  1. What crime is it to misrepresent yourself, other than the Stolen Valor Act? I'm pretty sure Larry isn't actually a cable guy. Where is your issue with him? Cultural misrepresentation- gie me a frigging break. America is a melting pot. We steal the best of everything, mix it together and repackage it as America.
  2. I am so glad I don't live in the same world as some of you people. How do you feel about Mike Peters and the Poppy Fields?
  3. Fighting a Never Ending Battle for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Sound like Supes is a Social Justice Warrior, not that there is anything wrong with that!
  4. What does he have to atone for? We celebrate Nellie Bly, who pretended to be a white man in order to get a job no one would hire a women to do. Richard Burton was a hero to generations of young boys for his daring to visit the sacred cities of Mecca and Medina by posing as a Muslim. He violated some Disney policy but if his bosses were okay with it, I'm not sure why it bothers anyone else. What I don't understand is why anyone thinks only a Japanese person can make up stories for manga? It's that kind of closed mind that puts us in these circumstances to begin with.
  5. So cultural appropriation is worse than fraud, which could be a crime in some circumstances?
  6. No, I don't want to risk having my books pawed thru by someone inspecting them, I don't want to deal with the delay and frankly- if a seller takes shortcuts like that, what else might they do.
  7. Maybe Ben can be the next John Stewert. Or even a Guy Gardner? I hated Gardner for a long time but the jerk grew on me.
  8. Where does one draw the line? Is the postal employee supposed to be able to date the books at a glance, or should they open the books so they can read the indica on the splash page. If I get a package that is media mail and it shouldn't be, I won't buy from that seller again.
  9. Maybe Ben can be the next John Stewert. Or even a Guy Gardner? I hated Gardner for a long time but the jerk grew on me.
  10. I have an idea. Lets fire this jerk and bring in a totally unqualified Japanese guy. That will even out the karmic scales and the world can go back to the peace and harmony we were enjoying before this shocking occurence. I'm still a bit confused though. He rose to be editor in chief. Was that on merit or was it not?
  11. Are you saying Dark Horse wouldn't have hired him for the job if they knew he was white? How is that okay? He violated Marvels in house policy of not letting editors write for for other sections, but if they are okay with that, who else has a say in the matter? Does one need to be a mutant to write an X-book?
  12. I made it to the second model. I'm pretty sure the first one cost a dime, and I have no idea what the rest cost but we canceled after the second one.
  13. If they don't announce it and it winds up in the hands of some kid whose mother objects to it, it can be a problem. I'd have to believe there is an audience that will buy the book just because of what it is.
  14. In the early 70s, there weren't more than twenty or so Marvel hero books a month so many people read every issue. Even in the mid-80s, there weren't more than fifty a month so I think many people still read them all. I had several people who had standing orders for every Marvel comic as they came out. It wasn't until I sold my second store and had to pay for my books that I started cutting down. I remember having a $1,000 budget for new comics my first month and trying to stretch it to cover the whole month. By the late 80s, that was my weekly bill.
  15. A stain like that knocks it way down. I'd give it a 6.0.
  16. I used to routinely read twenty-thirty comics in a day. Half a day, really. I'm pretty sure I've read almost every Marvel Superhero comic from FF 1 to sometime in the late 1980s. There might be a Strange Tales or two I missed but other than that I'm fairly confident I read the entire hero line. Not every Marvel comic, but every Marvel super-hero comic.
  17. I've always had vague memories of having a Submariner " soldier" that I played with as a kid. I never put much thought into it and figured it was some other figure that I just used as Namor, thanks to my imagination. I know I had a Britons Confederate soldier I used to pretend was Captain America so it could have been any figure or soldier from the early to mid 1960s. My Fathers brother lived in Brazil for several years in the 1960s so now I'm wondering if he might have sent some of the figures up as Christmas presents. They are long long gone, with only vague memories remaining, as I said, but this thread has brought them back to the surface and it was fun reisiting them.
