of the shady practices?
  5. The Promise Collection starts with 197*******.
  6. There are roughly 270 books currently listed. I am aware of what, 15, shown on the boards with very questionable grading? I'm sure there are others but, no, it is not nearly all of the books.
  7. Now this did make me upset. Not having a cap on the fee makes it awfully tempting to bump up a high priced book half a grade or more which can add tens of thousands of dollars to a value. Next step would be to give a bonus to graders for the value of books graded with no complaints. CGC could be the Pep Boys of comic grading.
  8. Some of the grading on that collection is truly horrendous and wrong. I'm hoping that when seen in person, out of the slab, the preservation of inks and gloss make the grades a little more understandable but yeah, some of those grades are . Still, I've seen other books graded just as poorly and out of 5000 you will find some that are mistakes. I'm not ready to say the whole collection is suspect because of a handful of very obvious and atrocious mistakes.
  9. Same here. For every auction where that nagging voice goes, , there are 4 more that closed below my max bid and at least 1 that closed waaaaay below my max bid. I have had some amazing deals off of Heritage. None this year but that is more a reflection of the market than Heritage.
  10. Can't say I recommend it. Love Godzilla but this was
  11. Thank you! I will make sure he gets this. Just in case Dena does not know who he is, and what he means to the boards over here, could someone give her a heads-up that he may be in touch? Dena doesn't know me from a groundhog so...
  12. Hey all, Marty Mann is having problems logging into his CGC account. He has received a number of messages over on Voldemort's site, as well as direct emails and PMs, asking if he is ok. He wants me to tell everyone that he is fine and thank you for your concern! Marty is not intentionally ignoring any of his good friends here on the CGC boards and wishes he could log in to say, "Hello!" If an Admin could contact Marty and help him login it would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I have to admit my first thought was, "$6,000?" "That would buy a whole house generator." I then envisioned the conversation with my wife, who gets upset when I sell almost anything, and decided against it. As to it being worth that, well, it is the only known 9.4 not locked up in a permanent collection and I know that Metro sold a #26 9.2 for over $5,000 either in 2019 or 2018. Those books are ridiculously rare in high grade; at least on the market.
  14. Thanks! This book is on my "never sell" list as it is one of my favorites and, more importantly, it is one of my wife's favorites. Still, it is very nice to see it being appreciated.
  15. Another copy of Donald Duck #27 in 9.4 surfaced in this weeks Heritage Sunday Auction. Closed at $7200, including Buyer's Premium. Here's the other certified copy.
