  1. I wouldn't unless you think they have a good chance of being 8.0 (vf) or higher. These books are expensive and rare at 9.0 or higher but not worth the cost of grading at anything less, IMHO. The old rule of thumb about gd being half of vg being half of fine being half of vf being half of nm is dead. now it is vf, at best, is 10% of nm with fine being 25% to 33% of vf. Gd and vg are cheap cheap cheap. The exact percentage will vary according to book so these are just examples of possible value breakdowns.
  2. It really is great. My wife loves this book and insists I buy every copy we find in the wild, if it is not beat up. That limits the purchases quite a bit! Still, I have 4 copies. Now that the prices are going up a LOT she may not insist so much.
  3. Whereas the #26 was driven by both and got $5200 in 9.2 in 2014. IN 2019 and 2020, the #26 in 9.0 sold twice for more than $1600. Makes you wonder what it would get now. I thought $5200, at the time, was ridiculous but now, if I had the money, I would buy it.
  4. On one hand, I love hearing that Barks is getting the love he deserves. On the other hand, I waited too long to buy a nice copy!
  5. I love the fact that you are going to try and complete the run! When you do, you'll have to start a thread to show it off.
  6. Not to Badger a point, it looks like it has ink loss on Penguin's hat, head, and coat. Lou_Fine says its total .
  7. I've only bought one and it was previously MRBedrock's copy so that should tell you how rare it is.
  8. So what about this one? To me this is just insane that it even exists above 9.4. Black cover picks up and shows off everything, as you know. This is stunning and I'm going to be watching its auction just waiting for it to break $50,000.
  9. Sorry, but I do not see what you are talking about. I see a spine that due to gloss is hyper reflective due to the light box Heritage is using. The things going on with the staples, maybe tears, maybe color breaking stress, I think are stress that outside the light box are much less intrusive. Again, I suspect, I have not held these books in hand, that they are so glossy that your normal critiques from scan/picture are not working. This book, in hand, would blow your lou_fine mind. I'll also add that this book would be one of the highlights of my collection if I could afford it. Absolutely stunning.
  10. Yep, I would have graded it around a 7.5 although this one does hold up my other point which is that the books are so steller otherwise, beyond usually one glaring problem, that the graders are having a tough time figuring out where it falls. This book would probably be at least a 9.6 and maybe a 9.8 without that corner gone. So, try to find 27 or more books that have major problems like this one. I'll wait. Not books where you will nitpick and downgrade half a grade but books that are off by one grade or more.
  11. Exactly! There really needs to be a hand shaking back slappin' emoji.
  12. Those overgrades really do suck. I totally agree it makes you really look at every book you might be interested in and examine them until you think they are trash or treasure. Too bad they are not using CVA
  13. Oo, ow! Hey, play nice! They are not supposed to be but it does go back into my whole, "If you love comics and you've graded a couple of hundred of these your grading skills may become forgiving over time." Not the way it is supposed to work but it may have.
  14. That may be a rare book now. I do not think CGC encapsulates known counterfeits anymore.
  15. Interestingly, the labels on CGC's new cases do not contain any fine print other than to visit CGC's website for current terms. Reading the terms, you are referred to the sites Guarantee Page which states: I wonder why CGC guarantees trading cards as not being over-graded but not comic books? The CGC Guarantee Subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations specified below, a CGC-certified comic book, magazine, lobby card, concert poster, print/sketch/photograph, or trading card (e.g., Pokémon or Magic: The Gathering card) (each, a “Collectible”) encapsulated in a CGC holder is guaranteed as follows: Type of Collectible What is Guaranteed Comic books, magazines, lobby cards, and concert posters (non-CGC Signature Series) (excluding collectibles encapsulated in the red CGC Memorabilia Label) The Collectible has been inspected by at least two (2) professionals The Collectible is authentic CGC Signature Series (any label) comic books, magazines, and concert posters The Collectible has been inspected by at least two (2) professionals The Collectible is authentic The designated witnessed signature(s) on the Collectible are authentic (Note: In the case of the yellow / green CGC Signatures Series Qualified Label, this Guarantee does not apply to any unwitnessed signatures.) CGC Signature Series (any label) prints, sketches, and photographs The Collectible has been inspected by at least two (2) professionals The designated witnessed signature(s) on the Collectible (BUT NOT the Collectible itself) are authentic (Note: In the case of the yellow / green CGC Signature Series Qualified Grade Label, this Guarantee does not apply to any unwitnessed signatures.) Trading Cards The Collectible has been inspected by at least two (2) professionals The Collectible is authentic The Collectible has not been overgraded (meaning it is not graded higher than CGC Trading Cards’ Grading Standards) (Exception: Grade is not guaranteed for trading cards encapsulated with CGC Trading Cards’ green Qualified Grade Label.)
  16. I am aware. Did you see Halperin's response to the Forbes' article? What Forbes didn't tell you.
