  1. From funny animals to just a holiday theme! Merry Christmas in March all! Holiday Comics #1 - Mentioned before, here's the cover that was re-used above. Much cooler in color! Mostly spine and back cover issues on this one with some tape at the bottom, but she sure is purty! Cole drew one heck of a Santa! Holiday Comics #5 - Of all the Christmas covers, in my opinion this one takes the cake! The snow, the purple houses, the spine art, the presents, and he drew all 8 reindeer! Oh, and even a full moon on Christmas Eve! I really thought it had a shot at a high grade, but some finger bends kept it down. Holiday Comics #8 - Almost tame as compared to the #5 but still cool! Only 8 on the census, a bit of staining and scuffing kept it down. These were the best of the Holiday run I had, eventually I'll get to the others.
  2. But wait - there's more! And of course yet another genre that Cole did! I promised to finally send in some funny animal books and because I know you all recall every word of mine and would call me out on it (j/k!) I made good on my promise! Frisky Animals #52 - I got this one right, and what a cover it is! Cole went nuts on his Christmas covers, especially here. The border, the candy cane logo, even the nametags in the stockings. And a bonus back cover, re-used from Holiday Comics #1 (just ignore the long division in pencil)! Only 8 on the census. Frisky Fables #39 - Only 2 Cole covers in this run and the first one is all about Halloween and pumpkins! I really wanted a solid copy of this one, and while not perfect worked just fine for me. Another moon cover too - not just for romance anymore! Only 7 on the census, 1 qualified. Frisky Fables #40 - I recall this one taking a while, and I think it came from the UK. I think it could have used a press, but that's not my thing. Only the 5th on the census, and a cool different x-mas cover too!
  3. All Famous Police Cases #11 - Speaking of that title, here's the 1 issue of that run I sent in. I try to send books in lots, like the Crime Cases above, but often I'll just cherry pick out ones that are more valuable. This is one of those that keeps rising in popularity so I added it in (besides I've got 10 more issues of this run still in the que!). The key parts to this cover are mint, but the chips are just too many. I had it as a 3, so I'm happy. A fine candidate in the realm of looks pretty enough for me! Shifting gears to another of Cole's themes... WAR! Captain Aero #21 - Chips, a bit of rust, and a bit of a spine split keeps this one down. Maybe I'll upgrade some day, but I'll live with this. Now I can just get my greedy hands on a #17... (PM's welcome!!!!) Captain Aero #24 - This one makes up for the prior book. Thankfully that top chip didn't detract too much. One of the few cases I under-graded by .5 in the batch. I love Cole's planes! Cool trail lines coming from them too! NOTE: The old school more cursive signature on these books too! Love that!
  4. All Famous Crime #4 - Continuing at the beginning? Gotta love Star Pub, another one of those series that went from #10 to #4! A trippy sunset, and the lowest grade in my run. That only really bothers me because I have 2 copies of this, and they were soooo close in grade with slightly different defects and it was tough to pick which one to send in. Maybe I picked the wrong copy, but I can live with it. All Famous Crime #5 - Last issue in the run. I've been dying to send in all 5 issues of these at once, and now I've got 'em all safe and slabbed! In the next sub I'll have to continue with this "new" numbering and send in the Police Cases title. I thought maybe this was a 5.0, but I'll take this mid-grade tear-gas cover! I blame Teddy... All of these are really cool, and I have to wonder if the logo didn't take up 30% of the cover would they be more in demand. Give Cole more room to play and he'll make more magic!
  5. I just got the grades / scans in from my latest submission, and for the most part it was close to what I expected. A few were below, but that's my MO I guess. Anyway, here's the first few: All Famous Crime #8 (1st issue) - I'm happy with this! Most of my crime books are around this grade. Gotta love the building colors and the pink car! Not bad for a black cover! All Famous Crime #9 - This was the 1 big disappointment of the lot, with "color touch on cover." Ugh. I didn't know about it, just like all the others that have come back with the dreaded PLOD. Otherwise I had it as a 6. All Famous Crime #10 - For some reason this one (and 1 more) didn't register when I went to enter them in the registry but I'm sure that'll get fixed. In the meantime I've still got this sweet 6.0 on it's way!
  6. One more for the road! I know this is a borderline issue, but I'm never 100% sure where the SA ends and the BA starts. I thought it was a bit later with #121 or #129, but maybe it's right here. Here we go... ASM #101 - A really sharp copy I'm THRILLED about! I bought this one at a con I traveled to in White Plains, NY when I was in college. I'm pretty sure I got a nice run between 101 and maybe 110 from the same dealer that all looked to be in from the same collection and all were very nice. I was trying not to over-grade it at a 7.5, but really thought an 8.0 / WP was possible. I'll take this!
  7. ASM #43 - I thought this could get a 6.0, but it fell just short. Not bad for the 1st full MJ! I'm pretty sure it cost me $10 at a LCS as a wall book. ASM #50 - A biggie! I shopped around a lot for this one back when (25-30 years ago?). I thought it may have an outside shot at a 6.0, but again no dice. I've never pressed any of my books, but I have a feeling that if I had this would have gotten a nice bump. A really sharp copy that I'm quite proud of!
  8. Finally got a few grades back from my recent submission. Most in the lot were LB Cole covers that I'll be posting in the GA forum, but I'm also in the process of grading my ASM's so I sent in 5 of those. Here's what's on it's way back home! ASM #25 - I thought this one could have been higher, but a few interior issues brought it down. ASM #31 - I knew that chew on the spike would hurt. I may upgrade this issue...
  9. Vess is amazing. Nice guy too! I was lucky to meet him 30 years ago and got him to sign my Web Of #1. I've often used this image as a desktop:
  10. The chase for all things Hobgoblin continues! The first one really only has a mention of my man on the cover. I wasn't sure about picking this one up but it's a SS and I got a decent deal on it. But this one I've been dying to get my hands on! Only 95 total in 9.8 so less than most of this time period. Only the 2nd Jack O'Lantern cover (3rd if you count 252 where he is fuzzed out). Plus it's a SS book, only 3 of those! Only a few more to go in the pre-300's for me!
  11. Sorry... I got a bit mixed up - I meant Terrors of the Jungle #17. Too much terror....
  12. Overall the Cole books did pretty good! That STT #17 took the cake though. WoW! The Mask #1 in 3.0 ended at $12.5 which is pretty much on point where that book / grade has been. The STT #5 continues to be a hot book at $7.3 for a 7.5.The Suspense #7 in 7.0 got $12.2. I don't have comparative prices for the Spook 6.0's but they seemed to do well. It'll be interesting to see what the All-Famous Police #11 does tonight!
  13. Me too. #17 has a LOT going on, but the colors on #18 are just too awesome. Also there's a Terrors #5 in 8.0 up on CC, but there's just a stock image. That one often gets cut off on either the left or right so I'd like to see what it looks like. No, it's not as cool as the others in the run mentioned, but it ain't bad!
  14. I actually thought that would go a bit higher. Maybe people are saving their pennies for the Terrors #18 8.0 that's on CC after what the #17 got tonight!
  15. DARN! Better luck next time. Some other Cole books did VERY well tonight.
  16. Nice sig on that one. Reminds me on Manolo in Scarface who wanted his name on women's jeans...
  17. Just went through the issue on the digital museum, no puppets. Mr. Nobody was kind of like a background "I know what's going on" character as things unfolded. So it also speaks to our "host" in the series. LB Cole sig on this page: https://digitalcomicmuseum.com/preview/index.php?did=17321&page=11
  18. Um.... what exactly is goin on with that central character's mid-region???
  19. At first I was just noticing the image, the line work, the babe.... but hold on one minute... I've seen the dozens of weight loss / gain freaky ads of the GA, but I don't think EVER on the cover. And did this really work: "Calling All Fat Girls!"
  20. The whole Suspense run is either crime / horror, but I'll go with this being the most crime-like:
