The Best of 2023 submissions are open!!!!

VOTING IS OPEN! I worked my way through each of the categories and got all of my votes in, congrats to all the owners of these fine pieces, there were a lot of gems posted. -
Hopefully, the new owner isn’t a dealer who decides to fix it by replacing the stat with a new one: “Legion of Superheroes #1”

New podcast/video from Felix Comic Art (UPDATED 1/3/17!)
gumbydarnit replied to Nexus's topic in Original Comic Art
All the episodes pre and post the X-wing auction are awesome, the funniest is the season’s final episode, where Dave and Ryan have their wives on to talk about the x-wing auction… heehee -
New podcast/video from Felix Comic Art (UPDATED 1/3/17!)
gumbydarnit replied to Nexus's topic in Original Comic Art
No spoilers here…. another great must listen! I enjoy all Dave’s podcasts, but these related to the X-Wing auction, it’s purchase and the auctioning of OA to fund the purchase are especially great… thanks Dave and Felix!!! Slight drift- My list of favorite X-Men stories has the X-Men Savage Land at the top spot (the Byrne/Claremont story of course). -
Seems off to me as well, if the results were reversed it would make more sense. Perhaps it’s the fact Frank Miller crossed over into the Hollywood world - that puts more sizzle on his name, or the fact that DD was solely his vision and not a collaboration like Byrne/Claremont on X-Men. Frank Miller - Auteur (Stolen from Felix) may be the ultimate scale tipper for the big spenders. Both pieces are awesome BTW!!!

There are some many of the same type of pieces it seems like an individual’s collection, I was half expecting to see a “from the collection of” attributation on these. The conventional logic says these should be spread across multiple auctions… or maybe it is, and these are just part of the collection?!?

Oops I just zoomed into the wolverine cover - his claws are popped… now it’s undervalued ; )

Cartoony style covers are hard for me to place a high value on, but I don’t dislike em. Scottie Young does have quite an enthusiastic following.

Seems like Alex Ross may be losing a bit of steam (in this auction at least) Crisis on Multiple Earths #4 Superman vs. Captain Marvel Cover Original Art (DC, 2006) Alex Ross Amazing Spider-Man #790 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 2017)

Michael sorry to hear of your bad experience with this dealer. I found that greed sometimes shows itself through a phony personalty… seems like this guy didn’t even bother with the phony personality! Glad you stuck around… probably took you a while to attempt another trade.

Byrne/Perez page from Action 600, advice needed
gumbydarnit replied to catrick339's topic in Original Comic Art
Man that is a tricky page… a special issue with such an fantastic artistic pairing Byrne and Perez, fresh to market and as hyper detailed as you can get (the Perez factor) BUT no Sups or Wonder Woman. Maybe throw it on Heritage and see where the chips fall BUT without heroes would it be worth it after subtracting ALL their fees? That’s a tough call. The “yeah but” pages are very unpredictable. Hopefully, you’ll get some good offers via DM! I’m sure you’ll get a few. -

I dropped a package off at a big 3 shipper. When the clerk handed it to his coworker to process, she looked a the insurance on the label and excitedly asked the coworker “what kind of drawing is it?!? It’s insured for big money!” I wasn’t feeling too good that my package wasn’t going to be unwrapped for a peak at best and at worst, “strange I don’t know what happened to your package.. luckily you were insured.’ My story ended well, I was relieved when it arrived unharmed to its destination. I hate the shipping labels (showing costs) tend to make it a target all the way to its destination. We are dealing with human nature and that human nature is becoming less impressive with each passing day.

I wonder how often the highly insured value packages are lost at the shipping facility vs low insured value packages …. I would love to see those stats from various carriers.

We are on page two and no one has talked economics. I play the part of the demographics guy... "We only have a short window before everyone dumps thier collections." Who's the bubble will pop guy? He usually has a good graph. Then there's the fininacial guy, who starts saying all the big words that I don't understand.. "Overleveraged... Profit to Earnings Ratio...33 Trillion in Debt... Historically Gold is a where you want to be .. there or Pokemon cards." Come on get it together!!!

Interesting, not the case for me, plenty of pieces that are exciting (art wise), but their prices … not so much.

Today, it’s funny to think snipping was such a big deal, but I guess back then it was a new concept, because in the world of bidding in real world auctions the underbidder has the opportunity to up his offer. So bidders brought that mindset to eBay but with that hard auction end, users like me thought, why continue to drive the price up and give other bidders a chance to consider placing a higher bid? I and the others snippers would all throw in their max bid during the last few seconds and see who walks with the piece. It was very jarring to the traditional auction bidders. The anger was understandable because it was against the norms of the time.
