To be fair, Lou, I do think that we're at the beginning of a buyers' market where prices will tend to be on the soft side for a couple of years. That trend was beginning before the coronavirus came along and is part of the usual cycle in the hobby. Most collectors will hang on to their best stuff until the next sellers' market, so although there will be some bargains to be had, the selection of high-grade GA material won't be great. Bottom feeders will be in heaven.

I was following the auction on HA tonight, hoping for some deals. No bargain-basement discounts yet. An apparent VG- raw copy of Mystery Men four went for close to three grand. I actually laughed out loud when I saw that.

People might still be willing to sell their good stuff for 2018 prices, but you won't see much top-notch material in the no-reserve auctions. People won't risk offering it that way unless they have to.

It seemed like prices were softening a little before the virus hit. My guess is that we'll see a bottom in 2021/2022, and then prices will start to climb. I buy at all times. The selection is better when prices are high. I don't expect to pick up any of my grails in high grade during the soft market, at least not right away; people will sell their riff-raff first.

Yes, but what if if the seller cancels all of the bids first? Then the item isn't selling. If there is over 24 hrs. left, is there still a penalty?

It seems like the MMs have been getting strong prices on Heritage. Were those West's books? I thought maybe he was selling them in order to buy Verzyl's Mile High copies.

I agree. Census numbers have been rocketing upward on most 40s WDC&S books. That said, Mickey Mouse and the Phantom Blot has been on my want list since I was a kid. Even if it has more downside that upside, I'd still bid on the right copy. ETA: I just paid close to $300 for this one even though it's a very common book with very little demand. What can I say? I like the artwork, especially on the back.

Well, maybe...but I think that they must have a way around that, because I've seen it quite a few times. I think they cancel all of the bids first, and 10% of zero is zero. I usually see verbiage to the effect of, "The seller removed the item because there was an error in the listing."

You'd think so, but I haven't seen any deals yet. I've been collecting GA material for over 30 years, so I've seen a few "soft" times. It seems like the better books tend to go into hiding; most collectors seem willing to wait out the buyers' markets.

I've never sold any books through Heritage, CC, or CL auctions, but I bid on all three sites from time to time. As a buyer, my totally unscientific impression is that Heritage used to get much stronger prices on GA material but that CC and CL have mostly closed the gap. I still think that books sell for more on Heritage but probably not by a wide enough margin to cover the higher commissions. As for eBay, my experience has been that auction results are all over the map. I've picked up books for well below my max, but I've seen other books sell for several times what I would have been willing to pay. I've also seen plenty of eBay auctions cancelled because the seller didn't like how they were going.

Everybody remembers the spinner racks fondly, but what I remember about them is that comics would often flop forward over the wires and get spine stress. The rack you bought looks like it would do a much better job of protecting the books.

I can't tell from the pictures whether the right edge has the normal V shape. (I'm not even convinced that CGC can always detect trimming, especially if someone flattens a book before trimming it so that the V is still there and then dirties the new edge a little.)

The first thing that came to mind for me was the accident that killed Vic Morrow and two kids while the Twilight Zone movie was being filmed.
