  1. So I just pulled out one of the bulbs and apparently I switched these to LED soft whites several months ago and forgot until now haha.  So that is good i suppose

And yeah this office is in the basement with no windows or ways to see in.  If someone broke in and made their way down to my office I am sure they would take everything regardless of if things were on display or in a box, and I do buy these to look at and appreciate them (and they are all insured, so there's that I guess)

  2. So I have my books displayed in my office, no sunlight hits the room at all. I have standard halogen lights in there on most of the day.

All the slabs are in the E Gerber Mylite bags (say they protect against UV rays but 🤷🏻‍♂️)

In your guys’ experiences, are books in this environment and protection safe from fading or should I be rotating these out/putting them in a box?

  3. I would like to downgrade my ASM 14 in a 7.0. Hoping to get a nice copy in a 5 - 6.0 or so, plus the cash difference.

    Valuation: $7k*
    * we can figure out the payment difference depending upon the book offered for trade

    Rules:

    No hall of shame bois

    Will ship insured

    Payment by PayPal preferred

No returns on slab (unless damaged in the mail, but I do pack very well)

**if this type of thread is against the rules I’ll close it, I wasn’t sure on trade threads

I wouldn’t necessarily think that way unless you are dealing with someone with a proven track record selling books in that weight class. I get the notion of quantity for quality but this is quality for quality with a cash component and, I Suspect, easier liquidity for him. (Unless you know that I’m off on that point). I still see no justification for overpaying given all the separate elements involved in the deal.

    Makes sense, thank you.

and he has some pretty heavy inventory at his shop.  Lots of $50k+ books.

Is he putting your values above (11k ASM 1, 7k 14, 800 Flash 110) on the books? Does that mean he has the GSX 1 at $1,200 in the deal if you’re $5k short?

I think he’s a smidge high at 25, and I would think he’s doing the deal at least in part because he can sell the group of lower priced books somewhat more easily. Not every dealer has cultivated a customer base for $25k books.

He has the GSX at $3k. I’m basically taking a 2-3k loss I think but I think that comes with a trade like this.

Just curious you seem like a X-Men and Spidey guy why not either upgrade your ASM 1 or get X-Men 1?

    Something like this CGC 5.0:

I’ve transitioned to reading a ton of FF and gotten really engrossed in the stories. I have an FF5 and now and FF3 so I’m thinking with an FF1 I can really start working on a run

  7. So a have found a very nice 2.5 FF1.  It looks like I can trade for the vast majority, or potentially all of, the cost of the book.

    Currently in my pool is:

    A nice presenting ASM 1 2.0 (I value around $11k)

    ASM 14 7.0 ($7k)

    Flash 110 4.0 (maybe $800).

The seller (good seller, I like this shop) mentioned I am about $8k off or so.  I have some heavy hitters but am waffling on the idea.  Included in the 'heavy hitters' list is

    5.5 GSX 1

    7.0 Incredible Hulk 181

Both of these would feel pretty bad to trade away.  But FF1 is a massive book.  If I did trade either of the two X Books, I would want to re-acquire them at some point.  I purchased these a long time ago so am up quite a bit on my existing copies.

What do you all think?  Would you go all in on a trade like this?

  8. I mainly collect Spidey and Fantastic Four, both of these have been on my radar for a while.

I THINK the price on FF 52 is stable for a while, but rumors that there will be a Bernthal announcement at D23 are starting to pop up.

Ignoring the rumors, and pretending both books are on a stable price trajectory, which would you add to your collection first?

Grade I will be going for will be 5.0 - 7.0 for either.

Just based off of these images, I'm thinking that it's not rust.

Thanks! Yeah I’m thinking the same. Here’s a more zoomed in pic. The stuff looks to me like the same crud that’s on the cover by spidey’s head and the spot a quarter inch to the right of the staple.

The cover has a fair amount of staining as well so it’s likely the same stuff.

  10. Ok so, this staple is pretty shiny. Has some tarnish in the middle but not super dark. The problem is it’s detached from the cover so it’s kind of hard to see.

On the cover by where the staple is, there are some brownish spots but they don’t LOOK like migration to me, they look like some gunk on the cover. And that same gunk is also on a spot in the middle of the book, it matches exactly.

Thoughts? Notes say nothing about rust/light rust or migration.  I’m leaning toward the brown spots being crud on the cover (you can see a spot to the right of the staple that matches and is def not rust migration).
