Okay so I'm a little insta-dumb, if someone could help me . . . Is there a way to search for comics for sale in your area or country? Living in Canada (Alberta) means that shipping can be really high sometimes even just for a couple comics. For example on ebay, I usually limit my searches to within Canada as the shipping is usually just killer. Also, I'd like to look into selling comics on instagram. Is there a particular seller that you guys think does it the best that I could follow and watch what he does? Thanks!

Post your Garage Sale/Flea Market/Antique Mall Finds Here
Shawnismaximus replied to Shark's topic in Comics General
Wow. That was super nice of the other comic guy to hand you those! Also I love the classic forgetful garage sale guy with comics under the table. I was at a garage sale last year and asked if they had any comics and the lady was like "oh yeah, we got a box full in the basement I'll go grab them." It turns out they had a ton of comics from the 50's-70's for sale at a previous garage sale, and someone had come and bought everything from the 50's/60's or anything with a super-hero on the cover for ten cents each. They were originally asking $.50 each but the guy convinced them they weren't worth that much. They realized afterwards that they were in fact worth some money and did a bit of research on the ones left. Anyways long story short, she sold the remaining comics to me for a good price. She was one of those rare people that realize they shouldn't expect to sell it for what it sells for on ebay. But I never would have known about them if I hadn't asked. Now I ask at most garage sales. If the people are friendly and talkative at least. -
When I was really little I grew up reading my uncles old comics that were a mix of 80s DC & Marvel. I liked the characters in the Marvel comics (particularly Spider-man) more. So once I was old enough to realize there was a distinction between DC and Marvel Comics I would stick to Marvel except for the odd DC comic that caught my eye. Any of the DC comics I did read, (Superman in particular) were always so boring. Honestly I still lean heavily towards Marvel, but I am more open to DC now and understand what people like about them. I even read the odd one from time to time. Snyders Batman is great, and I really dug the first 10 or so issues of the New 52 Flash but then I got bored of it.

I would also be curious to what you boardies think about NM 98. Has it peaked? I've been debating wether I should sell my NM 98 & 87 or hang onto them.

Free Healthcare. USA's murder rate is 2.43 times our own. Tuition fees are way way cheaper. Poutine. No Trump. Plus I personally live right beside the rocky mountains. An hours drive to Waterton (see photo below).

Yeah we only skied one day and stayed at a cheap airbnb for 3 nights but it still becomes quite expensive with the exchange rate. Think of it like this: if I was to buy a comic off ebay for $10,000 USD in 2014 when the exchange rate was at par, that comic would cost me $10,000 CAD. But now, 4 years later at todays current exchange that same comic would cost me $12,850 CAD. Add in taxes/duty and you can see how it's rough for us Canadians. It's as though in the past 4 years everything from the United States costs 1.28 times what it used to (plus inflation). Here's a article explaining the used auto prices better then I ever could: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/cars-trucks-canadian-dollar-low-americans-ford-1.3453299

We complain because we remember the recent good period for the Canadian Dollar (2010-2014) when we were about par. Now any goods coming from the states are much more expensive, and doing any sort of travelling in the states really hurts the ol' wallet. (I just got back from a ski trip in Whitefish . . . ouch). A bit off topic but it also really sucks for the used auto industry in Canada right now too. I'm in the market to buy a used car, but all of the dealerships in my area are shipping vehicles on the regular down to the states, where they get more money from them due to the exchange rate, which leaves slim pickings here.

What does that cost if you don't mind me asking? I live about an hour away from the Alberta/Montana border.

I have nothing to add other then as a Canadian I feel your pain. Even on the buy/sell section of this site some people won't ship to Canada or tack on an additional $20 for shipping. Add in the exchange and you're extra boned. I wish there was a site (besides ebay) ust for Canadian sellers & buyers.

The death of the run collector? I'm not so sure...
Shawnismaximus replied to FineCollector's topic in Comics General
I collect runs. Kind of. I just collect characters that interest me and books that I think are well priced. I'm the guy at the comic convention digging through the dollar bins, who then asks about the low grade key issue that's a good price (I recently bought a really beat up ASM #3 for $80, and fairly beat up Daredevil #3 & 4 for $30 each.). I have a list on my phone of what I already have so I don't double-buy any issues. At a recent convention I pulled like 30 Daredevil comics out of this guys dollar bin. They were all late 80's stuff in NM 9.0+ shape for a buck each. No keys, no Frank Miller. The dealer seemed surprised I wanted them all. In retrospect I guess I should have tried to haggle. -

Liquidated them to a landfill!? That hurts. That really hurts. You would think they would have offered you or someone else who was buying them to buy the rest for a bulk price. Still, that sounds pretty good score. I've had a few decent scores over the years but nothing like this. I missed out on a pretty good one when I was 12 or so. I was big into Spider-man and called up a guy who was selling some comics in the paper. I go to his house and this guy has boxes and boxes of unsorted 60s DC and 70s-80s Marvel. He was asking a buck a piece. I managed to get quite a few Spectacular Spider-man comics (including #1). He didn't have any Amazing Spider-man. I passed over so much Silver Age DC looking for Spider-man comics haha. Luckily my mom suggested I should grab a couple of the 60's comics as they might be worth something. I grabbed like 10 Superboy comics because he seemed more interesting then Superman. (D'oh!). I went to the comic book store the next day and got an Overstreet Price Guide and looked into the value of some of the comics I passed over. Surprised at what they were worth I called the guy back that day to find that someone came and bought everything from him after I was there.
