Good luck. About 7 years ago I went to one near the University of Washington (which has a beautiful campus BTW), but I cannot remember the name. I thought it was pretty decent. I wound up actually finding a few SA and BA books I thought were priced reasonably and bought them. I realize that is pretty useless for you. But looking at the few the university I couldn't deduce which one it was (they may have renovated), but they all look like pretty nice shops. Seattle looks like a pretty good place for comic shops based on the map. All they do is close around me. But maybe with commercial rents dropping some might be able to come back.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I dunno, you guys spend a lot of time looking into this stuff. There seem to be fewer of them on ebay, that's why I thought maybe there were fewer, but I did not spend a lot of time looking. -

I have a bunch of #4... buying after everything had fizzled. but they were 65 cents each, so no biggie. I can add that to my collections of Skullkickers 2 and 3s, Mind the Gap, Manhattan Peroject, Mind Mgmt, Todd, Thief of Thieves, and a few others I bought for nothing knowing the title had cooled and figuring sometimes things come back. Which reminds me, i need to dig up my copies of Fear Agent 1 I bought for the same reason. -

The sales prices I see on SWHR seem to be no better (and maybe worse) than those for the ASM 55 black cover, don't get me wrong, $10-$15 or so + s/h for a brand new book is good, just saying, it seems supply was slightly outstripped by demand, but folks aren't going nuts. if it had been 150K we might see them at cover price. the #1 popping for all covers creates some buzz. buzz that would be zapped were they selling for $5. I take it this introduces a bunch of new characters who may turn out to be something. we shall see. -

How many readable pages are there? I guess if there are 64 that would not be a bad price Of course, to the speculator that is meaningless as the only time a high cover price might help with speculation is if something big happens in the book and it wasn't ordered due to the high price -

There are like 150 fewer titles coming out than a few years ago, so I guess it makes sense for there to be more big sellers than before -

I'm not saying it is "rare", there are always a few books a month that go over that. It does seem that DC trimming back the # of titles ought to result in some more six digit books. sales do seem to be picking up a bit. -

But that's a big number nowadays. And then they'll do a second print with 8 variants of 50K each. if they're smart, add 2 pages of additional stuff, so it's not a pure reprint. And then do a 2d print of the second print, 10 variant covers, 25K each.. -
Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
The Less Blob replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Yup, for sure. We saved a few grand last year on that (we joined a beach club, which was cheaper than a big vacation), plus no summer camp costs for my youngest, and we'll be doing the same this summer. Deferring any big travel to 2022 most likely. -

so he was carting around a few long boxes at a show and trying to sell them or did he have a piece of a table? I'm asking because I wonder if I could just go to NYCC with a couple of magazine boxes of $5-$10 books (if we ever have shows again), set up in one of the areas where people are sitting around, and sell my comics. or, better yet, have one of my kids do it while i enjoy the show. Even more amusing would be spending a day hunting through $1-$2 boxes, fill up 2 boxes with the best of my hunting, and then sell them as $5-10 books. People would see the books being sold this way and would probably think they're getting over on someone desperate. Frankly, I did this a few times as a kid, but it was more wandering around with a stack of comics and selling them to people. I did a great job of unloading most of my brother's Ditko spideys for him that way when i was 12, which he then spent on about a week of weed. I wish I didn't do such a great job as I wound up getting his comic collection eventually. -

so someone dragged two long boxes of books to a show to get $140 for them? ouch. I guess you would have known if these were "fill a box for $50" books sold on the other side of the convention? -

this is true. comics. bars. strip clubs. restaurants and dating. great ways to evacuate money from one's bank account. -

I have not done a survey of incomes on this board, but I am going to guess the average household income of established members is [possibly well into] six figures. and yes, a lot of this has to do with the average age of boardies being about 48 and being mostly college educated professionals and those who are more blue collar running successful businesses, etc. but yeah, i agree, your average dude in the comic shop picking up his new books and maybe snagging a variant, probably not. -
2020 Spending On Comics
The Less Blob commented on comicginger1789's journal entry in A Collector's Chronicles
you're the one who asked about pressing. it is insane for a neophyte presser to work on expensive books. i think you understand that. you press junk ones to get practice. -
I was not aware of this either. really sad. it is why I make my youngest always wear a helmet and i do as well. My teen flat out refuses and it is very worrisome.

I was more thinking about this sort of person blowing their stimulus load on a $1500 comic as per my original post, but no doubt a $75K earning comic loving nerd who is not otherwise financially desperate who gets an extra $600 to blow probably does spend it bit by bit on fun and hobbies. I am just questioning the notion that these stimulus checks are fueling the spike in online sales. I think they are a piece of it (money is money), but there are a lot of other things pushing it and most likely pushing it more. Less spending on conventions makes sense, as does less spending on bars and strippers.... -
I think it explains why my son loved the deadpool stuff so much. I bought him a big stack of trades for christmas one year (50% off at Milehigh was actually a good deal.. it happens) and he was like a p**g in sh***t because while not entirely self contained, you could just drop into those books and read them. deadpool isn't so complicated.

"I don't know if you've noticed, but there seems to be a lot of Golden, Silver, and Bronze Age collectors that hate modern comics. I personally enjoy comic stories from all eras except for the Platinum Age (although I haven't read any from that era). Anyway, which current creators would you try to use as examples to convince old farts that all eras of comics have good in them. One artist that comes to mind for me is Rafael Grampa." Sweeping generalization. Probably only true for a few people suffering from their own mental illness. I'm an old fart who loves a lot of the covers I see. The problem is the insides are sometimes less inspiring and stories are often so darn convoluted I just give up... and the last 30 years of cannon have just made it incomprehensible between marvel and DC. That's why when I found myself reading stuff it was titles like Goon and Fables that were kind of self contained. Give me a spiderman or wolverine story that doesn't require me to know WTF has gone on over the last 30 years and I am cool.

I was 270-13. For the better part of the ebay era I think my selling/buying has been about a wash and possibly I sell more than I buy, but from 1993 - 1999 it was nearly all just buying.
