  1. Can you see the colors now? Inside shot: Back cover - and you thought Chunk's 1st app was in the Goonies: CFD #12:
  2. I also took a few pics of some random things. Here's 1-shot that doesn't show up often. Besides the shadow on the right side it's a beautiful looking comic. Love the plane fighting the opium smugglers! This is another example of what I usually end up getting. Great Comics #1, great eye appeal, just a chunk out of the back that doesn't bother me (especially because I got it for $50): Random recent purchases: Love this cover! GCG 5.5 too:
  3. I'm going to see if I can get these pics a bit larger, but in the meantime... Part 1: Part 2: Most of these are pretty sharp copies. All mid-grades but display very well. I was psyched to get a copy of the #12 a few months ago. The #8 is usually a tough book to get not chewed up. I'm still hunting a 1, 2, 4, and 7 at a decent price. They'll turn up!
  4. I'll start doing that soon. I've been meaning to hook up my scanner, otherwise I can always take pics quickly with my cel. I've been thinking of getting a few group shots where I have a bunch of issues of a title. For example, all my CONTACT COMICS in one shot, all my STARTLING TERROR TALES in 1 shot, etc...
  5. That's awesome - thanks! I haven't picked that one up yet but I have a good reason to now. I've picked up a bunch of Cole books recently, but here is the latest: YOUNG KING COLE Vol 3 No 11. I hadn't seen this one until recently and found one at a decent price from the UK. I believe Cole did the interior story that goes along w/ the cover. It's hard to tell from the pic but the cover gloss is really nice. I also grabbed a CRIME FIGHTING DETECTIVE #17 from the same seller. Only a VG copy, but it was worth it. Other semi-recent purchases: - Terrors of the Jungle 17, VG - White Rider & Super Horse #5, VG - TRUE-TO-LIFE ROMANCES #16, FN - SHOCKING MYSTERY CASES # 58 G/VG - THE OUTLAWS#14 VG/FN 5.0 - CONFESSIONS OF LOVE #12, GD - BLUE BOLT #120 VG- 3.5 - THE OUTLAWS#10 VG/FN 5.0 I'm not sure how many LB Cole covers I have now, but just recently I filled up a small box with only golden age stuff, and LB Cole covers are at least 90% of it! I'm now overflowing!
  6. Great books guys! I just got this one, and can't wait for it to get here! Not a pristine copy, but it'll be MY copy! I now almost have the entire Startling Terror Tales run. Only 3 more to go, 2 are easy to find and another I actually had but when it arrived the tool of a seller didn't put it in a bag and ruined it. I also threw this one in my basket as well...
  7. Always LOVED that Atomic War #1!!! Nice one!
  8. Thanks man. The whole run was up on ebay and I was pissed I lost out on the 1 & 7 too. I'll get 'em tho! Plus, I'm really happy about getting the 8 in that shape (hard to get!) and a 12 in ANY shape!
  9. Great book! I own the cover proof! Otherwise, great books guys. I just can't throw down for your high grade copies. However, I did manage to grab these 2 lately, and I've actually picked up 10-12 since the new year, but these 2 are newest:
  10. I'm an LB Cole fan, and these 2 while not in pristine condition, are grails to me. I'm now got over 1/2 this run and will close it out someday:
  11. Do you guys know about this blog? http://colescomics.blogspot.com/2010/12/comet-jack-coles-forgotten-first.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ColesComics+(Cole%27s+Comics) I apologize if it's already been mentioned, I didn't go through every page of the thread.
  12. I've often wondered about that cover too. Cole didn't sign his credited Dell covers though. He's also credited with the Tailspin cover (just grabbed off the boards WOOHOO!) and that's not signed but certainly looks like his work. He also did covers for a few issues of THE WORLD AROUND US: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=190488070111&si=UgqNrrKpfRVEbGk271l8SPecsmk%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT that I don't see sigs on, but I guess they are his too. And on a side not I'm sitting next to a copy of BLUE BOLT V9 #9. GREAT lumberyard cover! Scored it for $21 off the bay. I'm really into those covers right now. I may try to get a few more of them soon!
  13. Thank you! I wonder if there's a process for questioning Overstreet on this... So, I sent an email to the people at Overstreet and I just got a reply: Jamie, I looked at the Patches cover and some of Cole's romance covers on the Heritage Auction site and I see a similarity in style. The notation has been in the Guide since the 13th edition (1983), and back then Bob Overstreet was in contact with Cole (he did the cover for the 11th edition.) I don't know if Bob got the information directly from Cole, but it's likely. Thanks for your question. Mark Huesman - Creative Director
  14. Question: Has anyone had any experience with: www.mycomicshop.com [Lone Star Comics] I've been watching a few of their auction listings on ebay for a few months and they seem WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY overpriced. Any input???
  15. Thank you! I wonder if there's a process for questioning Overstreet on this...
  16. Here's a question... This is up on ebay now. It's listed as being a LB Cole cover in the listing and in Overstreet. However, it really doen't look like one of his, and it's not even signed (as far as I can see). I know he did the awesome cover to #1 of this series, but IS THIS REALLY A LB COLE COVER?
  17. Yup, and WOW! Double cover!!! I just love that cover. The perspective is unique, and just that hand in the upper left totally makes it. Throw in a little skull on the elephant and BAM! Instant classic!
  18. Awesome books as usual, Jeff. This cover is more than suggestive - Especially the elephant's trunk With the direction she's throwing the knife, that would make this a classic circumcision cover. HA! Great copy. I have a cheap one, myself. Only 1 staple, but she's a beaute! After seeing this cover, i had to have it. The other JUMBO I want now is a #98!
  19. Yeah, I really wanted one of the peacock paintings. I was only $120, then I bit it up to $400 and called it quits. I really hope there is some more of his stuff out there...
  20. Oh, I also picked this up a few weeks ago. I'd been hunting it for a while now, and the colors are 10x better than this pic: And this a day or 2 after that. It's a tad beaten, but a solid VG:
  21. Did anyone get anything from the Estate Sale? I tried like hell to get a painting or a cover re-creation, but constantly got outbid. Seriously, I felt like it was me vs. 1 other person on over a dozen listings. I drove up the price of 1 item from $350 to $700 before I gave up. I did end up with 2 cover proofs. 1 romance and 1 war cover. Captain Aero #23: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=373623 Top Love Stories #7: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=373284 Some of the cover proofs went through the roof too. Worth looking at the listings.
