  1. The cover has some weird scanner lines on it, you can't see those in real life. But it does have the blemish you can see on the right side of the page. probably my finger lifted some ink while reading it?
  2. Pretty rough around the ol' spine. Curious as to what you guys think grade-wise.
  3. Bump. (can we bump here? I'm just afraid it's gonna drop off the first page with nobody grading it).
  4. Wow. I've had dreams where this happens! Congratulations, I hope you get some good coin for it.
  5. Wow. That's incredible. What did you pay for the box? Did you know immediately when you saw this comic that you struck gold or did it take some reasearch for you to realize?
  6. corners a bit beat up. interior pages are bright white and look fantastic. I feel like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person, I got greasy fingerprints all over this while scanning. anyone have an suggestions for getting rid of fingerprints? They are really noticable on the black.
  7. Corners rounded a bit. Some small marks on spine as you can see in scan. Not sure what the correct term for that is.
  8. Some marks by staples. Corners are a bit rounded.
  9. Thanks to this app I recognized Superman Adventures 5 (first appearance of Livewire) and was able to buy it on the cheap from some guy. I came to look at a comic collection. This guy had no idea what he had, he got them in the will when his cousin died and had no interest in reading them. He lives a half hour away and wouldn't give me an estimate of what price range he was selling them for or give me any photos so I went into this thing blind. I get there and they were 90s-early 2000s comics that weren't bagged and boarded and they were stored in old wine boxes. Most were in decent shape though. While I was looking through them the seller mentioned that someone had already came, picked out a box of stuff from him and bought it. Sure enough it was pretty picked over. I told him he shouldn't do that as people will just pick out the best comics and leave him with the drek. I gave the guy what I would consider to be a pretty good offer for the collection, to which he seemed offended. He wouldn't tell me how much he wanted, just that it was much higher then what I offered. He then offered I fill up a box and then we can talk price on that box (even though I had just told him how people take advantage in that situation). An important detail here: this guy was an total jerk. He kept yelling at his kids who were just playing and got angry at his wife when she told him to rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. He also watched over me like a hawk the whole time. It was awkward. I wasn't using the key collector app but I recognized Superman Adventures 5 from seeing it in the app before. So I decided screw it, I'm going to take the couple valuable comics I noticed, throw in some comics I want to read, and see what he prices it out at. So I throw in Superman Adventures #5, Runaways #1, along with some early X-Force, Books of Magic, some Star Wars Comics and a Hulk TPB. All in all I had about 75 comics. I offered the guy 40 bucks to which he again looks offended. He says he wants 70. I offer that he can take out some comics and bring it down to 40. He takes out the 10 Books of Magic comics and Hulk TPB. Which was fine with me, as both of those I just sort of threw in on a whim. Man that story is longwinded, sorry about that. My point is that the app is great, it helped me recognize a valuable comic and made the half hour drive to this guys house worth it. Well it would have been worth it just for Runaways #1, but it made it extra worth it.
  10. I will probably never own one. But fingers crossed I luck out one day to find one that is affordable. The problem is the price just keeps climbing.
  11. I've been considering not buying new comics at all. I only have a couple titles on my pull list and I enjoy reading them each month, but I could save a lot of money by just buying them used at conventions or off of kijiji (Canadian Craigslist). The problem would be I would likely always be a couple years behind what's currently going on in the comic and I like being able to read discussions about the comics on reddit and whatnot. I've been debating cancelling my pull list for months now but just can't seem to pull the trigger!
  12. Could you provide a link to the rack you bought? I've been looking for an affordable way to store my longboxes, and debating about switching to shortboxes as I found some storage options at IKEA but I bet this rack is a lot cheaper then the IKEA alternatives
  13. I live in a town of 100k people and its rare that i ever see garage sales advertising comics on kijiji (canadian craigslist). What i do is email every person having a garage sale and ask them if they have comics. If they say no then i know to avoid that one. I also will ask while at the garage sale if they have any for sale. Sometimes people will disappear into their basement and return with a box of them! It's rare but it happens. I've also started collecting old books that catch my eye. Books are usually sold really cheaply at garage sales (a qaurter each) and you would be surprised how old some of them are if you dig through them. Even if they end up not being valuable at least they will look good on a shelf or provide some entertainment if you were to read them.
  14. Thanks man! I saw your other post and have already downloaded it, it works great. My only wish is that it would provide the comics in more of a list view, so that you can fit way more on the screen and then just tap the comic for more info.
  15. Looks like he's posted it on kijiji (Canadian version of Craigslist) and is asking a whopping $1100. Wowza. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-comics-graphic-novels/calgary/huge-comic-book-lot/1305501753?utm_source=com.google.android.apps.docs&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttonsVIP&utm_content=app_android
  16. I wish you could vote for your top 4. That was tough!
  17. Yeah that's a good point. The fact that he knows that there are keys in the collection makes me think he bought it on the cheap, with the intention of selling the keys, but saw my ad and figured he would see if I would buy the whole lot from him for a quick turn-around profit. (Which is totally fine, I could see myself doing the same, but it just means I'm not going to find any stand out comics in there that he wasn't aware of).
  18. Thanks guys. My offer was that I would pay in the ballpark of $350 CAD ($280 USD) depending on condition of comic books and whatnot. So it sounds like I offered about what you guys are suggesting or maybe even a little more. He rejected the offer saying it was far too low and less then what he paid for the lot. I'll probably take a look at them in person still, for all I know there's a copy of New Mutants 98 and some other near mint keys in there. But it's good to know I wasn't totally off the mark in what I was offering this guy. I've had quite a few people message me wanting me to make offers on comics with blurry photos and poor descriptions. It's challenging.
  19. Hey friendo's Someone responded to an ad I have saying I will buy old collections. The person selling the comics lives in a different city then I do, but I will be travelling there in 2 weeks anyway. I haven't seen any photos of the collection, but here's what I know based on our conversation: • 2000ish comics + 1-23 of the Walking Dead graphic novels • 1980's to present • 60% Marvel/DC and 40% indie • "random mix of Batman superman some deadpool. Wolverine ect. Nothing has been pulled out as far as key books go. The majority of the books are back issue stuff. But the modern stuff is rebirth and new 52 stuff from dc." • Only roughly 20% are in bags and boards, though the rest are said to be in good shape. Obviously there's not a lot to go on here, but he wanted me to make an offer based on what I know. I gave him a bit of a lowball offer, which he rejected. I'll post my offer in a bit but I don't want to influence what you guys would say. I'm wondering if I am way off base here on the offer as I'm fairly new to buying collections like this. P.S. my intentions for the collection would be to pick out what I am interested in and sell the rest at local comic conventions. I already have a decent sized inventory of comics to sell at a convention I'm just looking to add to it.
  20. Here's my meathod. First make a stack of just boards and comics. (Alternating board, comic, board, comic ect.). Then bag them all by sliding the board and comic in at the same time. Keep doing this till you get bored and thrn go on a taping rampage.
  21. I mostly read Marvel. Spider-man and Daredevil in particular, like you say new off the racks. But over the years I've fleshed out my collections with back issues and I've always been on the lookout for older 12 cent Marvels. Of course it used to always be for personal reading, so I would go to comic-cons, personal sales, garage sales ect. and raid them of their cheap-but-in-bad-condition comics. I have a fairly good grip on Marvel comics and what silver age issues should be able to fetch (and know condition is key). Of course I'm sure there are some expensive issues that I would unknowingly thumb past. Where my knowledge is lacking would be with DC comics and other publishers and non super-hero comics. I've grabbed any cheap 60s DC super-hero comics I've found over the years, and so I have a decent idea of what the average 12 cent issue of Superboy, Batman, Superman, Flash ect. would sell for, but I need to do some research into what key issues I should be actively looking for. I managed to find a Key DC bronze age comic list on these forums a while ago that has proven useful, so I was hoping someone might help me out with a Silver Age one. Edit: I forgot to say I would be keeping some for myself, yes. Mostly any Spider-man or Daredevil issues I come across, and probably some of the 'reader' comics that are in rough shape and I wouldn't make much selling, but look like they would be a fun read.
  22. I mean I've been reading comics for the past 20 years. I have a room with around 3 thousand comics in it that I've collected/read over the years. It's only over the past 6 months though that I've really started to pay attention to comic book prices in hopes that I can find some good deals, and sell those comics to fund my comic buying habit. I'm not new to comics, I'm new to buying them with the intention of selling them.
