Thanks for your input everyone. I did message the bidder and he responded saying he wasn't sure how the bidding works and why the bids were so low for an expensive book. Just a clueless newbie!

No more bids today but I think I may just do that to see if he's legit...or was just drunk

Oh I have no qualms doing business with a zero-feedback bidder, I've sold plenty of books to new ebayers and I agree we all have to start somewhere. It's just that placing so many bids in small increments...on the first day of a 7-day auction...sends up red flags to other potential bidders.

New eBayer placing a ton of bids on my auction...what to do? So I listed an auction last night on the Bay, and a new member has already placed 19 bids! No clue who this person is, but it definitely looks suspicious and I'm concerned other bidders may shy away because it looks like a classic shiller. I know it's common for new members to not really understand how eBay works, and I don't really think anything funny is going on (what good would it do them?)...BUT, I'm considering blocking them simply because I know personally I tend to stay away from auctions that have zero or low-feedback bidders placing a ton of bids with only small incremental increases. Thoughts on this...should I block them or just let it ride?

It could definitely affect grading...my eyesight on small, close-up details has rapidly declined the last few years. I don't need glasses...except for reading small print...but I do recognize that I need readers to accurately grade comics and have been using them for awhile now to make sure I don't miss anything. Most people are stubborn/reluctant to admit they need reading glasses and hate wearing them...myself included. But when I noticed how much difference it makes in noticing small details, I bought a few cheap pairs at the grocery store and now keep some in my comic room

I spend a ton of money on eBay and NEVER get these emails...I think they are targeted towards people who do NOT spend much or only buy occasionally, to try and get those fringe/infrequent folks back spending.

Wow, beautiful copies. Even factoring in the fees and the occasional difficult buyer, eBay is still your best bet

I picked these up at a garage sale this morning, nice little seven issue run! Atom & Hawkman 39-45 - from the same litter too, looks like. Brothers! But seriously, take a look at the quality! Garage sale! Wow...incredible condition for a garage sale!!

That's hilarious...might be the worst auction photos ever. Luckily the description is incredibly helpful and well written! "Excellent condition. From my veiw but I'm not an expert on Como books. Theirs now damage to the pages , no rips.. All the pages ate still readable. And attached"

That's awesome...I think it would be amusing to have a thread in CG with the most worthless slabs offered for sale. I see stuff all the time that just baffles me...tons of dirt common bronze and silver books offered for sale in low to mid grade that aren't even worth a fraction of the slabbing fees. You can even include the hilarious random non-slabbed listings with super high starting bids/BINs for beat-up worthless drek. Maybe it could be titled "What's NOT heating up on eBay"

Thanks much guys, the single staple has me scratching my head a little bit but I've seen that happen with every publisher from time to time.

Guys I don't collect and have never really dealt with TMNT at all but some folks in Comics General pointed me in the direction of this thread. So, I recently picked up what I THINK is a first print copy of #2 with signatures by both creators on the inside cover. From my research it does look like this is a first print and the sigs APPEAR authentic, but I'd like more experienced collectors to take a look. Also, it only has one staple...looks to be a manufacturing defect as there are no other staple holes. Is this common or a red flag? Anybody who knows more about TMNT than me (which is probably anyone, )...please take a look at the pics and let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Wow. Kinda puts our hobby in perspective, doesn't it? I mean, it's obvious, I know, but this stuff isn't really "worth" anything in purely utilitarian terms...unless we need to make a bed out of our comics, wipe our arse with them, or burn them for heat. Despite our (frequent) differences of opinion, we are all very blessed to be able to enjoy both the leisure to pursue a pastime, and the pleasure it gives us... So very true, well said!

One of my all-time favorites as well...fantastic Byrne art and Shooter story. I still pull it out and reread every couple of years

1976. Down at the 7-11! Good times. I love that you saved the original. And those pin-ups are sick. Totally agree...just awesome. I remember searching for them in the drugstores as a kid and being so incredibly thrilled and excited on the rare occasions I actually found them.

Why would people complain that my price for a book at $250 including shipping was too high? Ask me repeatedly for a discount, I refuse because I feel that it is a fair price. Someone else lists the same book in grade at auction and it climbs past $300 without shipping included. I reprice my book at $300, the same person emails me asking for the book at $250. I decline and a couple of days later the book sells at the new price of $300 shipped to someone else. I get a message again that I have basically ruined their childhood. I do not think it is eBay. I think it is some people. Agreed. Like anywhere, there are lots of folks buying and selling on eBay that either need to be on medication or just aren't taking it. Years ago before eBay hid all the ID's of auction bidders, I won an inexpensive auction for a common book (in the $15 range) with a last-minute snipe. The underbidder contacted me and called me a bunch of names for "unfair bidding practices"

What a scumbag, hope he gets bent over a LOT in prison. But holy ...I had never heard of any of this and somehow missed all the previous threads. I just read through all this tonight, and when I saw that he had sold on eBay I searched for his name in my email records and found that I bought some books from him in June of 2010, a few months before the crime occurred! They were vastly overgraded and I returned them for a refund, but I wonder who he had stolen them from?

Trust me, he's talked to all the best people about the size of Swamp Thing's hands, and everybody agrees, they're yuge. His hands are the greatest hands, and they're going to do great things. Just watch. You're going to get tired of how many great things those hands do.

Love threads like these...I used to have many fantastic scores but I don't have time to scour eBay nearly as much nowadays. And Andy...as always...you remain The King of eBay bargains...wow!

It does happen a lot...on probably half the books I get back. You can usually remove them by taking a backing board and carefully pushing it corner first into the gap on the sides of the case and maneuvering it around until it smooths out the bubbles.
