  1. “Valued at $200 and who knows how much higher it’s value will go.” The person who wrote this flyer wouldn’t believe us if we told him!
  2. DOH! I would have also been on that Byrne Wolverine page, I always assume pieces will go too high so I stopped keeping an eye on auctions, maybe I need to start paying attention again. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!
  3. For a hair under 4 million you could own Charles Schultz studio, looking at the pictures it seems like a great place to be creative. Article- https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/cartoonist-charles-schulzs-sonoma-county-abode-lists more cool photos on zillow (50) - https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/Sebastopol-CA-95472/15804859_zpid/
  4. Man my heart goes out to you, must be sooo darn hard to deal with. Hope they catch the thief and throw him/her under the jail.
  5. Alex- the thread is a great resource, thanks for all your hard work!
  6. Great episode Felix, you're killing it as always! It's always cool to hear from those who were there at the beginning of our hobby - outstanding stories and you were only scratching the surface!
  7. Byrne wolverine v Sabertooth con sketch… er “speciality illustration”.. was strong as well!
  8. Yeah- “Hey my Sal Buscema is a bargain compared to his brother John… look at how much this John Buscema Surfer commission cost. This Sal Hulk page is a real bargain! It’s the little bro discount I’m after hun.”
  9. I wonder what the takeaway from day 3 of the auction will be. The feature auction take away- Molly Hatchet fans have LOTS OF MONEY! Perhaps the buyer will add the trade dress to make it even more valuable for a future flip…
  10. Wait an minute… you hedge the truth a bit to your spouse?!? You’re the first collector I ever heard so that ; )
  11. COME ON BATMAN…were you asleep at the batmobile wheel?!? Gotta say that would look pretty awesome out on a display shelf!
  12. Thanks to everyone for sharing their views when people get talking about money it can get a bit touchy, but it’s nice to hear everyone’s thoughts (a pretty wide and varied range of opinions). We are definitely seeing a shift happening over the last couple of auctions and we all are trying to process what that means to the hobby in general and specifically to our personal collecting. I always enjoy the big auction week flurry of posts! TODAY IS THE DAY! To quote that famous Heritage auctioneer - “The more you bid the more it’s worth!” BID BID BID! or do as I do WATCH WATCH WATCH!
  13. I’m not cheering for anyone’s losses, however the silver lining might be, a downward trend for valuations will cause some of the investor types to look elsewhere for returns and we could end up in a place where comic art prices are more in line with where collectors (not investors) think they should be, probably wishful thinking. For example, I think the results for the two Miller pages (Ronin and Daredevil) still seem to be way above where they should be.
  14. I would sign that, in a heartbeat, make it 10-15 years no problem! I’m not trying to build a financial empire I just want more cool art from my favorite artists.
  15. I had a collector contact me who was putting a book back together, of which I had a page. He said hey man let me know if you’re not open for a trade deal and I’ll have to scrap the idea of trying to the putting the book together (giving me a minor guilt trip). I traded him the page. Fast forward just a few months, and a couple of his pages from that book were up for sale on a dealers site. Not painful tho, because I preferred the page I that received in return. Obviously, he wasn’t as committed to putting the book back together as he claimed to be Here’s an odd story- I bought a commission. Then a few years later I was browsing eBay and there it was up for sale - the exact same commission (a print out I presume). I sent the seller an extreme close up of mine showing the pencils and ink variations. He “didn’t know what happened”and he took the commission down. Yes, I did report the item to eBay as fraudulent. It’s a weird feeling to see a commission that you own being sold on eBay!
  16. Dr Doom, of course it’d take an evil genius to land this stellar piece such as this! Pure Big John pencils WOW!
  17. When the dust settles and the final bids are in on the next heritage auction. If you strip nostalgia away and look at art for its aesthetic value put their 12k 8k pieces up against Tradd’s 12k 8k art and I think you’ll find Tradd's work will stand up to those pieces at the same price points and may even surpass them. I think that the lovers of Tradd’s art really do feel that his work is superior to the other options at those price points. “They buy what they love.” The number one rule of comic art. Of course if you don’t love Tradd artistic style, you’ll think the prices are way too high, which is fine we all have differing tastes. That’s what makes the hobby great. Disclosure - I’m a Tradd fan!
  18. If you landed one of the coveted Dr Stange pages from the drop, how cool is it that you can scrub through the podcast and hear Tradd discussing his thoughts on your very page!
  19. Thanks Felix for another great podcast! It was incredible to watch Tradd talk about each page in this impressive issue, his stylistic evolution is fun to watch. He’s always exploring and pushing the envelope of his style, no wonder he has such a rabid following. Also CONGRATS on a quick complete selliout of the issue on his art drop!!!
  20. This is not the ho hum auction like the last HA auction was, so we should get a better gauge of the market direction. To add to the excitement of this auction, there is a lot of fresh to market Byrne/Austin X-Men and Starlord plus a wonderful Cap page… WOW! Now that is pure Byrne goodness and should make the consigner(s) verrry happy!
  21. I think everyone is taking notice, it’s a relief to see prices that seem to be heading in a more reasonable direction… it might not last, but for now we have a bit of hope!
