Insane.. I would rather have a low grade first print....

Pro with low grade first prints there are very very far from few that anyone would  at this point sell. Mid range to lower are very scare in first print. Even if we were to see a say a 4-5.0 those would most certainty be up around 7-9k without a doubt.

It sold for just over $6K with sales tax.

Not bad I was spot on.. Collectors have to realise it’s a 2nd print so any expectations of a 9.6 going over let’s say  9-10k will eventually happen but for the most part the first print is always going to be the Gorilla in the room and why there is so limited qualities and so much demand for that Action Comics #1 of the copper age..

Some people just love to hate what they don't like or understand.  Sadly it's become human nature of ignorance and frankly, It's quite silly.  It's like the turtles ninja kicked him in the gonads or something and he has a personal mission to tear down their popularity.  Pretty easy to see how the Turtles are still popular today if you open your eyes and listen (actively listen) to what others say about them.

That’s it let the hate flow through u haha

This is an interesting situation tbh. Because there’s another 8.5 sitting at $20K best offer. So have to wonder if that’s going to put a cap on what this will sell for, although that logic doesn’t always apply. I’ll say around $17K.

I was def thinking the same thing 17-17500 buuuuuuut yah never know

I picked up a deal on a first print last week so you can still find deals. Id try to get a nice raw second print at one of the auctions over something with cream pages. Even if you have to pay a little bit more it could be worth it.

Pop culture sensation doesnt mean the people buying neca figures right now are going to fork over 40-50k for a 9.6 TMNT 1. There's a very small pool of buyers at that level and for 40-50k theyre going to look at other books that have been proven over time. Id rather have a Fantastic Four 5 9.2 for 50k over a TMNT 1 9.6. TMNT 1 deserves a premium right now because its a hot book but this appears to be market manipulation hence the 79k fake sale on gpa. I spoke to someone else last night that has 6 copies ranging from 8.0 to 9.4. These are not strong hands holding these books except maybe the few people defending the book on here right now lol.

Again to add my two cents... Anyone who got in to buy a Tmnt 1 high grade of course it’s great to see prices hiking the way it is. But again throwing in a monkey wrench into the conversation because someone didn’t get a higher grade is pure jealousy nothing more.

I think most people (with the exception of Erol) understand economics and why you cant compare TMNT 1 to Superman 1!

On the contrary Charlie I know a lot about economics especially in comics and the prices from the past to present and what people were paying back when and present.

Comparing the decades it took a book to reach over 50,000 regardless of grade is irrelevant as Superman 1 nor Batman #1 achieved such a feet in its 35 yr age..

No, you are missing the point here...............if you had to choose between either selling a HG copy for $60K, let along $100K or having to dig deep deep (even deeper lol) into your pocket to pick one up for that same price point, which would you do.  hm

To compare TMNT 1 to Superman 1 is completely absurb, especially when one of these books has only 2 unrestored copies slabbed in CGC 8.0 as the highest graded copies, while the other book has a whopping total of 566 unrestored copies slabbed in CGC 8.0 or higher to date and still counting.  Hopefully, I don't need to tell you which book is which, but my bet is that by the time we see a third unrestored copy of Supes 1 in CGC 8.0 or higher, we'll have well over 800 copies and possibly even close to 1,000 copies of TMNT 1 in CGC 8.0 or higher.  (thumbsu

If u read my post properly  ud see I'm not comparing the history of Superman 1 to TMNT 1.. Im taking about the 35-36yr age that TMNT 1 has hit 70k well before Superman 1 in the span of 35yrs. 35yrs later 1939-1974 Superman 1 was not a 70k book let alone 20k.. So,if u want to debate on numbers there's the facts Jack... Superman 1 is king but in 35-36yrs old TMNT 1 is the winner.. Can't fight fate mate

Comparing TMNT to Superman 1....Haha in the words of Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder...”never go full person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point!!”

How long did it take Superman 1 to hit 70k????? Hmmm let that digest for a good long week while cause I’m pretty sure it took over 35+++yrs  while Tmnt 1 did that in 35.. As Ralphie once said ooooooooo!! 👏👏😳

Prices today like Superman 1 in 2010 were a drop in the bucket compare to what we will see 10yrs from now.. Shake and Bake that just happend!!!!

Cerebus #1 by a long shot and if you are referring to non-comic books, how about the first print of the Overstreet Price Guide as I believe both of these books came in at way less than a 3,000 print run.  :gossip:

Cerebus #1 does not have the fan base as Tmnt does from the cartons to the toys or Nickelodeon.. Cerebus is a niche book Tmnt 1 is a grail book big big difference..

You just said biggest property in the last 45 years, so im assuming you meant IP. There are also Star Wars comic books.

"Here's a ridiculous statement:  "None of those books you cited inflated in price by double after hitting the 36 year mark in the middle of a pandemic induced collectibles boom." Followed by name another pandemic

That was sarcasm and you made my point for me.

You mention how its the perfect storm for TMNT but its not just TMNT experiencing a price spike. There is serious asset price inflation which is spilling over into the collectibles market. Sports cards, magic cards, comics, toys...throw a dart and everything is spiking.  And it will come back down to earth.

Ur forgetting that Tmnt #1 first print is only 3250

And yes that is the limiting factor why it’s  fetching massive prices. Name another book from the 6070/80s that had a lower print run 🤔🤔🤔🤔 still waiting..........

You’re also not mentioning the real push behind all of this...the federal reserve printing machine. We’ve been printing money since 2008. We just shut down the entire US economy and were in a recession yet asset prices are still inflated and were almost back to all time highs. I had a high net worth individual who owed me 55k Ask if he could Go on a long term payment plan because the market dropped in March. He’s finally getting around to paying me off now that the stock market has regained all losses. If the stock market drops again you might see a 9.6 first print sell for 18k just like it did in March this year.

A 9.6 selling for 18k!!! while a 7.5 selling for 12,500 just this month.. Hold my soda while I eat my popcorn and wait for that massive collapse and drop lol

Easily the biggest in the last 45yrs? Bigger than Star Wars the biggest Ip of all time? Star Wars experienced a boom in 2012 thanks to the Disney catalyst and now prices (for toys) are normalizing after a small correction. Also I wasn’t familiar with the 36 year rule! None of those books you cited inflated in price by double after hitting the 36 year mark in the middle of a pandemic induced collectibles boom.

He never mentioned doubled he said was it a bad idea to invest in say Hulk 181 in 2010 at 36yrs old and so on.. Pandemic or not people have money regadless of what in life is happening..

True, but we've got thousands of collectors paying $200 - $1,000 for the variants of first appearances of characters printed in the past three years (or the past three months) who have done nothing.

Characters like Virus, Knull, Punchline, etc., etc., etc., are as nothing as it gets and there's just as much money combined in the bubbles over those books.

There are true market manipulations, speculations, and unsustainable hype all over this industry right now for characters with zero history or for issues which have no significance.

There's a $20,000+ variant of the 667th issue Spider-Man from 2011 that is valued based on literally nothing-at-all. But it's rare, right? Valuable-just-because-its-rare-and-no-other-reason is moronic, there will always be rarer books/cards/coins printed, all the way down to unique books, then they'll put gold on a unique book, then they'll make the whole book out of gold, then they'll dip the gold in platinum and then die cut the cover and place an actual radioactive spider in the center in lucite).  Rare-and-that's-all is the worst reason to buy anything.

TMNT is easily the biggest property in the past 45 years, possibly bigger than EVERY character since Spider-Man (58 years ago), and there will never be more than 3,300 first printings.  There are more than 3,300 copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 already CGC graded.

"Ninja turtles" are better known than Wolverine, and there are more copies of Incredible Hulk #181 already CGC graded 9.4 or higher than ALL of the CGC graded copies of TMNT #1.

TMNT #1 is the "perfect storm" of comic books - known low print, 36 years old, black cover, oversized book, not-sold-in-stores, reprinted immediately, household name, many movies and cartoons and toys, decades of popularity, all starting from one specific comic book.

Would it have been a bad idea to "invest" in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1998?  It was 36 years old.

Would it have been a bad idea to "invest" in Action Comics #1 in 1974?  It was 36 years old.

Would it have been a bad idea to "invest" in Incredible Hulk #181 in 2010?  it was 36 years old.

TMNT #1 is 36 years old.  Waiting for it to drop?  Good luck.

Brilliant way u put that.... Bravo!! Couldn't have written that better myself.. A person who purchased Action comics #1 in 1970 I believe payed 1500 for it back then. He said if it goes up to 10,000 in a decade or 2 he would be extremely happy.. Understatement and yet TMNT #1 first print is the lowest printed book of all time when u look at the popularity and the solid foundation it has takes for 36yrs.. You ain't seen nothing yet if u think the prices right now are high.. Hold onto ur first prints fellas it's about to go nuclear.. 👍💥
