  1. The first movie I saw 3x and in the theatre and the same year I left for basic training ... Needless to say , it’s one of the most visceral , jingoistic and accurate portrays of combat and camaraderie displayed on film, Spielberg’s decision to use bleach bypass to subdue the colors was a wonderful touch in a film he credited as an homage to his father .Tom Hanks had one heck of a run in the 90’s. Terrence Malicks “ Thin red line “ came out later in the year and never got the same attention SPR did although it’s a powerful / nature/ philosophical take on war and these are two of my favorites . I’ll do a war film list next ... .
  2. I gotta watch Barton Fink again . As a fellow NJian - you’ll appreciate Burn After Reading’s “ gym scenes “ were filmed at the former Tower Records in Paramus
  3. Coen Brothers are one of my favorites still actively making films , my hit list being : O brother where art thou, fargo, big Lebowski ,blood simple, raising Arizona , millers crossing, true grit - and my personal fave : no country for old men
  4. Great stuff here , Ronin is largely forgotten - but a very good lower budget heist . Heat is THE standard for bank robbery movies ( “ the town “ does a great job a decade plus later ) and Leon is amazing ! Army of Darkness is awesome incarnate ... really a great list !
  5. Maybe they will rename it , “the Native American baseball player from Cleveland ?”
  6. Great list - brining back my 80’s youth ( minus “ Never ending Story “) the “Mac and Me “scene with the wheelchair and subsequent “ Mystery Science Theatre” rendition is priceless
  7. So was the egg scene ... I’m ashamed to admit I knew the sampled words from the Guns N Roses “Civil War” song Before I saw the actual Newman Film
  8. Italian giallo / horror - part of Fulci’s gates of hell trilogy - campy and obscure - but fantastically gory !
  9. Tom hardy is the man ! Loved Charlie Bronson in “White Buffalo” and the basis for the Punisher “ Death Wish”.. Boondocks pt 2 always made me nervous it would ruin The greatness of 1 ...so I avoided it
  10. I’m not the rope toting Charlie Bronson wannabe
  11. Unfortunately I can’t “ laugh 😂 at this - but I concur - and spot on 💯
  12. Love that cover , I recently sold a few of my DC / horror keys this year and that was one of them - for the most part it’s been funds to complete runs and continue with Marvel keys - but always a sought after book
  13. Wow - and I always thought that was playful pranking with him and Holland ( who roasted him good saying “ Falcon” never had a movie ) that being said ... he was the villain in 8 mile
  14. To be honest ... of ALL the announced Disney streaming series : Loki, Hawkeye , WandaVision and Falcon/ Winter soldier - I was the most excited about this - hoping they continue in the vein of The Winter Soldier film which is still probably my favorite MCU movie ... I equate it to Tom Clancy doing Marvel comics
  15. Love the post death 90’s mullet supes! It’s good to know after we die we all resemble Eastern European hockey players
  16. This movie blew my mind - no stop action and one of the best 2/1 fight scenes I’ve ever seen ... nice to know these guys have finally branched over to US films ( and a small cameo in Force Awakens )
  17. I was always more of a Van Damme guy than Seagal...
  18. My top 5 favorite action movies ... and yes I chose Road Warrior over the more obvious Lethal Weapon ...Also Predator over T2 and Conan
  19. I guess I’m more out of the loop than I thought - I only read a handful of moderns, to be honest
  20. Yeah Naked Lunch is not for the faint of heart , alot of not so subtle references - it’s almost an autobiographical account of William S Burroughs life , and Peter Weller is the man !
  21. Criterion collection ? Very tough with 1400 movies - too many sub genres to choose from - I would recommend ... a few movies that really make you think .. The Seventh Seal Onibaba Man Bites Dog If... Naked Lunch and Aguirre the Wrath of God ... and criminally NOT on Criterion last I checked these movies are odd , you have been warned -
