  1. The $1.1M sale of the AF15 triggered a significant FOMO feeling amongst the general silver age key collectors, even though the book had seen some strong gains in the years prior to the sale.
  2. No, not Sikeston Missouri, but in Dexter. They are approximately 19 miles apart. For those reading this thread who may have information about the thefts/stolen artwork in this thread, I suggest you DM me as soon as possible, for your own sake.
  3. Mr Giffen was awesome. wonderful writer, witty, and engaging. he absolutely hated the NYCC and only appeared at the show because his lovely late wife Ana ‘nudged’ him to attend
  4. I remember Big Ben and Mike from Time Travelers from when they used to set up at the Toronto comic cons back in the late 80's, along with Harley. Always bought stuff from Ben. Mike was the funniest...you'd ask to see a book from his comic rack and he'd hold it a foot above your head, flat, and tell you the book is "impeccable". I actually bought a few nice Silver Age Spideys from him. Never bought anything from Harley. He always had the books, but his prices were always a bit too much.

  6. I'll take a shot at the Byrne Xmen 129 page. I thought it had a lot going for it, including: 1. Bottom left panel containing image of the team is somewhat reminiscent of the cover to Xmen 126, which is also reminiscent to GS X-Men1 so there is a 'familiarity' with the image. Furthemore, Byrne X-Men pages with nice team images have been few and far between. Also, Wolverine with claws out (but no 'snikt' sound effect). I think the aforementioned increases the appeal of this page. 2. The issue contains 1st appearances of both Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost (White Queen). Both are significant characters to the X-Men mythos (and other titles) for decades. Although neither character appears here, it is still a page from their 1st appearance book and commands a premium. 3. The Dark Phoenix Saga begins with this issue. The Saga is certainly amongst the most well-remembered/well-received storylines of the late Bronze Age, but let's just say its in the Top 3, for arguments sake. Pages from this storyline have traditionally carried a premium over other storylines, and I think we see that here. 4. The Byrne/Austin combo is one of the greatest artistic collaborations in comics history. Not all Byrne pages were inked by Austin, but this one was, and its a really nice page. 5. There's a few BSD's known to go after Dark Phoenix Saga pages and I'm certain this also played a part in the final hammer price
  7. I find your remarks offensive. these are books I collect and 9.8 is the grade I prefer for these books. I am no speculator or flipper. I have at least a dozen of each of these books because I grew up reading ASM and I like these books. Furthermore, if you want to measure the health of the overall comic book marketplace, go ahead and spend your own time to do it.
  8. Some recent ASM sales from Heritage. Haven’t seen prices this low in quite a while.
  9. Yes, in fact I used to do this when I was a kid, jumping off porches, my tree house, etc. I’ve also seen Olympic gymnasts do this numerous times
  10. As in, Did Burkey bid on and win his own consignment piece?
  11. When is a sale not a sale??? This Travis Charest cover was on Albert Moy's site earlier this year for $9K, then it went to Burkey's site where it sat for a while at $12K. It was then auctioned at ComicConnect (while still being listed at Burkey's site until CC asked Burkey to remove it from his site) and sold for $11K last month. Now its back on Burkey's site, but for $11K.
  12. Hiya, folks: Got some nice, affordable pages with main characters for sale. they are consigned to Heritage, with all auctions ending Wed, Oct 4th. Here's a brief summary of the pages, along with a direct link to the page at auction: Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna Green Lantern Corps #4 Story Page 5 Original Art (DC, 2012). Nice 1/2 splash with John Stewart and other Green Lanterns are held hostage by an endless horde of hostile aliens. Note: this page is pencils AND inks which is hard to come by considering most of Pasarin's pages are pencil-only. Link: Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna Green Lantern Corps #4 Story Page | Lot #46156 | Heritage Auctions Tom Raney and Scott Hanna Ultimate X-Men #74 Story Page 14 Original Art (Marvel, 2006). In the aftermath of a battle, Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) sits wistfully outside the X-Mansion. Just a beautiful page with an excellent rendition of Kitty Pryde by Tom Raney. Link: Tom Raney and Scott Hanna Ultimate X-Men #74 Story Page 14 Original | Lot #46167 | Heritage Auctions Jim Starlin and Al Milgrom Mystery in Space #5 The Weird Story Page 5 Original Art (DC, 2007). From "Too Much", a backup story starring The Weird, cosmic master Jim Starlin depicts an unsuccessful escape from an alien prison. Starlin still delivers high quality story and art in this vintage page.
