For the past few days, I've been debating to myself the pros and cons of buying these (2) books in a "package deal" for my personal collection.Even though the price of both books have dropped significantly since the beginning of 2022, this "package deal" still cost 5 figures (not cheap). In the end, I decided to break open my piggy bank and told myself that the MCU has BIG...BIG...plans for the FF, X-Men and Wolverine. Major "Key" books such as Giant Size X-Men #1 and Hulk #180 will always be in demand by peeps in the comic community.- ADAMANTIUM, Sweet Lou 14, Browns81 and 7 others

- CGC 9.6 is the Highest Grade for this Item (Probably all 9.4 and 9.6 on Census of this book are File Copies).
- A CGC Census Population of just 10. That's right...just 10 books.
- "Key" Silver Age Gold Key Comic from January 1964 which makes it nearly 60 years old.
- Like Scooby Doo and other "kiddies" comics, these early Flintstone books from the 1960's were read, enjoyed and abused.
Heck, I would love to get myself the matching high grade companion to the 1st appearance of Bamm-Bamm. However, I don't think this will ever happen. There are only (5) graded copies of Flintstones #11 (1st appearance of Pebbles) on the CGC census. Furthermore, there is only (1) high grade example in CGC 9.4. The next highest grade of Flintstones #11 drops down many steps to CGC 7.0.Gang...I was fortunate to recently locate another high grade copy of Flintstones #16 (1st App. of Bamm Bamm ; January 1964).However, this puppy was raw / uncertified when I found it on Ebay. Well, it just came back from CGC as a 9.4 (OW/W Pages).I'm now the happy camper of (2) copies of this bad boy. -

(2) recent acquisitions that I made the past few weeks for my personal collection. The Jetsons #1 by Charlton Comics (November 1970) is the ONLY 9.8 copy on the CGC census (Census = 31 Copies ; 9.8 Highest). I couldn't resist the opportunity to own the single highest graded copy.Furthermore, I was relieved / happy to see that I'm not the only one who is focused on procuring these "cartoon books" as a Jetsons #1 by Gold Key (January 1963) in CGC 5.5 just sold the other day on a Heritage auction for a record high $900. -

The post mentioned speculation, my response was targeted to speculation. Say WW204 now commands $2000USD or $2500 in CGC 9.8 , do you see it double, tripling, Quadrupling in value based on DCEU appearance? Do you see it approaching HOS92 or GL/GA76 values? - I don't. At best it will still go up a bit and if one is really lucky will hang on the the majority of it's gains. IMHO that is best case and that depends on the 9.8 supply staying near 5 (say below 10) over the next couple of years.
When a Marvel book gets hot, 2k could go to 4k or to 8k. Not many DC examples of that, not many like Batman 251 for example. Of course Batman with Classic Adams covers are outliers.
I picked up mainly DC Silver and Early Bronze throughout the 1990's as I did believe it was undervalued. Well it was not. The supply may be smaller but the demand is greatly reduced. If I had purchased mostly Marvel Silver and Early Bronze in the 90's I could easily have retired early already. I don't sell comics - NEVER have, but believe me when I say if I had hundreds of high grade Mid Silver Age - Early Bronze Marvel instead of DC right now I'd would be selling to retire early as I've had it with the "rat race".
For decades folks like myself thought DC would be the next big thing, outliers aside, history has proved them and me wrong every time. Not to say you cant make money with DC but it's so much simpler with Marvel as you can still get onboard after a spike and profit. Not to mention much higher % profit potential.
I do wish DC would jump to Marvel levels as I have vested interest in that but for nearly 4 decades now those hopes for me have been crushed when compared to Marvel book values. My best guess is history continues to repeat and the chasm between Marvel and DC grows ever larger in Marvel's favor.
Please note outliers will always exist but outliers are an exception not the norm.
P.S.
"Smart Money will not tell others when they are accumulating books."
I was very surprised see a "Shut-up" type comment like that. That is sad, as I for one appreciate counterpoints especially when it comes to speculating. I wish I had been told grab more Silver Marvel than DC from 1990-1999. Rather than merely being given faux positive lip service by other collectors and dealers for my DC purchases.
I promise. My last post on Wonder Woman #204...
You stated, "Say WW204 now commands $2000USD or $2500 in CGC 9.8..."
I understand that you're not a fan of this book (that's cool), but your current assessment (along with GPA and GoCollect) of it's value in CGC 9.8 is way...way...off base by a few hundred percentage points. I've received a half dozen private offers in the past +/-2 years ranging from a low of $3K to a high of $12.5K (Yes!!! I said $12.5K!!!) just a few weeks ago for my WW #204. This price appreciation (speculation) has occurred without confirmation yet by DC of Nubia in the upcoming WW #3 movie.
Question...Now, why would someone offer me $12.5K for an item that is supposedly valued considerably less???
- Could it be that the "smart money" knows that WW #3 movie related news about Nubia is coming soon?
- Could it be that there are only (5) copies of WW #204 in CGC 9.8 according to the census and that the "smart money" wants to move in before the herd?
- Could it be that the "smart money" is also swinging for the fence and understands the market fundamentals of supply vs demand?.
IMHO, I think it's because the "true value" of Wonder Woman #204 in CGC 9.8 is just starting it's vertical trajectory and the price this book will eventually command in a few years from now will shock most comic investors.

It's not Marvel thus demand may have already peaked? Buying now at current asking rate represents future wallet-ache.
Your honesty in the first sentence is refreshing. You clearly have bias towards the book on your part but betting on DC+DCEU is almost always a losing proposition. Smart money speculates on Bronze/Copper/Modern Marvel and never on DC and certainly never ever on a DCUE appearance. Black Adam/The Rock being the most notable outlier.
Many of your points are valid with regards to speculating in Marvel (MCU) vs DC (DCEU) books.Heck, I'll be the first to acknowledge that I'm a "DC Hater".Now, even though I'm a "DC Hater", I passed Economics 101 in college many years ago and with only (5) copies of this book in CGC 9.8...the economics of supply vs demand are heavily skewed in my favor. As for my risk, I procured this puppy in 2017 (about a month or so before the release of WW 1 movie) for $500.At $500 for a WW #204 in CGC 9.8...I think it's fair to say that my risk is almost non-existence on this book.In summary, I'm swinging for the fence on this bad boy.:-) -
Okay, I admit I have a vested interest in this speculation. From the DC comics that will shine the brightest / be a potential multi-bagger in the coming 2 to 3 years - Wonder Woman #204 (1st Appearance of Nubia) is high on my watch list.Why...Because there's a very strong possibility that the DCEU has BIG PLANS for Nubia and that she'll be featured prominently in the upcoming Wonder Woman #3 movie. For you CGC collectors, the census shows there are currently only (5) copies of WW #204 in CGC 9.8 Universal Blue out of a population of 247 graded copies. That means just 2% of the CGC population of WW #204 are in 9.8 condition. Which equates to a dramatic imbalance of low supply vs high demand for this puppy in the CGC 9.8 grade.Following the path of other very scarce CGC 9.8 Bronze Age books (Marvel Spotlight #5, Heroes for Hire #1, Strange Tales #169, etc) this issue has what I hope / believe to be a bright future once the news is official about Nubia joining the DCEU.

Perhaps it was a particular brand she used? I've been using it for years for labels on both old and new cgc cases with no issues and it comes out perfectly clean with no scuffing at all and afterwards, I take a paper towel and with just a few drips of water on it, I wipe any left over residue off it, then dry it with another paper towel. This is the exact one I've used many times. I should also point out that I peel off most of the label by hand and once there is only the glue from the label left, I spray the paper towel (not the cgc case) so I can control how much goes in the concentrated spot I'm removing and lightly clean away what's left. Once done, there is no trace of any label or scuffs at all.
My two cents...Ive also been using Goo Gone for years on the CGC slabs and have always been happy with the excellent results

I'm not complaining at all but a batch of ten modern comic books (no fast track) I sent for grading 5 weeks ago have been graded and are on their way back to me. I didn't think I would see these before next year. I'm pretty floored by this. Am I too cool for school? Am I better looking than I thought?
I think I got you beat.- I had 25 "Modern" tier comics (not fast track) delivered by USPS to CGC on September 1st.
- It was acknowledged as "Received" on my CGC Submission Tracking page on September 29th.
- The status then changes to "Shipped" on September 30th (Yes...1 day later!!!). The books are currently on their way back to me.
Now...That's what I call lightning fast customer turnaround service!!!The icing on the cake is that that 21 out of 25 of my books (mosting mid 70's to 80's stuff) received either a 9.8 (11 books) or 9.6 (10 books). If only all of my submittals to CGC was like this...:-)- Fisionbomb, The Lions Den and Artifiction

For myself, I was monitoring VERY CLOSELY the AF #15 (CGC 4.5 ; OW/W Pages) on Comiclink that just sold for $74K.The reason I think is obvious by the attached photo of the AF #15 that I currently own. Both the Comiclink and my AF #15 are in CGC 4.5 condition...both have OW/W pages...both are aesthetically very similar in appearance...and most importantly both have NO Marvel Chipping (the Comiclink AF #15 did have some very minor pre-chipping).Before the auction started on Comiclink for this AF #15, I told myself...- A hammer price under $50K = Very Disappointed- A hammer price between $50K to $60K = Ho Hum- A hammer price between $60K to 70K= Not Bad- A hammer price between $70K to 80K= Yeah Baby- A hammer price between $80K to $90K= To the Moon- A hammer price over $90K = I didn't think this would happen. AF #15 in CGC 4.5 still needs a little more simmering. In summary, I think if you own an AF#15 (any AF #15) you should be happy with the strength of the comic market for this puppy.- KCOComics, RetiredOldMan, c_mkv and 4 others
