  1. "9" light diagonal crease left top middle back cover parts barely breaks color" "vertical creases left edge back cover does not break color" I'd suggest you look at your book under a strong light. A cell phone light held close to your book is actually very helpful. Tilt the book back and forth under the light and examine the book very very carefully. A loop or magnify glass would also help. I'd wager a drawer full of clean underwear this isn't an error and the 9 inch crease is there and it's very difficult to see because it barely breaks color. The vertical creases on left edge back cover should be pressable. Not sure how good Comic Doctor is. If you PM me I can share info on who I send my books to for pressing, he's never let me down. I know you wanted a bit better grade but looking at your before scans I would have graded this around 6.5, maybe 7.0 after clean and press, and I don't see it ever getting any higher. Still a sweet book.
  2. Agreed. It isn't just the Masks that have gone up. I've noticed prices increasing on most of the other LB Coles, Bakers, Timelys, essentially the classic covers. In the end classic covers go up.
  3. CGC Mike's solution is great but you could also just post a list of the books you want to buy and a takeit. There's no rule requiring you to quote a book you want to buy.
  4. I hope there's a Conan Rd that crosses Groo Rd so we can have an epic battle.
  5. Weird, I can't seem to find a copy. I bet someone is hoarding them...
  6. Sure, he killed himself and ultimately that was his choice. But I don't think we should ignore how our behaviour online, or for that matter in person, can affect someone. This guy's reputation is destroyed, his chosen career is over, and thousands or millions of online haters have attacked him. He may very well have felt the whole world hated him and his life was over. And I think we should also try to imagine the state of mind he was in just before he killed himself. At the point of despair that he decides to kill himself it might have seemed like the easiest way out to him but is that how we really want situations like this to resolve?
  7. Thanks @BA773 I'm a collector of foreign SA comics, think Spanish Fantastic Four from the early 160s. What do you have locally for books published for your market?
  8. Sales were pretty steady for the 2 year period 2019 and 2020 and then prices explode right at the end of 2020. I'd imagine it was the same for every SA and BA key.
  9. I decided to check. Picked Fantastic Four 48 because it's a key and it's common and selling all the time. In 6.0 it was worth an average of $1900 in Dec 2020 and Jan 2024 it was worth an average of $1700. So it's worth slightly less than before the price runup which would make sense considering prices tend to run too high and then run too low.
  10. Hey BAzz, could you start a thread about comics in Switzerland and/or Europe. I'd love to know more.
  11. A family member was sexually assaulted when she was 16, by a man at her church. She told her priest and he said she was making it up to get attention. So she told no one else. At 23 she finally went to the police. The guy actually confessed to doing it and was sentenced to 5 years in prison, SUSPENDED, if he went to treatment. Stuff like that, my friend, is why women don't come forward sooner. Happens all the time. Agreed. Some people are predators looking for someone younger and less powerful that they can take advantage of. And who won't be believed if they get the courage to reveal it. I don't know much about Ed Piskor. Is he someone unfairly persecuted by people on the internet or is a creep? We'll probably never know for sure but it's a shame it came to this.
  12. Don't have any idea what the grade is from your post. A 2.0 sold for about $1600 last year, a 6.0 sold for $4300 this year, a 9.0 sold for $33000 in 2020. Sorry, I don't know what a Kane signature would add to the value.
  13. And I'd agree. Covid spiked prices and we've now dropped back close to the long term trend line. Maybe a little lower because I suspect some of the guys who got in to flip were under water and left a lot poorer and some of those buyers are gone for good.
  14. It's usually good news when they're making posters or fridge magnets of issues you own..
  15. They go elsewhere or they adjust their prices. In reality something priced 4 times current market isn't likely to sell anywhere. I do spend time watching their feed of recently consigned books. If something is underpriced or priced reasonably the time to buy it is right when it's listed for sale.
  16. Teeth marks are too big for a mouse and too small for a polar bear.
  17. Welcome to the boards. 17,000 books is about 60 longs, you've been busy.
  18. While I agree it's a pain to go through all the over-priced consignment items it's difficult to come up with a policy to get rid of them. How much is too much? Who spends the time to determine that and what sales data do they use? And if you start using past sales data, of whatever form, to limit a consignee's listing price, you'll be restricting the market and a suddenly hot book that could sell for multiples of recent sales can't be listed. I think they've kinda got it right. Let people send in consignments and set their own prices and let the market decide. If the price is too high and a seller wants to make a sale he'll change his price. And design a policy that encourages consigners to reduce their price after a period of time.
  19. I'm in. Look out fools, I'll fight for last place until the end...
  20. I guess I follow you. If I have a bunch of worthless stuff it can't fall any further and will always be worthless. Of course all that worthless bulk takes up a ton of room and is tough to sell. A dollar over and over takes a long time to add up. And while the prices of key SA or BA or MA have generally dropped 50% the prices of many precode horror and quality GA books has doubled or more during that same time frame. For illustration here's Startling Terror Tales #11. I have a 4.5 that I thought was worth $4,000 to $5000 based on 3 to 4 year old sales of a 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and a 5.0. Then a 6.5 recently sold for $33,000, a 4.5 staples cleaned sells for almost $10,000 and a 4.0 sells for almost $11,000. And you can see the price doubled between 2020 and 2023 on the 4.0 and 4.5 staples cleaned. While I don't see any sales this year on GPA I wouldn't be surprised to see another healthy increase. Based on those sales I believe my book is worth approx $15k, 3 times what I thought it was worth a couple years ago. And while I love all eras of comics and have a fair slice of all eras in my collection I'll always consider a classic book like Startling Terror Tales #11 and it's ilk to be virtually immune to price drops. I like owning classic books that rarely come up for sale and when they do they sell almost instantly.
