1. I have no Idea if Steve will try and get this book or not, I was just speculating seeing that is his favourite book. i'm sure that Steve will abide by auction house law, let it ride out and see what it goes for. In Years to come he could always try to acquire it on a trade, Who knows! i do know that this is his favourite book! I've spent 30 years in the hobby enjoying seeing people trying to acquire the books that they really want, and I've never wished any other collector Ill will. I know that Jon's collection is going to do very well at auction, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
2. I can tell you this Steve would not be buying this book for resale, this is his favourite comic book. He has multiple copies of this, and I remember back in the early 90s when he bought a nice copy from me, he was overjoyed! For someone to say that as a collector he can't buy his favourite comic book is ridiculous. Yes, so big deal if he wants the book he could have anyone else bid on it for him. He would not be shill bidding the book up, so he can make more money off it, he is buying it for his collection. In my opinion he deserves to get it, it's been his favourite book for the last 30 years and now the most sought after copy will be coming up for auction, So I hope he gets it. I would be happy if any other collector would get a book that they have been waiting to to acquire over a lifetime! Dwight
3. Just picked up a few Shadows a while back so I thought I'd post them. In all I kept about 35 more shadows from this collection (all in similar grade) between 1935 -1937. Even though I have the Strasser copies of most of these, I still can't resist Ultra high-grade Shadows, even duplicates or triplicates. Dwight
4. I talked with Jon on the phone for about 40 minutes today and he is completely at peace with selling his collection. He just said he feels it's the right time. As Alan said, John is not coming on the boards right now because he's busy, and he just needs a little time to process everything as he's been so busy! BTW: I can't even imagine what a Fantastic #3 will sell for. I can tell you this, no matter what, Fishler will win this book!
5. Dave is just selling some of the books that are not dear to his heart. Unless an unforeseen tragedy occurs, the Detectives, Batmans, Actions, Supermans will never surface. He even kept some of he key pulp covers out of each run that he sold. I have also seen the "Hits" and "Fantastics" before they were graded (before John had them), and the gloss and ink reflectivity on them is blinding. Yep, there might be a few individual books out there that are technically better than a couple of the Church copies, but they do not have that "look" of having the ink reflectivity so high, that it looks wet. Dwight
6. Just picked up a collection of 200 Shadows. There were a group of 55 of them that are pedigree quality, were bought of the newsstands and put away. Some of them have the collectors name written neatly on the front cover in fountain pen and stamped by the rare 1934 Shadow stamper. After doing some research, I found out that the gentleman passed away 2 years ago at age 91. He was an intelligence operative in WW2 and must have purchased the books when he was 15 or 16 years old. A great story. I am putting about 35 of the pedigree quality ones in my collection, selling the other 20+, and selling the rest of the collection (avg. grade). Below are a few issues that are going into my personal collection! The Crime Oracle - 1936 The Fate Joss - 1935 Death By Proxy - 1936 City of Crime - 1936 The Yellow Door - 1936 Brothers of Doom - 1937 City of Doom - 1936 Dwight 306-531-2211
7. My favorite Argosy cover! Just picked up this Film Fun from 1935. Looks like it came right off the newsstand. Has a slight bend/ warp but it could be flattened very easily. Great Enoch Bolles cover!! I am putting this one up for sale in the Gold/Silver selling forum! Dwight 306-531-2211
8. Just re-acquired this pulp - file copy with off-white/white pages! Dwight
9. [font:Arial Black]I picked up a little collection of books with beautiful ow-white pages. All were from the 1933-34 era. MASKED RIDER (RARE) MAY 1934 THE PHANTOM DETECTIVE - ALL THREE FROM THE FIRST YEAR - 1933 MAVERICKS - 3 OUT OF 4 IN THE RUN - EXTREMELY RARE - 1934 CONFLICT - 1934 COWBOY STORIES = 1933 [font:Arial Black]**Most will go into my collection, but a couple might be for sale**
10. Mine would be: The More Fun 54 and the 65 as my two favorites! I have owned the Larson, Nova Scotia, and a 8.5 non-pedigree of the #54. With the Church/Mile High copy of Richard's, the colors are extremely vibrant, a stunning copy of a classic cover. I have always liked these two the most. The mirror covers have always been been used in various genre's. The Shadow used a mirror cover in a similar way back in 1935, and it is a neat cover as well. The Shadow "Plot Master" from my collection (circa. 1935) Dwight
11. [font:Arial Black]Just picked up these two Spiders. [font:Arial Black]August 1934 [font:Arial Black][font:Arial Black]October 1934 [font:Arial Black]Dwight

13. Awesome Pulps, Here is the lone Amazing Stories that I kept for my collection. Dwight
14. Mostly for the Superman stuff from the collection of Franco Toscanini, and if there are a few pieces that Dave Anderson needs it for his collection. There are a few new Buyers in the hobby that are spending big money for rare Superman collectibles and premiums.
15. Here is another extremely rare Doc Savage item. The Doc Savage Cystex cardboard window sign is from 1934, and as well as the stamper, only a handful are known to exist. It directly promoted the Doc Savage Radio Show (which was sponsored by Cystex), as well as promoting the Doc Savage pulps. Dwight
16. The Doc Savage Stamper is awesome and extremely rare. I have one in my collection, and along with yours, know of only 2 others. Dwight
17. I owned the Doc Savage Medallion and original Application Form before I sold it to Matt. The Medallion and Application Form came out of the estate of someone that worked at Street and Smith. The Application Form (which features a great image of Doc) is stunning, like new, and unbelievably rare (only complete example known). The Medallion is simply...Mint. Having them both is a centerpiece of any collection! Dwight
18. [font:Arial Black]The Doc Savage Stamper is killer and extremely rare!. Put out for a short period of time by Street & Smith in 1934. Along with yours, I have one in my collection, and know of only 2 others. The Stamper, the Doc Savage Cystex sign, and the Doc Savage Medallion are the top Doc Savage collectibles. Dwight
