  1. What's your source for this? Steranko said in a 1975 interview that he knew Gulacy personally and liked his work. https://ohdannyboy.blogspot.com/2012/06/david-bowie-as-black-widow-jim-steranko.html
  2. Mike's Amazing World has page counts for the hundred most prolific pencillers/inkers/artists. http://www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/creator.php?page=topcreators
  3. Layouts would just loosely indicate what should go where. Breakdowns would be tighter and more detailed. link
  4. Someone must have found Steranko's Hulk imperfect, because the face was redrawn by Marie Severin. The original face turned up wnen British Marvel recycled the cover.
  5. Gambit's first published appearance was in the annual, although I don't think it was intentional that the annual was published before Uncanny X-Men #266. I think he first appeared on the twelfth page of the story in the annual.
  6. According to GCD, Moore's contribution is a just a re-coloured reprint from Doc Stearn... Mr Monster #3
  7. This seems to be Eric Philips' only credit on GCD. Was he a pseudonym for Brian Bolland?
  8. Here's the part of the page with the woman in question: And here's the full page:
  9. MTU #141 is tied with Spectacular Spider-Man #90 for second black costume.
  10. I was just going by what it says on GCD. The comic's credits just say S. Buscema, A. Alcala, S. GraInger Artists. By eye, I'd say the first four pages are definitely Alcala, and the sixth page onwards and the Cap close-up on the fifth page (numbered page 6 above, as they were counting ad pages) are definitely not Alcala. Personally, I prefer the Alcala pages, although superheroes were never his forte. I don't see any Hulk, atrocious or otherwise - do you mean the Thing?
  11. Alcala only worked on the first four pages, The posted page is Sal Buscema breakdowns with finished art by Grainger.
  12. JR Sr seems plausible. Another favourtite Hulk image of mine is Trimpe's back cover for the 1975 Marvel Annual. The front cover by Ron Wilson was used for a value stamp, but with the face from the back cover pasted over it. link
  13. Herb Trimpe drew a similar pose on the 1976 Marvel Annual's cover.
  14. GCD has a British pence version of Sgt Fury #167. Link
  15. Here's the original version of the multi-artist pin-up, from Marvel Treasury Edition #5.
  16. I've no idea why they've given so much space to PM (Pablo Marcos. I think). Apart from Mighty World of Marvel covers for British Marvel, I don't remember him ever drawing the Hulk.
  17. Brian Bolland's cover to Hulk Comic #1 met a similar fate.
  18. The face in the corner box is probably Sal's original, and the pasted over version on the paperback is probably by Romita. Incredible Hulk #220 uses the latter face on a subscription ad, alongside Spider-Man and Captain America faces, also seemingly by Romita.
  19. It's from page 1 of Incredible Hulk #215 by Sal Buscema and Ernie Chan.
  20. Frank Robbins drew the Hulk in Ghost Rider #12, a one-panel flashback to GR #11, which Sal had drawn.
  21. The bottom image is page 4 of Warlock #4 by Kane.
