In Praise of Single Pages
Professor K replied to GreatCaesarsGhost's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
The 12k joker splash on e bay was just a beautiful example. Probably wouldn't sell for 12 right now but close. I do kind of feel the opposite. If I'm gonna get a page it better be blue. -

He's about to kill thousands of people. He's like "You're wasting electricity". -
L.B. Cole cover thread! Post your favorites by the master!
Professor K replied to *paull*'s topic in Golden Age Comic Books
That is a really cool cover. All the people from the book coming to life. I found this description: When Gram finds an old patchwork quilt in the attic she uses it to tell stories of long ago to Patches. In the first, a young boy warns General Washington about two redcoats attempting to infiltrate his ranks. -
What it's not real? Well I don't know!

I wasn't going to comment as all the good wisecracks have been taken, but assuming this is real it's ridiculosus (That's Latin for stupid). The purpose for encapsulating something is to protect it. Protecting a protector is pointless, personally I'd rather take my chances and pay to just get it re-holdered.

Everyone loves the Zeppelin cover. More than twice the price of issue 35 Blue 5.5. which is a heck of a cover as well. These D-Day covers that were created before D-Day are interesting. How did professional comic artists, mostly Schomburg, know how it was gonna go down. Maybe the US military got the idea from them. "How are we going to get our troops into France?" . "General Eisenhower, you gotta see this".

Fantastic Four Collecting Thread!
Professor K replied to uclapeterg's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Every once in a while you see a FF #1 that looks like this. It's probably been discussed here before. Think they were from one bad batch? https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/fantastic-four-1-marvel-1961-cgc-vg-45-off-white-to-white-pages/a/122239-17377.s?ic2 -
Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Thread
Professor K replied to Mac Man's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I think you're right. And at least one person. To see what printing it is you have to open the page. It should be in the title just to avoid problems, which this certainly is going to be. -

Any idea why a 3rd printing TMNT 1 8.5 is at 7,977.00 on comicconnect with 3 days left? https://www.comicconnect.com/item/954751 Oh and not counting the 15% fee. -
Still in shock that this book is mine
Professor K replied to CommunityComics's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I'll let you know when I see one by posting here. -
Yes I would miss having one. Yours is way better than mine. No tape and the title logo is complete. Among other things. Yes that is the dilimma. The question is how low will it go. To sell or not to sell, that is the question. And yeah it does bug me. I only paid 1,500 for it raw but yeah. I suppose I should make up my mind quick. Thanks all

Hey everyone, I was hoping to hear some thoughts on a move I've been thinking about for some time. I have an AF 15 .5 Blue. It looks not so good but it is complete (which many .5's are not). It's kind of like the John Merrick of AF 15's. Because of the grade it doesn't really fit with my other big early Marvel keys which are at least 3.0's. I have been thinking about selling and buying an ASM 1 (which I don't have) with the proceeds. I figure I could get an ASM 1 4.0 with the funds form the AF 15 or put out a few more bucks for a 5.0. Low grade AF 15's are, as we know, unpredictable. I've seen low grade, really bad looking raw copies go for more than many .5 cgc graded copies in the same time frame. Anyway, what do you think? Keep one of the worst looking graded examples of the King of the Silver Age or sell it and get a decent looking ASM 1? Another option I've considered was selling the AF 15 .5 and wait for an AF 15 1.5 or possibly a 1.0 to come around. Of course that would take at about 5K to 8K more to acquire. A- Keep it and be happy I have one. B- Sell it and get a comparably priced ASM 1. C- Sell it and dish out extra dough for a 1.5 or 1.0 D- Something else Thanks,

Nice book. That and Black Cat Mystery 50 would look great together. -
Has anyone heard from Mr. Bedrock?
Professor K replied to Randall Dowling's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Thanks for posting this. I'm going to start watching these guys. When I see those early Fox and Fiction Houses I get all tingly. All those books in that presentation are just wow. Beautys. Who did that Great Comics 3 cover, anyone know? -
If he is good for him.

Action 1 Rocket Copy & Tec 27 CGC 4.5
Professor K replied to Chicago Boy's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
When the rocket sold in January of this year at the time things were just going insane, so the buyers might have been thinking of making a nice profit at some point when they bought it . Now that things are settling down the owner(s) probably figures get out while the gettings good. Even though Action 1 is nearly immune to going down in value if I were the owner I'd be concerned that one of the graded copies a little less than a 6.0, like a 5.0 or 5.5 might come up and perform well under 3 million. Or one of the few higher graded copies like the 6.5's to 8.0 might come around and not get much more than 3 million. I just think 3+ million was kind of high for the rocket back in January. -
I know, it does seem pretty kooky. Here is why they say it received the sticker: ow/white pgs; DOUBLE COVER, 1st cover 9.8, 1 of 1 at the top!; QES Certified - Criteria met: Preferred staple placement + Flawless staple area + flawless cover edges + Color Deep Strike(Red). I have noticed a lot of the QES stickers note staple placement and color strike. I have an Iron Man 55 with almost the same notes.
