  1. Apparently Chuck like most every other Comic Book Dealer wrongly believed himself a "genius" during the pandemic bubble. In reality he was correct about the first few years and it being a mistake losing 90% of his business, if not for the bubble it probably would have grown to 95%. Hmm, 60% off means it's now only 2-3x FMV for the esteemed privilege to purchase G/VG raw comics sold as NM. Hey Chuck, have your oh so cherished "Elite" Clientele who were willing to spend 4-7x FMV for over-graded raw glut era comics abandoned you? Good Luck find a new crop of Rubes to do the same during these post-bubble burst times. No need to fret however as I'm positive if you live another 25-30 years until the next bubble, you can once again fancy yourself a "genius". Perhaps during that time you will pry open your wallet and at least bring your website up from the 1990's to early 2000's standards.
  2. Great Story! Stuff like that is why many of us collect what we do.
  3. IMHO even though probably not intended that way by Josh, Et al. , the stickers were effectively a flip of the middle finger to their customers.
  4. and not if you use the opportunity to invest heavily while prices are down.
  5. General observation from my years (1983-2011) as Comic Book Store shopper. - Those who were were in it only for the reading were the life-blood of the hobby - Readers generally would take the first copy on the racks. Occasionally taking one a little further down but almost never actually examining the copy. - The average condition in my time for a book on the racks in my estimate was 9.2 or 9.4. Being an average many books were worse, like the top copies . The chances of the original poster's books being in 9.6 or 9.8 are very minimal with the number perhaps being close to zero. As only DC keys from the time frame have "value" under 9.6, and very few post 1982 DC keys will have value under 9.4, my suggestion to the OP is pickup Mylar (2 mil Mylites are fine) and boards for only the keys. As for determining keys that's a whole other story. In my experience most shops that make bricks are NOT careful in the creation process. Damage to the book just in the insertion is the norm. There may very be shop owners and staff who do it slower and meticulously but they are likley the exceptions.
  6. I agree with 9.0 as mentioned above, however over the past year I've seen books in similar shape receive a 9.2. So lets say 9.0-9.2
  7. I bought this book new so I know that it has never been read and in a bag and board for years. I had it pressed before sending it in to get graded. That crease would not come out and was told it was a printer crease that happened during production? Is that true? I was also told that this book is being graded tough because of the number of issues printed? I'm just curious because I know there is no way to change this. Hi, Printers creases differ greatly from creases due to wear/handling. CGC's scans have much brightness that most defects are obscured. Why do they do that? Based on the 9.8's book's I've seen and own with varying printer creases and the ease of differentiating from non printers creases, if applying occam's razor then your book does not have a printers crease. P.S. I'm genuinely curious; a lot of "newbies" specifically mention a Comic is/was bagged and boarded when asking condition questions. As it has zero bearing on the condition of the Comic itself, I am trying to understand why that is mentioned?
  8. Most "newbs"/ "newbies" initially believe their books are 9.8,9.9.10.0, they quickly learn how obtaining even a 9.6 can be rather difficult. I'm a seasoned collector (Since 1983 as OCD-ish child) as well as a seasoned CGC submitter (Since 2000) and I've probably submitted 50 stunning book's over the past 23 years I thought had a shot at a 9.9, 0 have received it. Set your bar at 9.4 or 9.6 and get excited if you receive any 9.8's. Higher than that is not realistic. Although if you have Frenz staple an acetate over an ASM252 it may very well get a 10.0 - those who recall an event in Aug 2022 will get the joke to which I'm alluding, although sadly it was true.
  9. @sd2416 Here's an excellent spreadsheet of Complete Published List of Gold Key Whitman's and Whitman Whitman's For Gold Key, Whitman fans it's an indispensable document. It's greater than 95% accurate but certainly not 100%. The inaccuracies are generally confined to publication date - specifically the months. I've had it now for 10 years, sadly I am unable to determine the original creator to provide proper credit. Will post the creators info if I find it. The Whitman's first kick-off in 1971. https://www.mediafire.com/file/uwk9nod6jqciw8c/Gold_Key_-_Whitman_-_complete_publishing_list_-_Date_Sorted.xls/file Sample (sorted by title) - "W" indicates Whitman if that version exists.
  10. Huge props for going after the Meat rather than the small potatoes like is being done in a Showcase thread over in the SA sub-forum
  11. Actually many here get annoyed how I repeat over and over that I don't sell comics. Mine is pretty much one of those black hole collections.
  12. Those mid 70's Topps stickers are Hen's tooth tough in High grade due to roller marks occurring during printing, not to mention back of pack sealing damage. 1977 Star Wars is very tough, 1976 Star Trek too, but 1976 Happy Days for example is significantly more difficult above PSA6 (older slabbed 7's). Yet 1975 and 1976 Marvel Stickers do not suffer that same malady with high grade being the norm - go figure. Please note my comments in this post apply to stickers not cards BTW: I'm a long time non-sports collector, pretty much as long as I have been for comics.
  13. They won't. 2020/21/early 22 will not occur again in Comics nor Trading Cards. Supplies of most items in high grade have increased due to the bubble and interest has waned. The younger generations with their tiny attention spans have now been there and done that, they won't be doing it again. Bubbles are seldom good for the long term health in any collectible arena The potential good news is it may be fun hobby again for those who remain..? Folks there will always be outliers in any hobby. Outliers or Hot Comic De Jour in general are not a reflection of a hobby at large.
  14. Was referring to a potential Film with "Don't believe it until you see it." - Even if a film actually see fruition, the new thing is if studio does not think it will make money they might shelve so the tax papers foot the bill. Hoping the id10t's in WashDC will change that but not expecting anything.
  15. Which is why the mantra for any Film announcement should be; Don't believe it until you see it!
  16. Mark my words there will be no "Wonder Man"
  17. that contradicts your initial post that kicked off this thread Once again folks; Don't believe it until you see it!
  18. Gazillion's = any number a dealer has seemingly pulled out of their posterior.
