Man what a showing of killer pieces! The Bernie Wrightson’s Frankenstein illustrations were almost my favorites, but at the end of the day nostalgia wins, and FOR ME the best in show is: Steve Lawrence’s X-Men 102 slash by the great Dave Cockrum CAF Link Who knows what my childhood would have been like without Dave’s creations, would I have maintained my interest in comics without the dominos Dave tipped over with his contributions to the New X-Men? It’s hard imagine the X-Men without Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler!!! THANKS DAVE!

I didn't know Tradd Moore was old enough to have drawn a Beatles cover!

Boo on any auction procedure that ends simliar to Hakes Auctions.

It’s nice to hear from a dealer and an artist in regards to OAX. I have a hard time thinking of a show for comic artists and comic art dealers that would be better for their bottom line than this one! Talk about a very focused group of convention attendees. They are all there for your inventory not comics, not movie stars, not Funko Pop toys… the whole crowd is there to buy your stuff. I would think it would be as easy as falling off a log backwards to have a successful show. Kudos to Bill Cox for OAX, glad it was a success!

All the episodes pre and post the X-wing auction are awesome, the funniest is the season’s final episode, where Dave and Ryan have their wives on to talk about the x-wing auction… heehee

No spoilers here…. another great must listen! I enjoy all Dave’s podcasts, but these related to the X-Wing auction, it’s purchase and the auctioning of OA to fund the purchase are especially great… thanks Dave and Felix!!! Slight drift- My list of favorite X-Men stories has the X-Men Savage Land at the top spot (the Byrne/Claremont story of course).

Seems off to me as well, if the results were reversed it would make more sense. Perhaps it’s the fact Frank Miller crossed over into the Hollywood world - that puts more sizzle on his name, or the fact that DD was solely his vision and not a collaboration like Byrne/Claremont on X-Men. Frank Miller - Auteur (Stolen from Felix) may be the ultimate scale tipper for the big spenders. Both pieces are awesome BTW!!!

There are some many of the same type of pieces it seems like an individual’s collection, I was half expecting to see a “from the collection of” attributation on these. The conventional logic says these should be spread across multiple auctions… or maybe it is, and these are just part of the collection?!?

Cartoony style covers are hard for me to place a high value on, but I don’t dislike em. Scottie Young does have quite an enthusiastic following.

Michael sorry to hear of your bad experience with this dealer. I found that greed sometimes shows itself through a phony personalty… seems like this guy didn’t even bother with the phony personality! Glad you stuck around… probably took you a while to attempt another trade.

WAKE UP... IT"S AUCTION DAY!!!!

Man that is a tricky page… a special issue with such an fantastic artistic pairing Byrne and Perez, fresh to market and as hyper detailed as you can get (the Perez factor) BUT no Sups or Wonder Woman. Maybe throw it on Heritage and see where the chips fall BUT without heroes would it be worth it after subtracting ALL their fees? That’s a tough call. The “yeah but” pages are very unpredictable. Hopefully, you’ll get some good offers via DM! I’m sure you’ll get a few.

Great idea... I found my new OA shipping box:

I dropped a package off at a big 3 shipper. When the clerk handed it to his coworker to process, she looked a the insurance on the label and excitedly asked the coworker “what kind of drawing is it?!? It’s insured for big money!” I wasn’t feeling too good that my package wasn’t going to be unwrapped for a peak at best and at worst, “strange I don’t know what happened to your package.. luckily you were insured.’ My story ended well, I was relieved when it arrived unharmed to its destination. I hate the shipping labels (showing costs) tend to make it a target all the way to its destination. We are dealing with human nature and that human nature is becoming less impressive with each passing day.

I wonder how often the highly insured value packages are lost at the shipping facility vs low insured value packages …. I would love to see those stats from various carriers.
