Thanks @Mr. Zipper! If that's a real sig, @PMminer, that is a RIDICULOUSLY COOL book. Back to grading- You might want to ask CGC to give it a Universal label where they treat the signature as a defect and NOT as a Qualified label. Normally in that situation, that would knock a couple grade points off, so you would have to gauge whether you prefer a 8.5-9.0 green label vs a 6.5-7.0 blue label. But seeing as the book is already in that 1.5-2.5 range? I don't know how many points (if any) that CGC will knock off for the sig. So you might want to roll the dice and just ask them to grade it as a blue label Universal. Hopefully others who know more than me will chime in.

WHOA. FYI, that sig could be real. Cover sigs by Kirby are super-rare (and most often fake) - but that sig is similar to how Jack Kirby used to sign his autograph pre-1970. @James J Johnson @Mr. Zipper - your thoughts on the sig?

I recommend against sending Kirbys into them for verification. Since Beckett took over, they've been terrible at correctly verifying Kirby sigs. You'd be better off keeping your book raw, or taking quality photos of the sigs, print them out, and then send the book to CGC instead. Keep the photos with the slab.

WOW. NICE. Yeah, that wasn't signed at the same time. With the way his signature changed over his lifetime, I'm guessing that your Avengers 1 was signed sometime before the FF 10, but that's just a guess of mine. James J Johnson or Mr Zipper would know more. Yup, Ozonetv is right. If you request to not slab your book if it doesn't pass verification, they send it back with a sticker on the bag that says REJECT. If you tell Voldemort to slab the book even if the sig doesn't pass verification, their blue label will say: "Jack Kirby signature (on 1st page) unverifiable by BAS". Respectfully, totally disagree. Ozonetv's two books look like Jack - not Roz. This is a photo someone posted on the boards here a few years back. You can see the top sig is Jack - the bottom two sigs are (most likely) Roz- Can't believe Beckett would think a Jack Kirby sig in a book with the PASSPORT BOOK SHOP stamp was sus. Yeesh... For what it's worth, my last two Kirby sig books I sent to Voldemort got rejected, too. Instead I took really good photographs of the signature, then sent the books to CGC to get slabbed. They'll get blue labels with "Jack Kirby written on page 1 in pen" on the label - then I'll keep photographs of the signature with the slab whenever I want to enjoy them. Now I just have to hope to get my Kirby books back from CGC sometime before 2023...

Yeah, your Kirby sig looks legit. Even though it sucks that Beckett screwed up, at least you still have an amazing sig. Voldemort used to have David Angelo Roman verifying Kirbys, and he really knows what he's doing. Unfortunately, Beckett has been absolutely TERRIBLE at correctly verifying Jack Kirbys - which is a shame since they used to be so good at it. Curious: your second book that did pass verification. Was the signature from the same era as the one you posted above?

NICE. I'm no expert, but these look legit to me. And being on X-Men keys, I can't even imagine how much they're probably asking for them. If you do get them, feel free to PM me and I can give you specific details as to why I think they're good.

@Yoda Master You probably already know so this advice may be DUH DUH, but I wanted to add to revat's info so that anyone reading this doesn't get confused- If you are going to crack your slab yourself, DO NOT CRACK IT OPEN UNTIL YOU ARE ACTUALLY IN FRONT OF CGC AT THEIR BOOTH. If you crack your yellow label book beforehand, you will lose your yellow label status.

In defense of Stan's signings- When he was a spry 80 year-old guy, his autographs were neat and sharp. Say what you want about him, but he used to be a comic book editor, so he knew the importance of making things pop visually. His signatures would get placed inside on page 1, or placed on the cover in negative space or somewhere that would look good and somewhat tidy. Like the ASM #129 or the ASM #200 posted earlier in the thread. But late in his life, his eyesight and hearing were terrible (as happens to most 90 year-olds). I'm gonna guess that most of those books where he signed his name over a character's face or over other people's sigs were in those last ten years of his life - 2009-2018 - when he could barely see. The ones from the end of his life are tough to look at - where he had trouble forming the "s" in Stan, or putting the two "e"'s in Lee next to each other. It's just too bad that there're so many of the late-in-life Stan sigs out there - and not more of the earlier nicer sigs.

Except for the big mail-in signings, right now you're going to have a hard time finding facilitators while we're still in a pandemic. My advice is to keep an eye on this website here- http://starwarsactorappearances.blogspot.com/ Then as appearances at shows return, come back to this forum and try to find CGC facilitators who will be attending those shows. If it was mine, I would just sell it as is, with the description info that the Kirby sig is most likely a Roz Kirby proxy-signature. Don't worry about what happens if it ever comes back onto market - you can only control what happens to it when it's yours. And don't put a pen through it. A Roz Kirby proxy-sig still has value, and, in my opinion, is still pretty cool. Whatever you choose to do, you're clearly an honest stand-up fellow who doesn't want anyone to get ripped off. You're a good dude - you'll be fine.
