  1. Actually I deleted that post days before the auction ended. But a deals a deal. I'll make hat jerky out of it. Wash it down with some ice cold Moosehead beer.
  2. Oh. I thought you meant the Caps were getting a lot more action early on than the More Funs were. Sure that's not what you meant?
  3. Its hard to get an internet bid with the lady auctioneer. She goes so fast. Sour grapes here I know but I hit the bid button the millisecond Lot Closing appeared then it closed instantly. The whole thing was over in like 8 seconds. The auctioneer prior practically was begging for another bid before banging down the hammer. To whomever won the Young Allies #1 , I want a do over. ...........Edit: Or maybe we can make a deal? Pretty please?
  4. Blue Bolt #2, there it is thanks. In Mystery Men # 10 and Science #4 I suppose even though they both had art/writing in the books it must have been in seperate story's (stories? ), therefore not an actual collaboration. Joe mentions Blue Bolt and he and Jack in this interview around 8 minutes in
  5. Nice. I found these a few weeks back. http://www.marvelmasterworks.com/resources/kirby_chronology.html https://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/simonandkirby/?s=Early+Jack+Kirby https://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/simonandkirby/page/2?s=Art+By+Joe+Simon https://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/simonandkirby/?s=Art+By+Joe+Simon
  6. Most of the recent Fox books were low too until the auction began, then it was every man for himself.
  7. Thanks for that info Prime. I always have to know history of things, it's like an obsessive disorder. So it must mean collaboration on the cover like you said. From what I see Kirby's cover order by cover date is: Champion Comics 9 7/40 - Jack and Joe Red Raven 1 8/40 - All Jack Champion Comics 10 8/40 - All Jack(?) Daring Mysteries 6 9/40 - Jack and Joe (?) Marvel Mysteries 12 10/40 - All Jack Blue Bolt 7 12/40 - I can't tell Then Prize Comics 7,8,9 again I can't tell. #7 looks all Simon to me, 8 and 9 I just can't tell for sure but I think neither is all Jack or no Jack at all. Nice covers though. Thanks again
  8. I looked at past 8.0 sales. Two have sold that I found , last time was in 2009. One of them is a file copy and the other isn't. So I guess the third must be the one your considering. The last 3 8.5's sold for around 280.00 in 2019,20,21 so if you buy the 8.0 it's no big deal. You can always sell it when you find a better Larson. Still strange a 1943 Larson. Could call cgc and see what they say.
  9. Hey PD, that book is from 1943. I'm sure you know, with 26 pedigrees to your name you're no newbie thats for sure. Did you have the opportunity to look it up the cgc number on their website? https://www.cgccomics.com/certlookup/ If it's labeled as a Larson I don't get how they could make such a mistake. By then he was into model airplanes I think . Very strange. The 9.6 is a Church. I didn't see any Larsons in past sales.
  10. I was doing some reading up on Jack and I found this thread. I don't know why it stopped. Regarding Kirby's earliest work in comics from what I see he did a feature in Famous Funnies called Lightnin' and the Lone Rider starting in Sept. 1939, using the name Lance Kirby. Around that time he started working for Fox doing the Blue Beetle comic strip using the name Charles Nicholas. In May 1940 he did work on both Science Comics #4 and Mystery Men # 10. This was also the month Joe Simon began writing stories and doing covers for Fox. Jack also did a story called The Solar Legion in Crash Comics issues 1 through 5 also beginning in May 1940 until October. During those months he worked with Joe Simon on Blue Bolt Comics starting with issue # 2 in July 1940, and Champion Comics #'s 9 and 10 July and August 1940, then his earliest work with Timely began with Daring Comics # 6 and Red Raven both dated August 1940. I guess most of you already know all that and if any facts are wrong or I left something out please tell me. I wrote all that because I have a question. Kirby and Simon worked on the 2 Fox titles in May 1940. On the cgc label for Champion Comics # 9 July 1940 the CGC label says "1st Simon and Kirby collaboration". Anyone here know why? Are they refering to only the cover? Not my book:
  11. I'd like to know the whole story about that. Just general questions I have (not directed at you Prime) are if Moldoff did ghost Kane was it only some covers or interior work as well? Hard to tell because the only Kane covers I know are Batman covers. I think Tec 33 and 36 are probably Moldoff's, and possibly 35 and 37. Another thing that makes it diificult is I believe DC was very specific with their artists as far as how they wanted their comics to look. Maybe not so much in the very early years but by 1939 I think they had a very specific look they wanted their artists to follow. So that makes it for me at least a little more difficult to positively identify the artists. Is the interior Flessel? Of course it is nevermind. Well would you look at that. Not exactly ghosting , but more like swiping.
  12. Well I didn't say all that now. Not that you're wrong of course.
  13. Tec 54- The poor mans Tec 33 Someone was about to say it sooner or later
  14. 26 of them........that's impressive. There's like 61 now according to the website. Quite a goal to endeavor (endeavour for those up north and across the pond). I bet only a few people have actually accomplished it, if any. Probably a few but I'm sure a very few.
  15. Definitely does. NReal nice 2.0 and a 3.0 with serious chipping. I was still a little surprised the 2.0 went higher.
  16. Something you don't see often. A 2.0 outsold a 3.0 in the same auction. I could almost hear the 2.0 shouting "Yo Adrian, I did it!".
  17. Another good example Dec. 1939. Not mine but a lower grade is on my little list. I like the car.
  18. I wonder who was the first artist to use this "design" where the usually normal size character is suddenly a giant. Fantastic Comics #'s 3 and 5 (Feb and April 1940). More Fun 52. sort of, Feb. 1940. More Fun 54 April 1940 Spectre is definitely a giant. Did Spectre, and/or Samson, have the ability to change their size? Green Mask #1 and Blue Beetle #2 they're giants. More Fun 62 and Batman 5 the people are in their hands. That would make them like 80 feet tall. Detective 31 if that counts is the earliest example I can think of. It probably started sometime back in the Pulp days
  19. I got outbid on the #1. Came in 4th or 5th, hoping for a miracle I guess. It did very well. To me the best Arrow cover by far. Actually one of my favorite early GA cover of all. It's perfect.
  20. Honestly I was being conservative with that assessment in the hope of persuading lou_fine here. Didn't want him thinking I was on mind expanding hallucinogenic drugs
  21. I assure you sir it's not the drugs talking. C'mon, that would go for at least 40K now. Don't you think? Some schmo paid over 4k for a 3.0 with tape on the spine last night. And I think it was made clear last night that a lot of the Fox books with especially neat covers sell for much more.
  22. Well a .5 incomplete Wonderworld 7 went for 3,120 on HA in March. By that standard this 1.8 went a little low don't you think? Probably go for double today easily.
  23. I was fortunate enough to win this lovely book last night. I know I overpaid. I've decided that when I get it it's going to CGC to be put in a nice shiny holder and also that gives Jack Kirby some credit. Pretty sure Mystery Men 10 and Science Comics 4 were the first time Simon and KIrby teamed up in the comic biz. My main concern is a downgrade. Anyone see anything that stands out(or doesn't stand out) that might cause it to get a lower grade? I know it's got tape, that doesn't usually affect grade right? Thanks Edit: If I broke a rule by posting a pic of another company let me know and I'll edit the pics. I just wanted everyone to see what the label said about the tape. Thanks
  24. Thanks. I've wanted this one for a long time. One of Flessels best covers.
