  1. Jimbo your right, I don't think I can recall when I've seen a #5 CGC 9.4 even for sale in the last 5 years? White pages, what a beautiful book. Considering the CC #5 went for $48,000 just recently, maybe $20,000 isn't too hard to imagine. I use to think high grade #2's were hard to find but there have been a lot of copies that have changed hands over the last year. $35,000 for the #12 CGC 9.4 and $10,000 for the CGC 9.0 copy. I tell you if I owned that 9.0 I would be very tempted to try a resub for a 9.2 and double my money.

FF 12 is such a classic book....people make fun of me over my high predictions, but I thought the FF 12 (9.4) went cheaply....I figured 40 K. You're right about FF 2, I think every highgrade copy has changed hands recently.....I'm ready to see what an FF 3 in 9.4 would do....I bet it would hit a serious record. I doubt Doug will sell his anytime soon. GOD BLESS...

  2. I was blown away by the 20K it took to win the FF6... didnt see that coming!

Surprised me too.....but I can't remember the last time I saw a 9.4 change hands. I was expecting 12....maybe 15. These first year FF's are just so much more scarce than almost any of the other Marvels. If it's got the 12 cent price in a circle, and you want high grade you need deep pockets....but I'm preaching to the choir here. When it was stalled at 7700 I thought it might be the steal of the auction....I should know by now lol GOD BLESS...

  3. is anyone bidding on the FF1s on Comiclink? there appears to be some great deals right now. There is only 3 hours left and the 6.5 is only 6,800!! The 6.0 is at 5,300 and the 5.0 is only 3130!!! :o Who knows whats going to happen at the end of the auction, but This might be the time to buy for those that are looking!! Might be able to get them under GPA...

I bid on the trimmed 5.0, but it left me in the dust. It's a sharp copy and the trimming is minor.....wouldn't have minded getting it.GOD BLESS...

P.S. That 9.4 FF 6 is a REAL toughie in that grade....someone will be lucky to get it....whatever it sells for.

    :gossip:

I still have my 5.0 NOT trimmed for sale

    Steve

I wish I could afford it.....as much as I love the FF, I never owned a # 1.I was kind of hoping the restored book would go for around $ 1000 since it was trimmed. I really am starting to see some regular acceptance of resto books at half guide. I want a copy I can afford but can be deslabbed for mylar.....nothing that would fall apart. How much is your 5.0 ? Did you pick up anything in the auction? GOD BLESS...

  5. (shrug)Not following you sir...
We're hoping you were the one who pulled the trigger on the FF 8...9.0 on Comiclink....probably one of the toughest FF's in 9.0 or higher.GOD BLESS...-jimbo(a fried of jesus) (thumbs uP.S. It sold for $ 3500....about 50 % higher than the surrounding issues in similar grade. It really should be broken out in Overstreet...as should 16,36,39,and 57.Those usually sell for more than the rest in their respective groupings.
    Got one.... :banana:On the way!

What did you end up with, 9.0 or 9.2 ? Congrats. The last two toughies will be the 1 and 3....haven't seen 9.0's of them in a LONG time.GOD BLESS...

-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

9.0 jimbo with an old label to boot!

    Steve

I'm looking forward to seeing it.....it's one of my favorites. The best I could afford is this 7.0 :cloud9: from Doug who got it from a British board member who got it from Harley Yee at a London show years ago. It's not the 8.5 that I usually wait for...but the color strike is dumbfounding.GOD BLESS...

And yes, those Heritage prices were eye popping indeed:

ST #114 9.4 ow-w= $5377. $1300 more than the last copy that sold on Pedigree.

ST #117 9.4 ow-w= $2270. This one looked like the "bargain" of the lot!!

ST #131 9.4 w= $2868. The one you mentioned + going for triple FMV!! :o

ST #135 9.4 ow= $5377. I know there's tons of hype around Nick Fury + future films, but C'MON!!! Glad I picked up my copy for less than a quarter of this :cloud9:

They are going for that much ? :o I am going through my boxes of ST as we speak......

A question....Overstreet doesn't list it, what is the first appearance of Dormammu ? iI had always remembered him as a classic Dr. Strange foe and was surprised to see no listing. GOD BLESS...

  9. OH!

Nope got to it to late.....that is a pretty damm good price for the seller though!

Blazing Bob had a 9.2 a few years back..... sold QUICKLY.....haven't seen a 9.0 or 9.4 sell in a LONG time. Last 9.0 was the Pacific Coast copy several years ago at $2500.which was a flip from a purchase of $1900. GOD BLESS...

  11. I remember getting it off the rack....man I loved Kirby FF's.....I was totally bummed when he left Marvel....I'd rather have been dumped by a girl than to see the King leave Marvel. He did leave us some nice annuals....I loved them all. I really liked the Rogue's gallery from 1 and 2....when they were reprinted in Annual 8, that's what really jump started me to collect back issues...it kind of gave me a shopping list.GOD BLESS...

-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  12. Annual 6 was a favorite.....I was kind of young when it came out and my mom was pregnant with my sister the same time Sue was pregnant with Franklin...it kind of put a cool spin on it.I was always surprised it wasn't more hot as keys are concerned...especially with the first appearance of Anihillus.GOD BLESS...

  13. Cartoonist's Calamity is one of the best, for sure.Everetts's titles always impressed me too.As far as his women go....ironically,that was what first attracted me to his work. It was the early 70's when he was doing his final run on Sub-mariner.I had the hots for Namorita...who was about my age at the time :cloud9: .I also have to place "The Stone Men" , also from # 17,at the top of the list....love those detailed renditions of landmarks around the world. That Lorna you posted is incredible.....how do you turn up these Ubercopies of these books that never turn up in HG ? GOD BLESS...

  14. This past week, I finally broke down and ordered Michelle Nolan's book. So far, so good. It's refreshing to see someone took the time to review the entire field of Romance, starting with some of the Teen precursors to the full blown Romance stories.

    Here's the cover -

I've got this too, interesting read! One thing I wish was that there was more time spent on scarcity of various issues.

If anyone would know scarcity, it's Michelle Nolan. She's one of my heroes....I really miss her articles in CBM. In a way, these boards kind of became the new CBM. I wish Michelle would post here.GOD BLESS...

  15. Thanks guys.I don't know about anyone else...but to me, Everett's style really seemed to kick into high gear during the 1952-1953 period. You could see that the horror genre really suited him. It looks like he took a major evolution in his approach during those two years. This Venus 18 might be one of my favorite comics ever.It will hopefully be one of the last books to go when I hit the time to sell my favorite books. I always wondered if the last 3 issues of the run (which seem to be in a class by themselves) were the result of Bill and Stan deciding that Venus didn't have to be romantic fantasy anymore. He was obviously having quite a blast when he did these last few.GOD BLESS...

Here's the interior scans I promised.I think I would have to say that as far as the interiors go....I think 18 is the best of the run with 17 a CLOSE second and #19 in third.Any other opinions ? GOD BLESS..

That's a gorgeous book, Jim. The guys in green are intense. I admire Everett more every time I see one of his pre-code horror covers.

I'm going to post some scans of the interiors in the "undead thread" in the GA section later this weekend.GOD BLESS...
