I would look into Conservation (light Restoration which doesn’t receive the purple label when graded)
I am having a cover reattached right now, plus staples cleaned, on a GA book which will then grade out as Conserved (rather than Restored). I believe the timeline is faster versus extensive Resto.

My interest in the photo journal is because as you said im just getting into the golden age . Besides DC superheroes and EC horror i have no idea what is out there . Already because of this thread i started looking at a lot more titles. It’s like a whole new world has opened up from obscure superheroes to great sci fi covers .
Just wait til you discover Doll Man!
...the longer you hunt GA books, the more esoteric your tastes become 😉

One "mystery" to me...
- If Okajima herself signed her name, why is it sometimes spelled "Okagima" and other times "Okajima"?
- Yet the signatures all appear to be in the same handwriting. If the person signing the books were actually selling the books to Okajima, why wouldn't that person consistently spell her name right? And why would that person "code" her books?
-
I was hoping this 1943 Okajima book would go under the radar, as the bid price was quite low when it entered the live auction.
It didn't end up going totally under the radar, as the price escalated quickly in the live auction, but I'm still happy with the purchase.
I have several 1944 Okajima books, but this is the earliest by a significant margin. No camp codings, but a signature.
... Would 1943 be considered a "camp book" or a "camp era book"? Am I correct that some of the other camp books lack the codings as well (especially the earlier ones)?

A nice Ginger 4 CGC 5.0 is up on ebay for $2000 OBO
( a boardie is selling it so you might be able to get a slightly better deal over here.)
Only 2 have been graded higher.
Thanks for the heads up.
I couldn't resist... I jumped on it.
Looked too nice for the grade (plus WHITE pages )

I bought a couple of interior pages from Alex Saviuk. I still own the back cover, sorry not for sale. For years Alex didn't sell any art from the story. I think he still has some pages left, he is on Facebook.
Wow! Thanks for the lead... I will message him on Facebook.

I'm wondering if anyone knows where any of the art is located, from the 1989 graphic novel, The Amazing Spider-Man "Parallel Lives".
Cover, interior art, anything...

I will take 6 if you have 6 left.

Any more Okajima?

On your first random thought, I too thought that the AH panel pages went very high. When this was previewed, I was thinking that this would be a cost-effective way to add an AH WW to my collection (panel pages from 52, rather than WW proper, 7k max). Either AH has a rabid following or it could be as simple as AH + WW + Origin Story = straight cash homie.
(FWIW, I believe that the Alex Ross WW portrait was better bought than the AH panel pages.)
On your second random thought, that Cho cover was soft, but Harley on a bicycle wouldn’t be my first choice if I were to add a Cho art piece to the collection. Also, Harley’s hip & leg seems more Chun-Li (of the Street Fighter game) than the typical svelte Harley. Perhaps Cho’s art is softening, but I’m thinking this isn’t the right piece to confirm the trend.
On your fourth random comment, Alex Ross’ original seven in a circular pattern = 26k? Why not...
The AH seemed steep to me, too.
I am a Cho collector, and I agree that this piece’s result likely doesn’t portend a market trend.

As good a time as any to throw this out there -- here's my Space Detective #1, which I love, had it since '99. Any chance this marking could be that of a post-camp Okajima? Thanks for all opinions.
It doesn't look like any of the post-camp books I have. Mine are all marked "vertically" with the distributor marks. I'm not an expert though.

The Master Comics and Danger Adventure issues are legit. Not sure if it was ever confirmed if the sensation was legit or not the last time it was posted.
I took a chance on the Master Comics (marked as a camp book). We will see how CGC grades it.

The handwriting is absolutely different (and I've had to testify in court on handwriting), but a bigger clue would be that they didn't even spell it correctly. That looks like a "g" not a "j". If it were not for that, I'd wonder if it was just a different person in the store writing on it. In any case, that's a lot of money for such a raw low grade book.
I *think*, if I am remembering correctly, I’ve come across another Okajima where the ‘j’ looks like a ‘g’. Not certain though.

I didn’t realize there were fake Okajimas potentially floating around, have they ever appeared previously?

Not a forensic handwriting expert but the Sensation sure looks like a fake Okajima to me.
That’s what I was wondering.
Although the other book looked more like the normal handwriting.

I just bought another lower grade copy, but it seems like the kind of book I “need” two of 😊
