Again, maybe. But look at my pence threads here as an indicator of interest - very little feedback from the community, which I accept and understand.  The majority of contributors are from my neck of the woods, or my board pals just being kind. I've been here two years now and not one US collector in all that time has said "cool, I need me a set of them!" That doesn't indicate an increasing interest in the books to me. I've been reading and hearing that the pence books will be more appreciated for years. It's like the latest cure for type 1 diabetes - always five years away, never comes.

AF15,  Hulk 1 etc - they may well go up, because of their importance. The rest?  I'm not so sure. I certainly hope so though. But rarity is not always a guarantee of financial prominence. If there is no, or a limited market for pence copies, there will be no price parity with cents copies, let alone the greater prices that pence books should in theory command given their comparative scarcity.

For the record, I'm not that fussed about value and keep only a passing interest in financial trends, so others who do may have a different view / story to tell. It suits me for prices to be lower,  as that means I can buy books reasonably for research purposes. My interest is what exists, what doesn't, and why. If all I leave behind when I die is the most comprehensive summary of US first printing pence priced books for every known publisher, I'll be happy.  Oh, and Miller variants. And that font stuff. And AUS price variants. And the 1999/2000 US price variants. In fact, all those little variations that so few care about :)

Well I’m US and just bought my second one so maybe it will change ;-)

Eternals #1 CGC 9.6 White Pages!  The story of Thanos people started right here and this is confirmed as the next big Marvel Movie franchise that is expected to be further teased/lead into from the next Avengers/Thanos movie!  This is a near perfect investment grade copy (I see no reason why it could not get 9.8?) with White Pages!  90 day GPA is $283 with prices rising fast across the board, offered Below GPA at just $275 and only $9 USPS Priority shipping.

There is no "eventually". Hulk 180 IS RECOGNIZED as the first appearance of Wolverine. A cameo 1st appearance, on the last page in one panel.

This appearance was a complete surprise. There was no build up to Wolverine's appearance. The story isn't about nor does it lead up to Wolverine's appearance.

Hulk 181 is a done deal. It's the most desirable book. Wolverine's full appearance The entire story is about Wolverine, he's not just on the cover but he's on a iconic, classic & widely imitated cover.

Hulk 180 continues to increase in value just like 181. But it is never, ever closing the gap and going to be worth the same or more.  And there's no real reason to debate. Just buy both. If you can afford a 181 you can most certainly afford a 180.

We’re geeks.  Debating stuff that isn’t important like it is important is what we do

Seems like the value of 181 would have to be pretty close to stagnant if 180 ever reaches that high of a percentage. I personally could never see that happening. People would just skip over 180 and buy 181 at that price point.

Maybe maybe not... 80% may be a bit high.  Point is there is a lot of room for growth as the book is priced out for normal people.  As that happens 180 is going to be a natural choice.

I get your point, and I'm not sure what the future holds, but the growth on Hulk 181 has been insane in recent years. Don't get me wrong, Hulk 180 is still a great book to invest in. I just don't see the value of Hulk 181 being stagnant while 180 tries to play catch up.

Not stagnant.  But a faster growth rate.  It's doubtful 180 will ever match 181, but if it, for example, ended up being 75-80% of the cost, I wouldn't be surprised.

People say, “There are so many out there, and Stan signs everything!” Fair enough, but does anyone here posting or replying on this thread, have a Highest Graded Signature Series Signed Stan Lee Comic in which Stan Lee was the writer, and if so how many do you issues like that do you own? If you own a Highest Gradef Signature Series Stan Lee Comic, is it a Key or a Mega Key? I have another question. If you own a High Grade Mega Key, that is Signed by Stan Lee, have you checked the Census to see how many are graded Higher, than yours and the rarity of your book signed? Granted Stan Lee Signatures are everywhere and that part I get, but is what you have signed, “Rare” with the Signature as well, if so that even doubles the rarity of your book. Final Question for people that make the argument that there are so many out there they won’t be worth anything make. For people/ collectors who do in fact have Highest Grade Signed Stan Lee books or Signature Series books with less than 5 Signed Graded Higher, do you really think my Signed books won’t have any significant added value, even though there are only a few or none graded higher than mine with Stan on the cover? I’m just curious! Thanks.

GOing out on a limb... I'm guessing you have a top of the census Stan Lee signed book?

TMNT #1 is not like any of the other books, since only 3,275 were printed.  Even if every single copy could somehow get CGC graded, that would be 3,725.  The other books listed (not AF #15) passed that number years ago.

That's fair as well.  Even the Second Print is on that level as well.

God I want a TMNT #1.  That and AF15 are my two biggest REALISTIC grail books (I don't consider Tec 27 a realistic book at this time for me).

Agreed I could see TMNT #1, NM #98 and Star Wars #1 also following down the same path like Hulk #181 and AF#15.

Not because they are super rare, but the demand for those 5 books TMNT #1, NM #98,Star Wars #1,Hulk #181 and AF#15 continues to grow.

ASM 129 is another.  I've seen a lot of movement on that.  Not Hulk 181 level but still.

Depending on the location of the staple, I would be concerned about pressing as it may make the staple tear worse. That's the bad thing about a tear, it can only get bigger. Without a pic, I am assuming the staple is not on the vertex. Personally, I would not risk it but you really didn't give us much info here. A pic would help.

Don't have it back yet, just saw it on the submissions.   I'll post it back up after I actually get it back but yeah... that's a good point on the tear and pressing.  I might just decide to keep as is.

The better way to phrase your question would be "what is the best grade a book could receive with a small staple tear?"

The problem answering is that a small staple staple tear might be 1/16", 1/8", 1/4".  Small isn't very descriptive.  It is also a mistake to conclude that the grading notes represent every possible flaw a book has. The grading notes are the flaws that the graders took the time to list.

I've sent in books with a "small" staple tear and seen grades as high as 9.2.  In the past, people on these forums have posted up pictures of 9.8's and 9.6's with noticeable staple tears. But there has been much discussion that those tears probably occurred AFTER said books were encapsulated from the book being jostled around by handling and shipping  (the so called Shaken Comic Syndrome)

If the staple tear is no more than say 1/8" and the finger bends don't break color, pressing and resubbing might get a better grade. There are never any guarantees though.

    Thanks!
