  1. Wow, man I wish I had the money for this!
  2. I agree with both of you! If I had to give the edge though, I'd give it to Christmas on Bear Mountain. It introduced Scrooge and set his character up forever. Plus, bears!
  3. I went to Torpedo comics, in Las Vegas, a few weeks ago and there was a 10 to 13 yo girl whose parents were telling her, "The comics you want are not that expensive. Just buy them both so we can go!" I did not get to see what the girl was buying, "No, honest officer, I wasn't stalking the girl but her comics!", but I do still wonder.
  4. Exactly. I have a restored book, although I think if I sent it in for a reholder it would be called "conserved" now, and a green label qualified book in my collection because I either could not afford a copy as nice or just could not find another copy, period. Then there's page quality. I went from White only, to well, ok off white to white, to cream to white, to, gasp!, all the way down to slightly brittle. I have 2 books in my collection with slightly brittle notations: a USA Comics #8 and an Archie #23. I read and reread the Archie #23 so I'm not even sure where the brittleness is. It was not apparent to me. I've never had the USA #8 out of its case but I'm told by its previous owner that it was perfectly readable. As has been said, sometimes with GA you must turn a blind eye. Still, rust is definitely a turn off for me but, depending on the book, it would come down to price. Would anyone here turn down a complete Bat #1, in any readable condition, with rusty staples for $10,000? If money wasn't the problem, then of course not. Its all relative to your comfort level. Buy what makes you happy. If you are going to fret and sweat about it, then walk away. Otherwise, enjoy the rarity and keep your eyes open for a nicer, affordable, copy.
  5. "The Many Faces of Magica DeSpell" made me laugh out loud when I read a reprint in the late 70s. That fond memory is why I collect Scrooge books to this day. Its in my top 10.
  6. Bought a great book at a great price! Thanks!
  7. Yeah, I'm hooked. Timely is just getting so darn expensive I'm trying to snag other books I like while the prices are relatively low.
  8. Picked this up last week. No graded copies.
  9. You can jump around on the Barks stuff especially the Walt Disney Comics and stories gems. Rosa is best read in order especially the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. I would read Barks before Rosa to get the full flavor of Rosa's detail but it is not required.
  10. Rosa's Uncle Scrooge is excellent! He is the reason I started collecting Scrooge books back in the 80s.
  11. Enjoy the Barks Crack! ( that doesn't sound right; too street for Barks. Barks Pop? Barks Chocolate? mmm, Barks chocolate.)
  12. Picked this up. 8 books away from a complete run now!
  13. On key books, and/or high grade, I always figure in the cost of slabbing when buying raw. There is also a "what if I miss restoration" penalty. I trust some dealers more than others on raw so the penalty can be $0 in some cases. Bottom line, I am more generous if already in a CGC case. Less generous if in raw or in a Voldemort case. And it has to be an absolute bargain before I would risk any other option.
  14. Got this in the current Comiclink auction. PQ isn't all that but presentation is great!
  15. Tec 73 if you are keeping it in a slab. WF 3 if raw and the first appearance is what really appeals to you.
  16. Thanks for the con update, Robot Man! I am going to do my best to go next year!
  17. For Donald Duck, "Trick or Treat" in Donald Duck #26 is a favorite of mine and my wife's. For Uncle Scrooge, "North of the Yukon" from Uncle Scrooge #59 made me happy when I was young and still almost makes me shed a tear for Barko.
  18. You are, of course, correct. I should have said, "Not all Church books from the 50s..." I've corrected my original statement.
