  1. Ok so, this staple is pretty shiny. Has some tarnish in the middle but not super dark. The problem is it’s detached from the cover so it’s kind of hard to see.

On the cover by where the staple is, there are some brownish spots but they don’t LOOK like migration to me, they look like some gunk on the cover. And that same gunk is also on a spot in the middle of the book, it matches exactly.

Thoughts? Notes say nothing about rust/light rust or migration.  I’m leaning toward the brown spots being crud on the cover (you can see a spot to the right of the staple that matches and is def not rust migration).

The key is to cut along the weld which is about a quarter inch away from the the inner well and the book.

Oooh i didn’t know I don’t need to cut where the inner well is…’open’. Just inside the weld. TIL!

I’ve cracked a few books before, didn’t know I could cut that far away from it

I was going to comment to 'go for it' when I saw the post you made last night when you said you needed it but did not want to anyone to think it was a threadcrap or interfering.  It's a fair price for both buyer and seller and if you hang on to it you will be glad you bought it sooner rather than later.   Spider-man is Marvel's flagship character and really has the best gallery of villains. The Green Goblin is the "joker" of this title.

Congrats to both buyer and seller.

Thank you! I’m selling my recent big purchase to fund this but I just could not pass it up, and @jbpezhas been super fair.

I am trying to complete some runs... Avengers 1 - 200 is an example. For the big books, I get the best I can afford. For the filler books, I try to maintain a VF minimum and I would drive myself crazy with that. It's gotten to the point where I've eased up a bit. I'm not going to agonize as to whether an Avengers 168 is a 7.5 or an 8.0. I just can't do it anymore... life is too short.

I agree, and have also started on the Avengers run (I only have number 1 so far lol) and the older the books the less concerned I am with the grade.  I just want to own some history.

  5. I have slowly become less OCD about my books, especially big Silver Age or older books.  Page quality, small tears, stains that do not affect the primary art work, etc do not bother me like they used to which feels quite freeing and opens up a lot of options for me as I expand my collection.

There are some things I try and avoid still, like random names on cover or tape (and rusted staples are right out), but going for a nice CR/OW Silver Age with a couple light stains would have been an absolute pass for me a couple years back.

I focus on overall presentation and eye appeal now.

    What about you guys?

I’d say it maxes at 6 but cleaned up likely a 5.5.  If the value difference is worth it for half grade (which I think it is) up then do it.

im not an expert on clean though, nor do I know how much pressing might be needed.

but if you’re cracking it out anyways, post on the Please Grade my Comic subforum and solicit opinions first

Maybe it will be worth it. I’m not sure if a dry clean would lift that spot on the front. From the scan it looks like it is either dirt or grease and I’m not super familiar with dry cleaning tbh

  7. I ordered a 5.0 ASM 3 yesterday, notes say ‘soiling on cover’. It’s not here yet in hand but I have a good scan, looks like a dirt smudge or something. (By docs leg)

is this kind of thing worth sending in for a clean? It’s not graded by cgc and I want to get it in a Spidey label at some point.

It displays so well that I don’t care really, just want to see if I could get a potential grade bump if I crack and send it to cgc with a clean and press.
