  1. Ok, 10 years ago, I am cheating. So my shop had the variant up top for $10, couldn't sell it at $8 either, gave up, and I scooped out of the dollar box for either $1 or 15 for $10. I guess it sells for $40-50 now, but I don't see a lot of them.
  2. you sold it too cheap, everyone else has their's at $680! a raw 9.2 sold for $350 a week earlier. pretty wild. it is a cool cover...
  3. It sounds like Canadians have turned into terrible people during the pandemic. I can only hope that $4 a gallon gas puts them in a better mood. (Although prices around here went down a little last week.)
  4. how does someone who just entered the hobby know how to properly press a book? sounds like a good way to turn 9.6 into a 9.2
  5. OK, I think the point of this is more about your under $150 type books in NM or less, more expensive stuff, 9.6 and 9.8 grades that make grades explode, i think is more for genuine encapsulation. voldy does some sort of resto check, which is nice. sure, there can still be fraud.
  6. I believe if folks acted like that in the USA many store owners would threaten to exercise their Second Amendment rights on them.
  7. I'm not really getting bidders like that much. I actually almost had the same scenario...I think i listed it as 9.2-9.4 and was asked if it could be a 9.6... and I said I didn't think it could be in light of my grade ... but the exchange was very polite and I think they bought it anyway. In this market how can these quick flippers stand waiting 3 or 4 months?
  8. is there any evidence that the backlog of submissions is newbies who have come into the hobby in the last year or is is the heroic jsilverjanets of the world making a ton of submissions to keep up with the demand from these speculators? I don't think too many folks popping in to flip books are going to wait 6 months to get books back or risk the money on fees when they are clueless as to grading.
  9. I am talking about buyers feeling comfortable.. if buyers feel comfortable, sellers have more liquidity.. in theory. This is a big reason why CGC is in business. why does an MCS VF sell at the top end for VFs? Because folks feel comfortable with the grade.
  10. I guess. I tend to like stuff that has been published, though I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at anything. I was big on OA like 15 years ago, but, unfortunately, had to sell a lot of my best stuff about 7-10 years ago to pay bills. I still have a lot, but the kirby, starlin, buscema, colon and others got sold.
  11. yeah, because decent OA (and even not so decent) is not 800% more expensive than it was 10 years ago too. of course, "decent" is very subjective, but anything decent from guys we would have thought as of second or third tier BA artist is way up too, just not necessarily in the last year
  12. i would be so ticked off if stan did that to my 129... if i had a 129...
  13. On the other hand, legalized marijuana in Florida might slow down processing of CGC submissions and result in more wacky stuff winding up inside of slabs and mislabels and pizza stains on books, based on my experience...
  14. No, not really. sometimes. Thor 339 is an example. Raws in nice shape are $15-20-25 or so. so not worthless at all. slabbed 9.4s sell for about $50. Not really worth grading. 9.6ses are $80-100. So maybe worthwhile. 9.8s $150-200+...worth it. I have a stack of them. I have been considering sending some in along with some other books for a 9.6 or better pre-screen. Yes, will potentially spending an extra $15 for 5 of them dissuade me? I dunno, maybe not.
  15. I think voldemort has an interesting idea with their "raw" product... if they could have a somewhat more solid sleeve and a more tamper proof/evident sealing method... putting aside crazy prices for 9.8s, I think a lot of people just want to feel more comfortable that something is actually a NM or NM- and not an "ebay" NM...so, basically, a 6.5-7.5 or a SA book is actually a VF...
  16. between my day job, ebay, and adjuncting, I need a 4th job to shut my wife up because she has 4 jobs, I wonder if they can train a junior grader to do New York submissions? I might have to clean up my comic cave a bit and make sure not to have too many half drunk cups of coffee sitting around. for now they should limit me to copies of power pack, dakota north, and nfl super pro while I get the hang of it.
  17. yes... but I suppose the book can get past the initial pre-screen and they catch something later that results in it getting into the reject pile if you have books that only make financial sense to slab if they come back a 9.6 or 9.8 it makes sense to go this route and not throw money away. or maybe SA books where you really need an 8.0 or whatever. but you have to send 25 (?) in as a pre-screen. So if you get it right on 15, but not on 10...the old reject cost would be $50, now it is $80.
  18. you are a sneaky new yorker robbing hard working americans with your numbers trickery...
  19. i don't want to hear from you canadians with your cheap college for your kids and not having to worry about healthcare, those of us to the south need to scrounge every penny we can for our old age
  20. sorry, but virtual professionals who submit a ton of books here are often wrong between 9.6 and 9.8 and 9.6 and 9.4, it isn't so much about "learning"
  21. The pre-screen is a 37.5% hike. The other stuff is more modest (15% or so) and can be justified more in that there haven't been some hikes for a while, so 5 years of 2-3% inflation, etc. They're going to get fewer pre-screens. But maybe they want that.
  22. I am not holding my breath that this will actually happen by 2026.
