I remember the thread...I'm thinking 10+ years ago. At that time, I am pretty sure he said he had recently came across the boxes in a gas station out in the desert somewhere. I remember lots and lots of pictures of minty FF48's and other 1966 Marvels. We all went nuts. He did sell a bunch on eBay, like others I bid on several and lost every time. I also remember he got crazy and had blow-ups with a few boardies, I believe he made some threats or something. Is that thread too old to find?

Wow...so much fun looking through all these, thanks for taking the time to upload all the pics! Just curious, why so many multiples on some issues?

A significant piece of comic book history is saved...

Loved it back in the 80's when it was the "eBay" of the time. Sold most of my original collection with a series of ads when I was a sophomore in college...actually have a copy of the last ad I placed, and a pic of that issue of Comic Buyers Guide! -

Hilarious. He's also listed it twice, with two different BIN prices But for more entertainment, check out his other listings at bargain prices...including a painting with a BIN of $1.5 million that he claims was the inspiration for the Disney "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride. Here's an awesome quote from the listing: " I have studied Thurl Ravens face from this I’ve determined that he was the model for this first Captain Jack Painting! He was also used as a model in the talking head in the Haunted Mansion which was verified by a him admitting this on a Disney movie video! This is a one of a kind theme park prop painting of what i " "believed" to be the first "Captain jack Sparrow" titled " Captain one eyed Jack" what appears to be from the first Disneyland 1967 Pirates of the Caribbean ride!, -

Whats the trick to taking good photos of slabbed books?
Inhuman Fiend replied to Westy Steve's topic in Comics General
Agreed, I take all mine with my camera phone in bright light with flash on, angled so reflection/glare is minimal. I lay them on white paper on kitchen counter, and take them standing on a kitchen stool. The height helps to deflect the glare and then I just zoom in and crop them with photo editor. They come out pretty good... -
Make sure you check SOLD completed auctions, all completed auctions includes every overpriced book that didn't sell.

Glad it worked out for you, congrats! I don't check CL that often, but here in Orlando I've been checking periodically for years and have NEVER seen anything of any value like that....the vast majority of comic-related ads are tons of "I BUY COMICS" solicitations. The only stuff for sale is overpriced drek or dirt common $1-5 books. I think if anything of value that wasn't dramatically overpriced ever showed up on Orlando CL they'd have 100 emails and phone calls in seconds....

Apologies if this has been posted or discussed elsewhere: Very impressive complete Spider-Man collection on eBay including AF15, ASM #1-700 and all associated titles plus several other key issues not related to Spidey. Anybody know who this belongs to? I wonder if the $250K asking price is even close to reasonable...looks like the AF15 has some resto. Check it out... http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-Most-Incredible-Spidey-Collection-AF15-Six-Titles-Complete-95-NM/162576869364?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

American Pickers: Superman #9 and Amazing Fantasy #15
Inhuman Fiend replied to elibowman's topic in Comics General
Just watched the episode online...very cool. But I wonder why they didn't have any interest in the Spider-Man #1 that was visible under the AF 15? Would probably be worth the trip for another collector to pay that guy a visit in Alabama, heck if they were (at first) willing to sell the AF 15 for $10K, who knows what else he has that he's willing to part with at a fraction of market value! -
Daredevil #158 in 1979, I was 13 when it came out. Actually originally bought just one...but after taking it home and reading it, I actually had the only real investment foresight I ever had as a kid and went back to Hooks Drugs in Indianapolis and bought 3 more. I guess the Miller artwork really did it for me. So I sold and traded them at a convention about 2 years later...I think I got $30 for one of them which was a FORTUNE at the time for a new book, Miller was just red-hot at the time. On the flip side, buying multiple of every #1 that came out from 1979 through about 1984 was a complete waste of money. Well, except for the Wolverine Limited #1

Yes I did check it out and agree not everyone wants slabs, but at $75 to me that's still way overpriced unless it's a strict VF or better. Hey if whomever bought that book is happy that's all that matters. However I've always enjoyed looking at this thread for big-time eBay steals. For example, I remember a few years ago somebody on the old eBay community comic boards took a chance on a poorly described Fantastic Four #1 auction with a postage-stamp sized blurry picture and ended up with a solid 3.0 copy for $500! -

I vividly remember reading a comic featuring Superman when I was around 8 (this would be 1973-74) that came out around the holidays. I can't remember the details of the plot except that it featured a bunch of shabby, poor kids who were begging on the street. Superman helped them somehow but the close-up panel of the dirty, poor kids dressed in rags brought tears to my eyes to the point that I actually covered up the panel with coins out of my piggy bank because it made me so sad! It really got to me...wish I could recall what title/issue it was to track it down for (sad) nostalgia sake, I'm thinking maybe it was some kind of Holiday Special since I remember a Christmas theme!?
